Chapter 102 - Discovery (2)

"I believe you are overreacting, prince Amon. Showing such blatant bloodlust while in the presence of your brother may cause misunderstandings."

"Cut the nonsense! You know something and you will tell me."

"Fine, fine. The purple-eyed ones are my fault but the monarch is just an unlucky coincidence."

"Explain!"

The light around the prince grew brighter and he once again increased the pressure coming down on me. He must have been under the impression that I was talking due to fear. I decided to feed him some more morsels to see what would happen next.

"The dark fog is an entity that has been around for ages. The purple-eyed ones are called vessels. They contain a dark fog origin and have the ability to convert others into red-eyed pawns. Creating a dark fog origin isn't hard but creating anything above the rank of a vessel is incredibly hard."

"And the monarch?"

"The dark fog has a thing called a source. Don't ask me what it is I've never seen one. But that source can generate a source code and gift it to an individual using a vessel as a medium. Monarchs aren't particularly strong but they retain most of their mental faculties and can generate dark fog origins. I believe that is all and you can stop this drama now."

"Did you think it would end this easily? You are a danger to the empire and you will never be allowed to live."

"Well, there is one little problem. There are only four beings in this room and no one else knows of anything. As long as I shut you up I will suffer no repercussions whatsoever."

At my mention of a fourth individual being inside the room, prince Amon's eyes went wide. He hadn't expected me to be able to notice, huh. Too bad for him that I did.

Before I could let my own powers gush forth and let them rip apart this room and probably a part of the palace around it, the hidden being spoke.

"Let us take this fight somewhere else. Fighting here would involve many innocent civilians."

"Such is the risk of forcing the issue. I wasn't the one who started this."

"Those people are innocent bystanders."

"As is prince Gideon and despite that, he needs to go through this. If I leave with you he will doubtlessly be at a disadvantage when faced with his brother who is on a higher rank."

"I see. Then I propose that in return for moving our battle to someplace else our fight will determine everything."

"I can live with that."

I followed the being that still chose to remain hidden. We exited through a window of the palace and ascended into the sky. After we had found a wide-open piece of sky with what looked like a lush forest below we stopped.

"It's a shame. For such a nice forest to soon be ruined."

"Would you like to move a little further?"

"No need. Wherever we would go there would be something that might be destroyed in the process. Now, I think it's time for you to stop hiding and reveal yourself."

"I am Sol, the god of this world."

"I assume those golden winds that form channels to other realms are your doing then?"

"Those winds are my desire for the discovery of the unknown. I am not consciously creating those rifts."

"Discovery isn't always taken well to."

"I am aware but that is part of the thrill."

A fiery creature of light became visible before me. Sol didn't take human form as most gods did when interacting with sapient races. His body only had a vaguely human shape and was close to that of an elemental.

"Would you like to go first?"

Sol was being cocky. He was a god as strong as a rank seven archmage and few things could ever challenge him.

Unfortunately, I was one of those things. I flashed and reappeared in front of him. My hand clenched and was driven into his gut with a terrifying force. Space twisted under my punch and Sol's body was catapulted away like a broken ragdoll.

All the force that sank into his gut propelled his body backward and he fell into the forest like a falling meteor. The impact sent waves through the trees and a giant crater now marred the leafy ocean of trees.

Fires had broken out at the edges of the crater and were quickly spreading. The hungry blaze was going to continue to devour whatever it could burn. And there was a lot of wood around.

A forest fire wasn't really what I wanted right now so I sent a series of gusts to extinguish those growing flames.

"Are you sure you have the time to be putting out those flames?"

The crater exploded with bits of burning trees, dirt, and chipped stones as a miniature sun manifested out of nowhere. The heat made countless new flames spring forth in the forest around.

"And I had just taken the time to extinguish those fires. You really have some nerve to set things on fire so brazenly. Dark wind that chases the gods, Typhon!"

As the miniature sun attempted to rise from the crater and return to the sky a dark wind rose from my hand and slammed into the miniature sun. The glowing orb of heat was pushed back down into the earth that began to rapidly melt under the smoldering temperatures.

The forest wasn't doing good. The strong winds uprooted countless trees and flung them around while fires kept spreading everywhere.

Sol was roaring in his miniature sun. He kept pushing against the dark winds but failed to gain altitude. Instead, he was thrust deeper into the earth. The ground around him had already turned into molten lava.

In a desperate attempt to escape the suppression from above Sol detonated his miniature sun. Fire exploded in every direction and the resulting force was great enough to temporarily disperse my dark winds allowing his tattered body to rise back into the air.
