Stirring the tap water in a glass while I was circling my pointer finger in the air making a small water tornado inside the glass of water. And then suddenly my friend taps me in my shoulder making me look at him.
"What?" I said making him look at me like I was making a huge fire cracker. A full attentive expression like he was signaling me to stop what I am doing...
So I stopped. And I saw him look at my plate so did I. And I saw some excess water leaking just below the bottom of my glass of water. Dam...
I put out my bag of tissue and clean up my mess at this messy, full of vandal, dirty and cracky table at the corner of the cafeteria of Neorgie Junior High. Good thing those impertinent earth-vexing horn-beasts are busy bullying another pitiful student. That's why Alex and I have a nice and quiet break before our next subject start.
"Sorry." I whispered. I saw him nodded in understanding.
I can't help it, whenever I'm bored or thinking really deep, I unconsciously do that. I don't know why. Well maybe because I was born this way? This mutant way.
You see, it all started when I was five years old. We have a tour at this particular place together with my friends in the orphanage - house for orphan kids. And then some of us was swimming and then a kid two years above my age started to drown and instinctively, I swam towards her despite my age without the help of an older person and then saved her as she was starting to descend into the water. I dived down and noticed that even if my head's underwater, I was still breathing fine. So yeah, that have started my taking notice of my what you call this? Power? I didn't let anyone know that. And I chose to have this for eternity.
But, someone just have to witness my power as he saw me saving another kid from highschool bullies, the good thing is, he is mute but he can hear. He just type or write on his notepad the things he has to say. And he is the only friend I have and I'm not planning to make another.
'Are you okay?, you've staring in space lately.' Says Alex in his notepad as he put it onto my face blocking him from my sight. I put it down and looked at his eyes, his bluish brown eyes.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Let's go now, we have class after this." I said and got up, he did too. We left the cafeteria and walked towards our next class which is Physical Education.
The Physical Education in which I don't know why we still have that in our class. In my own opinion, if we graduate, we can never even use this aspect on our future work. What will we going to gain here? Flexibility? Enjoyment? Enough with this adult ted talk, we're starting.
"Okay kids stop clattering and listen!" Miss Mizu - our Tai PE teach - shouted at the others bickering, making noise. Tai people really are not fond of noise, same here teach. She's wearing P.E. uniform, white shirt - red tracksuit combo, her long black hair was tied behind her back. Despite her professionalism, she's still young at the age of Twenty-seven.
"You are already 3rd year middle schoolers who are bound to know and practice the art of listening and observing people in your next stage of education - being high school students." And so on and so forth. I didn't catch on what she was talking about because my mind wandered of somewhere down the road.
"Just so you know we gather here today for me to see what you all learned in these past years in my subject. And of course, I have already chose your opponents that you have to defeat."
She was just sitting in a stool as she said that and at the same time while holding a paper. We just listened as she called the names of the one who are against to whom. I whistled as I heard Alex's and my name being called and whom we are against to. Looks like Alex will be on a...no, I know Alex will win.
Alex who is just at my side looked at me and smiled, I did too, and nodded to each other as we know we can win this match. This P.E. is actually what you can call defensive training. At the age of thirteen, as soon as a child entered junior high, they are required and mandatory to learn how to defend themselves.
"Well, well, well. Looks like I gotta beat the shit out of this mute harpy. Are you ready to cry?" I stared at this errant fool-born giglet as he menacingly stared down at my pal. I invisibly smirk. Just wait for it you puny ill-nurtured lout, you will be the one end up crying.
His infectious ill-breeding baggages snickered, bullying my friend. I clicked my tongue and hold Alex' shirt for him to look at me. I leaned up to reach his height - he is taller than me in just a few inches but still - to whisper on his ear. Good thing he leaned down.
"Kill 'em nicely." He just looked at me in wonder for a sec and smiled while shaking his head.
'That's rough.' Say his notepad. I just smiled at him.
"Okay next!" Alex walked towards the center of the class crowd to face his opponent. I found a nice view of the match, a meter beside Miss Mizu.
