As we weren't able to get ahold of Chase, we stopped to check my room, which was naturally empty. Hayder remained by his car and told us that he'll leave us here, if we didn't hurry back. So I quickly choose something from my drawers to change into. A pair of jeans and a plain t-shirt was my first option, but I quickly decided against. Looking at Asher, laying casually in my bed, resting his head on one arm and observing every move I make, my hands searched another part of the closet. I took my clothes and hurried to the bathroom.
I stripped off my dress, remaining only in my lacy underwear and quickly checked myself in the mirror. I wasn't looking my best, as my body was purple in parts I didn't want to remember of, my face was still pale, even with all the effort Bee put in my make-up; I wasn't feeling beautiful. But I'm going to be, before I step back into my room. I dress with a tight pair of black, ripped jeans that were showing nicely my curves, and pair them with a low-cut red top. I bless Bee's messiness when I spot her red lipstick near the basin. I try not to mess it, as I apply it on my lips and smile proudly when I see how nicely it matches both my blouse and my hair. My curls were looser now, but I liked better the wild look they were giving me now.
I step out of the bathroom, not even looking at Asher as I walk to my vanity and drop my pearls inside one of my jewelry boxes, grabbing a ruby bracelet from it. Through the mirror of my vanity, I see Asher glancing at me with his predator eyes taking in every bit of my frame. I bit my lips to keep a giggle from escaping and I grab a pair of boots. Asher was stading at the edge of my bed and I sit next to him to tie my shoelaces. When I see his arms curling around me, I sit up and grab a black leather jacket from the hanger. I pour the contents of my clutch into a little backpack, finally turning around to meet his gaze.
"Shall I bring some sleepwear with me?" I ask him, already walking back to my dresser and scooping out my sexiest lingerie. He's just looking at me, blindfounded so I casually throw it back into the closet. "I guess you don't like it..."
Before I can say anything more, he's standing in front of me, not touching me but standing close enough to give me chills. His arms were clunching the closet open doors, while his gaze was devouring me entirely. "Do you want to tease me, my love? Because I can't do the same to you, if that's the way we're playing..." His mouth approaches me until it lands on the base of my neck, leaving little kisses on my heated skin. I bite my lips to keep myself sane, but I know I'm touches away from abandoning myself to the pleasure.
"I give you three seconds to become decent, before I'll storm in," I hear Hayder's voice and I push Asher off me immediately. I hurry to the room, opening it before the Lycan behind it has the chance.
"You got bored already? It's been five bloody minutes!" I shout at him, but I stop from saying anything more when I see Béatrice next to him with Chase nowhere in sight. "Oh my God, Bee!"
I drag her into our room and she immediately falls into my arms, tears falling down her cheeks. I sit ourselves on the bed and I look at Hayder and Asher for help. "What happened, Bee?" I ask her when I realise that the boys won't tell me anything. Pricks.
"Did Chase do something?" I ask, but she skakes her head immediately.
"No, it was a unbelieviable..." her eyes dry for a second, her mind clearly lost in the moments she has spent with her soul mate. She inhales deeply, then burst back into crying. "It was a dream, until Denis called me and I just blocked."
Denis is Béatrice boyfriend since their Year 12 and managed to keep a long-distance relationship since college. He's studying Economics in Liverpool and often visits Boulder to spend time with Bee. I remember she told me that they had plans to spent Christmas in Austria this year, at his family cabin in the Alps. Now, I'm sure this won't happen, if Chase is anything like Asher and more important, if Bee feels the mate bond.
"I answered because he was insisting," she continues, barely looking at me through the tears falling down her cheeks. "And I stepped away from Chase, but he still heared everything I talked with Denis." She stops again, trying to calm down, before further speaking. "And I just told Denis that I was fine and that I couldn't talk, but Chase went fucking fou and asked me to hang up. Of course Denis heard him and started asking me who was I with, then both of them were yelling at me and I..."
I caress her hair as my friend continues to cry in my arms, and I wasn't able to help her in any way. I'm the worst person you could ask for advice when it comes to soul-mate-troubles, but I try to comfort yer whoever I can. "It's okay, Bee..."
"It's not okay!" She shouts at me through her sobs, "Denis blocked me and Chase just disappeared when I was trying to call Denis back... I think I lost them both Ally, and I just found him."
"So what do you want to do now?" I ask her and she just sighs deeply.
"Who am I supposed to know what choice is the right one to make, in a situation like this? Would you know what to do, if you were me?"
