The Man:
I watch as Flash brings in the last of the Insurgency. This time, it's an elderly man in a suit with glasses and aging brown hair and his partner, some kid with a hoodie and jeans. When I see the two, I lean back and cross my arms.
"This is so much worse than what I thought," I say, shaking my head. "Then again, I really didn't think much about this."
"Umm," Green Arrow starts, waving his hand high in the air. "We're all right here. You know."
"Yeah, I know. So? What's your point, emerald archer?"
"My point is," he starts, making circles with his free hand. "What the hel--"
Getting another tickle in my throat, I cough very loudly, interrupting Robin Hood.
"Excuse that," I say, pointing a finger at Arrow. "But if you were about to ask what the heck is going on, let me put it like this. Something bad is about to happen and I need your help to stop it. Not all of you, but like a decent chunk of you."
"A decent chunk," Selina repeats, tossing one leg over another. "What exactly do you mean by 'a decent chuck'?"
Thinking it over for a bit, counting on my fingers, I point toward the elderly guy, the kid standing beside him, Bug, and Kara.
"The four of them will do," I say. "The four of them, plus me, will infiltrate the Watchtower and destroy it before Superman can finish its construction."
"Watchtower," Black Canary shouts, only slighter quieter than her sonic scream. "Wait, what! Barry, is that why you suddenly grab us? Why didn't you tell us about this sooner?"
"It's because he refuses to tell me anything until I pick all of you up," Flash yells, pointing a finger at me.
On the verge of breaking his finger, I restrain myself and look around some more.
"This won't be easy," I say. "There are only six of you, not counting Kara and myself: Harleen, Catwoman, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Blue Beetle, and Firestorm. Seven if we count Firestorm as two people, but still. Without more help, we're screwed. We are screwed big time."
"Again," Green Arrow says, putting his hand back into the air. "We are all right here. We can hear you. You're saying things out loud, and also, one more thing. There may only be 'six' of us, but despite our number, we are still strong."
"Listen," I start, "I know dictionaries are a bit old and whatnot, but you really should look up what the word strong actually means. I'm just saying."
"Excuse me," the elder man says, raising a finger, "But if I may ask. Who are you?"
"That is not important," I reply. "What is important is the matter of Watchtower. You know, that giant thing in space with a massive laser that is almost ready."
"How do you know about that," the elderly man asks, now starting to annoy me.
"When did I become the center of attention," I say before facing the crowd. "Before breaking Kara out of Stryker, I worked as an engineer on Watchtower. Besides knowing how long before it's ready, I also know the whole layout incredibly well, including the weak points. I can guide us where we need to go."
"You broke Supergirl out of Stryker Island," Selina says, "By yourself! How?"
"Before working as an engineer on Watchtower, I also used to work as a prison guard on Stryker. That's how I learned the layout along with the schedules and time shifts."
"Wait," Bug says, "You worked as a prison guard on Stryker Island and as an engineer on the Watchtower? How?"
"Okay," I scream, cutting the air with my hands. "One more question and I will punch someone in the eye. Do not make me."
"How do you plan on getting the five of you onto the Watchtower," Flash asks, breaking the peaceful silence in the base.
I walk up the seating area to where Flash is sitting and punch him right in the face, knocking him back. Getting screams and shouts from the other surrounding members, I turn to face them.
"Let it be said that I am true to my word," I say, raising my right hand and putting my left hand on my chest. "Even though Flash did actually ask an important question. The answer to his question is right here."
I reach into one of my pockets and pull out my cell phone. I reveal it to everyone, holding it up for all to see.
"A cell phone," Harleen says. "What, are you going to call Superman for an airlift?"
"No. I'm going to use the Watchtower's teleportation pads to teleport us into Watchtower."
"The Watchtower's teleportation pads," the kid repeats. "They worked?"
Now punching him, the elderly man manages to catch him in time. While asking the kid if he is alright, I take the time to dial in some stolen passcodes.
"Hey," the kid screams, preparing to punch me back. Pulling back his fist, he sent it flying toward my head. However, before it can hit, I dial in the final passcodes and hit enter. The kid, along with all the Insurgency members then teleport. Bright lights appear around all of them and they switch places with one another. Arrow switches with Canary, the elderly man swamps the kid, Cat with Harleen, and so on.
Screaming as he reappears, Arrow stumbles before Canary manages to catch him. Moaning as she reappears, Harleen walks for a bit before falling onto the seat, holding her head. Moaning and groaning, the elderly man himself looks greener than Beast Boy.
"Okay," I start, looking at my phone and then at everyone else. "Um, yeah. There may still be a little configuration needed, but overall, it still works."
"No," Green Arrow moans, now also looking greener. "No, it doesn't."
Thinking back to my time as a Watchtower engineer spy, I begin slowly shaking my head.
"Why did I have to be put on the team that built the power room instead of the team that worked on the teleportation pad," I think.
"Maybe we should come up with another plan," Kara says, bending down to help the elderly man.
"We don't exactly have time to come up with another plan," I reply, bending down and placing the back of my hand against Professor Stein's forehead. "Last time I checked, the Watchtower is near completion. If we don't do something now, it may be too late by the time we do."
Thinking it over some more, I examine my phone.
"I may be able to do tinkering with my phone to ease the teleportation, but that's about it."
Hacking into Watchtower via remote access, I look back at Professor Stein.
"Don't worry, it's nothing major. Only a little bit of nausea. Should clear up soon. Once it does, then we must go."
"You can't be serious," Kara says, turning to me. "You just sicken everyone here and now you expect them to go on a mission with you into enemy territory. No way. They need rest."
"They also need to destroy Watchtower before Superman can use it," I say. "Listen, Kara, the second the Watchtower and its binary fusion cannon are ready, he's going to use it against Gotham City to wipe out the Insurgency. Green skin and an upset tummy are going to be the least of their problems. And once the Insurgency is done with, you know who he's going to aim the cannon at. The Green Lantern Corps. We have to act fast. I know I'm sounding careless, but time is not something we have on our side at the moment. You and everyone else can hate me all you want right now, but we will have to go soon."
Getting back up on my feet, I return to my cell phone and begin some adjustments to the teleportation. In only a matter of minutes, I finish the adjustments.
"I did what I could to ease the teleportation into Watchtower," I start, letting both my arm and phone drop to my side. "There will still be some discomforts but they shouldn't be too bad."
"Shouldn't be too bad," Jason repeats, having the strength to fully sit up now.
"Yes," I reply, "They shouldn't be too bad you big baby. Now, ready yourself and if you have anything to want to get off your chest, say it now."
I turn to look at Harleen for a quick second.
"Harleen, I may have only met your dogs for a few seconds but let me tell you this. I will from this point forward, forever hate them. So long and bye-bye."
Tapping my phone before anything or anyone could say anything, the elderly man, the kid, Bug, Kara, and I all turn into small balls of lights before teleporting directly into the Watchtower.