"Alex vs. Ron, start!" She called and whistled. Alex just stand there waiting for that big butt boar to attack first. And when he did, Alex countered his opponent's attack by placing his body down below and gave 'em an uppercut and it hit. I smiled as I saw his opponent clutch down his painful chin. Ohh I saw blood. Alex placed his both arms in front of his chest and chin to shield his body for an upcoming attack this hedge-pig might do. They exchanged few punches and well, only Alex was the one who landed that few punches on his opponent. Butt-face boar always give an attack full of openings as he attempts to punch Alex using his dominant fist. Alex didn't let it pass and attack the gurgle-face's opened side using his right leg that made that joggerhead flew at the other side making him loose consciousness. Ouch, that surely is painful. Take that. Don't you dare bully my friend ever. I know Alex's strength more than anyone else in the world. I was always training with him at our place so I know.
And then Miss Mizu whistled that made the match stop. She walked towards where the unconscious pig flew and check up on him.
"Match 9: Alex Won!" she called out that made me smiled and gave Alex a thumbs up. He gave me a smile as he walked towards me. I gave him his towel when he was at my side.
"Okay, the last but not the least." Miss Mizu called so I walked in at the center, so does my opponent. I glanced at Alex at the side giving me a nod. I smiled as I ready myself. I stared at my opponent. I have always been thinking a way to get revenge from this dull-head gal as she was always the star of the gang bullying somebody of anything. And now I will finally give her a lesson of a lifetime. This qualling guts-gripping measle sonofabitch smirked victoriously at me while crossed-armed thinking she already won just by facing me. Hah! In your dreams fabitch. Just wait for it.
"Last match: Russel vs. Roda, start!"
As soon as Miss Mizu called, bitch-face lauched forward, attempting to punch but no, not today, I immediately gave her a punch on her face, a strong one I tell you. She shrieked as soon as my fist landed on her face. Hah take that.
"No! My make-up! I'll make you pay!" She said and attempt to land a punch on me but I dodge and dodge and saw an opening.
"You are full of openings." I said and gave her a strong chop on her neck making her landed on her feet, unconscious. You already know that we have defense training today and you still wore make-up, duh of course it will be ruined, dull-head.
Miss Mizu whistled, calling the finished match. Our other classmates roared in astonishment as I won our match in just a minute. I counted so I know.
"Wow!" "Amazing!" "I never knew Russel can be that badass!" "I thought she was just letting them do what they did to them." "You really should not judge a book by its cover."
Them. Just them talking to themselves. I don't even care what they thought about me, but not if it's my only friend. I will make them pay.
Alex and I was just sitting at a bench in front of the pool that is just beside the gymnasium where we were before for our P.E. class, enjoying the sun reflected water dancing at the beat of the wind. I smiled while looking at the water. We are the only one here because all of our classmates are already at the cafeteria to eat their lunches. I'm not really that hungry but we still bought lunch and ate here in silence.
"You know Alex, you really don't have to be always by my side. But I always want to say thank you for being here with me, always following me wherever I went, whenever I need you, you are always there. Thank you very much for being at my side, Thank you for being my best friend." I don't expect him to reply so I just continued to watch the water.
"Rus..."
"Russel! Alex!" Someone called our names so I looked where it came from and saw Miss Mizu at the entrance. She looked like she was looking everywhere for us. I stood up from our seat as I saw her walking towards us.
"Miss Mizu, what is it? Is there a problem?" She huffed a few and stand up.
"Come with me at the Principal's Office." Alex and I just stared at each other.
Miss Mizu knocked three loud knocks following a three knocks and another loud three knocks. What's the emergence for? I glanced at Alex who gave me a 'I-also-know-nothing' gesture. And then we entered the office. She locked the door and a man in his late forties entered from another door and sat down on his black leather swivel chair. He glanced at Miss Mizu in which she nodded. They were just looking at each other for a whole minute, communicating using their eyes. And then Miss Mizu nodded again. I glanced at Alex who is also looking confused. I faked a cough making them look at me.
"So, umm. What are we doing here?" The principal sat down properly simultaneously as Miss Mizu stood up properly.
"Let me be frank to you two." He started. "I have been searching for kids who are exceptional in any thing our world is in. And you two have my eyes on. I have been investigating your whole life as you grown. From where you were born, from what kind of environment you two had, from what life you had when you were still little kids, from what you are, and etcetera. And I have witness that kind of something only you two have." We flinched at he said that. I gulped and started to worry. But wait, what is he talking about? I know I have something but also Alex have? I glanced at him, he was frozen in his place.
"What do you mean, what we have?" Mr. Principal looked at us while smiling. I don't know if it's genuine or not.
"Why don't you tell her, Mr. Scott."
Alex shook his head while looking down.
"Mr. Principal, he can't talk."
