"You'll kill the six on high after finishing us off? Did I do something to make you hate me in particular?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, for some reason you wish to kill me twice."
"What?"
Then, the realization of who I was dawned on him. He tried to hide it but I could tell that fear was clouding his mind. Moments later he forcefully suppressed that fear and looked terribly angry. Yep the fact that he quaked at the mere realization that one of the people he just said he'd kill off easily stood before him hurt his pride.
"Is that fear I smell? Didn't you just nonchalantly talk about killing all six of us? Or was that just some false bravado meant to scare us?"
"Shut up! I am part of the new generation and we will surpass you old fools and become the new rulers of all existence! You merely act tough! We are born stronger than you and we have enjoyed great care our whole lives! We are the best and you just try to hold us down!"
"Oh, you talked to Heather. You poor lamb, so susceptible to lies as long as your petty ego is stroked long enough. What makes you think that the new generation is better than the old one?"
"I heard the stories. You grew up without a working magic system and made many mistakes while exploring the possibilities. My breakthroughs are all flawless!"
"Little boy, let me tell you something. It's true that we did not have a system that we could follow while growing. However, all a system does is categorize things. The way you took to become a deity is by no means the best one. Additionally, the system you are so proud of has a fatal flaw."
"You are lying! I went from mortal to deity and faced no obstruction whatsoever! What's the flaw?"
He was putting up a brave front but he was really scared now.
"The flaw is only known to few people. Since you are at the deity level you should have been told but I guess you didn't fancy listening."
"WHAT IS IT?!!!"
"The end of the grading."
"End of the grading?"
"You see, after reaching the realm of deities there is no further grading. That makes some idiots think that their strength is at the same level as that of those far stronger than them."
He stubbornly refused to believe the truth before him. He felt threatened in my presence. His instincts naturally tried to warn him of the danger lurking nearby but he pushed them down and forced them to subside.
That made him feel better as he told his wounded ego that this feeling was merely a trick I had conjured up to fool him. His insistence was so strong that he completely shut out the alarm sirens in his mind that were yelling at him that he was in danger.
I wasn't talking to him for fun. I wasn't provoking his ego just to make him have insecurities. I was using the fact that he was suppressing his danger instincts to layer the entire space around him with spells that I could trigger at any moment.
He was a deity and thus had two innate understandings at the very least. One was of light but the other was still unknown to me. To be safe I used a wide variety of different elements and principles to make sure he couldn't counter what was about to rain down on him.
I was about to continue wrapping him up in tales of the past and drowning his common sense with hidden truths when he reached the limit of his patience. Every second he spent talking to me had increased the stress he was under until it got too much for him and he lost it.
A domain of light and purification expanded from him as he flew at me with a wordless scream of anguish. I immediately offset his domain with my domain of darkness.
Despair crept onto his face as my single element domain slowly pushed back his double domain. Light and dark mutually restrained each other and with the addition of his innate understanding of purification, he should have been winning.
But alas, it wasn't meant to be. My darkness consumed his light and the waves of purification swept over it without leaving a trace. With the domain countered I began to spring the trap I had set for him.
Before he had the chance to react he found countless lances of pure darkness flying at him. Each lance gave him a feeling of death and he desperately burst forth with all his strength to disperse the coming danger.
Lights flashed as he launched many spells and barely managed to destroy the lances.
As he breathed in relief at the sight of the lances dispersing he saw that from each lance a miniature star was launched. In a river of starlight, those tiny celestial bodies continued on their way and grew smaller as they approached him.
Seeing that the lances made of darkness had merely been a cover for the starts to get close he quickly summoned his power to launch another array of spells to keep his life intact.
The magic within him gathered together attempting to change the world around him to his will but nothing happened. The spells he was casting weren't appearing and the stars had already reached him.
Within my nyl zone even a deity wasn't capable of freely casting spells. The stars had already been created so they weren't affected by the obstruction and finally reached him.
Once they were close enough all the starts gave off a long, drawn-out sigh and the compression holding them at this level was released all at once.
I flashed out of the formation and began to raise barriers around it. The space inside was now locked down and teleporting out was impossible at this point in time.
As the energy from the exploding stars grew ever more intense a dozen defensive artifacts and treasures on his body began to light up and attempted to save his life.
