Chapter 5: Meeting with my neighbour.
MC POV:
Taking one step forward to a probably now foreign world(even though it is just in front of the door of my apartment), I can see many destruction and smoke in the area. Although no building is destroyed in the process, I can see many cars crash into each other on the road in front of my apartment.
Cutting short my reminiscences, I cautiously inspected the hallway of my apartment floor for any monster or zombies. The announcement said it was a dimensional being that will be spawning in this world and not zombies so there must be other enemies other than zombies that will come to this world, dunno maybe goblin or orcs?
After I ensure that no zombies are here, I go to the end of the hallway where the elevator and the emergency stairs are located. Although electricity is still working, I will be vulnerable when the door of the elevator opens as it produces a somewhat loud sound as the door opens.
Of course, I can also do it like those action-movies where the character hangs on the ceiling as he/she counter ambushes the enemy. However, I am unable to do that currently. It is not because I was too weak to hang in the ceiling of an elevator, but because I was holding a massive peashooter with its pot in both of my hands and holding a backpack in my back.
Its size is almost 1 meter square! How do you expect me to hold it with one hand? Even using both hands is so heavy! I probably will only hold it until I reach the first floor and put the pot on a trolley for me to bring outside.
The journey to the end of the hallway can be said to be quite smooth as no enemy is coming to me. As I was approaching the end of the hallway, I saw another door which is supposed to be the door to my neighbour's apartment. Each floor of this apartment complex has 2 apartments where 1 of the apartment's doors is at the far end of the hallway and the other one at the near end of the hallway where the elevator is located.
My neighbour is a mother who has 1 daughter. Although I don't know what happened to her husband, at least I know that their relationship is not quite good. In fact, Their relationship as mother and daughter is also not that close as the mother always comes late at night.
My relationship with them can be said to be a bit different from each other. I am not really close with the mother as she seems to be always busy doing stuff. However, I became her 12-year-old daughter's tutor as she is not really the smart kind.
I don't become her tutor because of money or the like but because of my CAS or for those who don't know, it is basically a program where students are required to do community services such as cleaning the beach, teaching someone, volunteering, or other kinds of activity.
As I am coming closer to the door, I try to hear the sound inside the room. There was no sound that I could hear inside. My neighbour is probably still working outside, hence the quietness. However, Her daughter should be home by now from her school.
Although I am not really close with the mother, I am quite close with the daughter as somehow she became a little sister figure for me from the tutoring session that we do. Since I think of her as my sister, I should at least need to check on her. Well, let's try to ring the bell first.
~Ding Dong~
(George) "Xiao Mei, are you inside?"
Right! They are Chinese. As there are many races living in Singapore in this era, I don't really care about differences in races that much nor about nationality as I myself can be said to have 2 nationality, or maybe 3?
As a few seconds have passed, there is still no answer from the room.
(George) 'Hmm… there is no reply? Let's just press it again.'
~Ding Dong~
(George) "Xiao Mei, It is me! brother George. Are you inside?"
As the second bell rang, I could hear the sound of footsteps from inside coming towards the door.
~Clack(door opening SFX)~
As the door opens, I can see a young girl of 12 years old still wearing her school uniform coming outside the room with messy hair.
(Xiao Mei) "Brother George? Why did you come? It is Monday, not Saturday right? where I have a tutor with... you.…. Brother!!! What is that big weird plant behind you???"
As she shouted the last sentence, I just realised that she could see the peashooter that I left on the floor when pressing the doorbell. I mean, I can't press the doorbell when both of my hands are holding a plant right?
As a character or a plant from a retro game, it is not surprising that she is not able to recognise that. Even if my friend sees this thing, I am sure that not even them are able to recognise this plant.
Now, I need to either explain this plant or change her question, but how should I do that? Oh right!
(George) "Well, this is a peashooter plant, it can shoot a big pea from its mouth. Anyway, did you know that we had just got an earthquake?"
(Xiao Mei) "A pishu...Wait, an EARTHQUAKE? Like yesterday???"
(George) "Eh??? You didn't feel it, Did you also see the announcement?"
(Xiao Mei) "Ehehehe… I was so tired after coming back from school that I slept on my bed right away. Anyway, what is the announcement? Is it from the government for us to evacuate seeing as you have those backpacks and the pishu...your weird plant?"
After hearing her explanation, I was dumbstruck on how she missed a very important event because she was sleeping. But this is bad, how should I explain to her the whole thing about the apocalypse and the Earth Upgrade…
Speaking of things, I forgot the whole thing about the meteor from yesterday due to this whole crazy event since the earthquake just now that I forgot yesterday's bizarre event. Is the meteor somehow connected to the Earth upgrade or it is just a coincidence… the bigger chances are it is connected in some way but I still don't know how it is related.
Anyway, let's try to explain this whole mess to her.
(George) "Hmm… It is not from the government, but it is from the Earth itself."
(Xiao Mei) "The Earth itself? What do you mean?"
(George) "Right, to make it shorter, just think or speak the word status to understand what happened much faster."
(Xiao Mei) "Umm okay?
As she speaks the word, a screen must have appeared inside her mind seeing from her reaction as I can't see her status screen. Speaking of status, It seems the activation of status is more toward will as I didn't see my screen just when using the word in my mind or when I speak before.
Other than that, after some experiment before I check my almanac, I can see the attribute, skills, plant, perk tab separately from the status. This makes me curious whether I have other things or options other than status seeing as the Earth is following an RPG genre. Well, let's try it as it looks like Xiao Mei is still reading her status with enthusiasm as she herself is a gamer.