"He can talk." He pointed out. I looked at Alex surprisingly. He looked at me guilty and the same time pleading. Of what? For what? By what?
"Mr. Williams, maybe they need more time about that." Miss Mizu cut down the uncomfortable silence in the room.
"Oh! Yeah. And you two have to be in that country to be able to master that kind of ability you two have. Miss Mizu will bring you there." I looked back at him.
"What? Country? What do you mean we transfer out of the country to another?" I asked confusedly. I really don't know what they are talking about. First, they investigated our lives. Second, they know something about Alex that I don't know. Third, transfer out to another country? For what? Just what the fudge?
"Miss Mizu will tell everything. Dismissed." He said and stood up from his seat and left the room.
"Miss Mizu, what is he talking about?" I asked her. She was just silent the whole time as Alex and I followed her just like she told us to. She opened up a house and step inside. Alex and I was just standing outside.
"What are you two waiting for? Come in. Don't forget to strip down your shoes at the entryway." She said and walked inside. Alex and I looked at each other and then did what we are told to and entered the house. It was a two storey house just like a modern Japanese house that I saw in some textbooks and internet. Its interior is painted with creamy color with a lining of blue and gold. Its furniture is minimal just like a true Japanese. The living room has a tatami table with four pillow that you can sit on, an eleven inches flat screen television and a small wooden cabinet at the corner with an ikebana arranged flowery at the top. Miss Mizu arrived at living room with three cups of tea in a tray.
"Sit down you two. Lets talk about what Mr. Williams said." And so we did.
"Before anything else, I want you two to listen carefully and do not interrupt what I am saying. And after I told you two everything, you can ask me anything. Do you understand?" She said calmly and sip her tea. We looked at each other and nodded at her direction saying that we understand. She breath in and out. And started to talk.
Only a few picked country leaders knew about this but we are actually having an unusual occurrence that only this third millennia occurred. It was still on going but we already know what was happening. That year 3000 was a beginning of something that we still don't know what causes.
A powerful light gave birth to a few chosen children that was born in that year. That few children grew up to have a natural power a human cannot comprehended when or where it came from.
Some of the scientists says that it came from the GH-195 asteroid that passed through the Thermosphere of our planet that year and then something had happened to a child that was born that particular day that the asteroid arrived. Every children that was born in that week that the asteroid passed have something in common, they were born with super natural power that even our previous generations have none.
It was the first time that had happened in our world. People that witnesses the child being born had been silence as soon as they told the government that their child have a natural born power as soon as they hit the age of five. Only the parents and the government knew about something like this so that they can protect their children from any harm and also to help them control the natural power they have received.
"That's why we are searching for the other children who have been given this power." Miss Mizu concluded as she finishes what she was saying. So it was natural huh. Should I trust her words? You see, I have trust issues. I don't trust a person so easily. I have been so shut and silent my whole life. But there are just few people I trust the most, and one of them is Alex. I glanced at him. Now I am unsure. I want him to tell me the truth. I want to know him better.
"And then? What will you going to do now? Are we going to transfer as soon as possible to that place you told us to?" She stared at me.
"I noticed that you don't have any patience despite the given power you have which is water, how ironic." She said with a little disturb.
"I know. I have been that way." I said as I stood up.
"Come on, Alex. Let's go home. We need to talk." I said and started to walk out of the house.
"Russel." She called so I looked back and asked what.
"You two have no place to return to now."
"What do you mean?"
"Mr. Williams have ordered me to collect all your things at your place and have them deliver here at this house. So from now on, you two will be attending this home for awhile before we transfer to Tai for your training to control your powers." I was stunned of what she said and looked at Alex who was also in the same feelings as I. I clenched my teeth. They are starting their move to control us.
I have been clicking my tongue for the past ten minutes already here at Alex's provided room at Miss Mizu's second floor. His room was just parallel to mine at the end of the hallway. The second floor has six rooms. Her room is the first door you see when you arrived at the peak of the stairs.
She also provided me a room of course but I have to talk to Alex so that I am here in his room. He just finished dressing up and starting to dry his hair but I took his towel from him.
"Sit down. I'll dry your hair." He just stood there for a sec but still did what I told him to. He sat down at the carpeted floor, his back facing mine, and I started to dry his hair.
"You know why I am here. You can tell me everything, I will hear you out." He nodded his head a bit, I heard him took a breath in and out to calm himself. And for the first time in these three years that we've been friends, I heard his voice.