"I would've locked into my room and avoid anyone," I admit and she just giggles because my room mate witnesses me doing exactly this a numerous times now. "But you're smarter than me, Bee. Just listen to your heart because, shallow as it may seem to be, it's the only one that can guide you to happiness."
Béatrice just nods at my words and I hug her tightly. "I want to see Chase," she decides. " At least to clear things out. I can't talk with Denis now anyway, because he's mad and won't answer. Tomorrow morning he may call, but now I need to find Chase."
"Then it's time you meet the pack," says Asher and my friend just nods.
It's time we go home.
***
We left as soon as Bee packed a few things and jumped into Hayder's car. He sped to the pack, which didn't please me too much, but I didn't say anything. I could care about my movement sickness after we find Chase. I hope he'll be in the pack, but he's still not answering his phone so I probably the night will be far longer than I'd have expected.
It was past midnight when we arrived in the pack and nearly all the lights were out. Hayder parked in the car park at the border of the pack and Béatrice is the first to jump out from the back seat. She stops when she is met by the unfamiliar setting and looks over to me. I round the car and I entwine our arms together. I walk with her towards the pack house, with Asher and Hayder closely following us.
Phoebe was staying on the porch, reading a book. She raised her head when we climbed the few steps of the wood, gleefully waving at us. "Adeline! So glad to see you're back!" I smile back at her, then Béatrice catches her eyes. "And who's your friend?"
"My room mate, Béatrice" I answer, avoiding giving any other details about Bee. "Is okay that I brought her here?"
"Of course, any friend of yours is welcomed. Nice to meet you, Béatrice. I'm Phoebe, welcome to the Boulder Pack."
"Ahm, merci." Is my friend's simple response, clearly taken aback by the word 'pack'.
"Have you seen Chase?" I ask her and she nods.
"Yeah, but he pretended he didn't see me when he arrived. He just stormed into the house and has been locked up in his room ever since," before Phoebe can finish her sentence, I drag Bee inside the pack house. Asher follows and goes ahead, because I had no idea which one was Chase's room. Hayder remained on the porch with Phoebe, asking for news about the upcoming semifinals.
Chase's room was on the second floor, the second room from the end of the hallway. Asher knocked at his door, but no one answered. "I know you're in there, Chase. Stop acting like a child, your soul mate is here."
The door bursts open a second later and the Lycan looks extremely surprised by Béatrice's apparition in the pack house. He didn't know what to say, but luckily for him, Bee decided to speak. "Can we talk?"
She entered his room before he was able to nod, and Asher and I were at the end of the hallway before their door even closed. We went back to the ground floor, heading towards the kitchen. I'm starving since we left the ballroom, as I wasn't in any mood for eating at the semi-formal.
The werewolf workers were no where to be seen, as they must have left after dinner. But luckily, there was still some food left in the fridge. "We have tuna casserole and carbonara, which one fancies you?"
"The casserole," I answer and Asher takes out the potluck.
My phone was buzzing for some time now and I decide to finally check it. I had a few messages from Will, mostly asking me if I was going to hunt tonight. I guess he didn't got the memo that I wasn't given any missions until the big one my parents planned.
Which is next monday...
And from which I may not return. I grew up knowing that one day, my family legacy may be my ending, and I was fine with it. But things have changed, more than I cared to admit, and although I could fool Asher into believing that I'm going back home just because my mother promised to drop the case against him, I'd feel awful for lying to him. It's better if I let him now what is going to happen, because it will either way. He can't do anything to keep me from doing my job, the duty I have for not only my family, but the whole world. If my parents were honest and this mission is the key at avoiding a supernatural world war, then I'll gadly sacrifice myself. I hate that Jez has to take part too, but I'm also glad that I won't be alone there. Not that it will raise our chances at survival, zero is still zero no matter how many times you multiply it.
"We have to talk," I say when he puts two plates of tuna casserole on the table. I was already seated and the food smelled delicious, too bad I had yet again lost my appetite.
"Sure, about?" He asks, taking a bite from his food and I do the same. Maybe I should've waited for after we ate, because now I'm going to ruin both of our dinners.
"I'm going to tell you something that will make you mad," I say, bitting my lips after I speak. I wasn't looking at him, keeping my eyes on my plate.
"I'd tempted to say that nothing that you say will ever make me mad, but we both know that'd be a fat lie." We both laugh at his words, but then he gently grabs him hand that was sitting on the table. "I'm listening love, what happened?"
