Chapter 79 - Our battle will be legendary! Or not...

The gods seemed to be using a flying ship made of large bones to travel. Somehow the ship was able to escape most senses unless the one spying on them took the risk of being found.

However, all that was useless against me and I could clearly observe the deck of the ship through their eyes. They were matching their pace with the group on the ground keeping about 300 meters of distance between them.

For now, I followed them and kept observing. As we approached the oasis the gods started to talk.

"So this is it? Blossom oasis as they have named it. The wall seems a little out of place."

"It's an oasis that popped up here out of nowhere. I'm not surprised that they built a wall to protect themselves. The gods we sent here must have simply forgotten to mention it since it's so insignificant. Let the buns show their power and tear it down."

"Calm yourself, Scorch. We should remain vigilant at all times. No matter how little you think of the gods our factions sent here before you cannot dispute that they were gods. For so many of them to perish they must have faced strong gods."

"Have you lost your courage dearest Fa? You and Solon are the leaders of the wind and light god factions. Apart from master Pire and lord Qwas, there is no one stronger than you and yet you are scared of some unknown gods. Pathetic!"

"Say it as you will, Scorch. Fa and I may be strong but the only reason we got this far is that we were always this cautious. If you wish to charge straight into your death then be my guest but do it without this ship and anyone on it!"

The light god, Solon from how they called him during their conversation seemed the careful type while Scorch, the only fire god, was a hot-headed fool. How cliché.

Still, being pressures by both Solon and Fa as well as their entire entourage Scorch settled down. The entire group fell into silence as they gazed down upon the group of bunny people spurring on their mounts as they closed in on the city.

The group was led by a massive bunny-kin who exuded a fiery aura. He was still within the realm of high mages but infinitely close to breaking through and advancing. A Kanabo like weapon was carried on his shoulder, the polished and well-oiled wood gleaming in the sunlight that made the iron studs look like small black holes.

This Kanabo was a holy weapon blessed by a god with the attribute of fire. Its power was around that of a unique (grade 3) weapon if not a little higher. Maybe I should have given Kesh a better weapon too...

Well, it was too late now.

The massive bunny-kin raised his fist and the entire group came to a halt. I had been expecting them to simply attack head-on but apparently, they weren't that stupid. Two small groups of four bunny people riding on giant ostriches each split from the main group.

One group took off to the left and the other to the right as they circled around the wall at a considerable distance. They crossed paths halfway and returned from where the others had started. Remaining on their mounts they reported to the massive bunny-kin.

"Lord Khan, the wall appears to have right gates but they all look to be made of sandstone and strike me as weird. We have observed at least a hundred enemies on the walls and likely more below it. They don't seem to have many high mages but a few readings we can't quite place."

I was anticipating this Khan guy's answer but instead, someone else answered. A human mounted on a comically small ostrich spoke and even more curiously was answered.

"How's the wall? Can you get over it if the gates hold?"

"They don't seem high enough to keep our desert hares from leaping over but those who don't have that kind of mount will have to use magic or jump themselves while risking a bad landing."

Based on my understanding the population of this realm valued strength so how a human who wasn't even a mage could talk eye to eye with a bunch of high mages was a mystery to me. Meanwhile, the human continued to speak.

"This is troublesome. I'd like to avoid splitting our forces so letting those with desert hares jump over won't be a good option. Do we have a sand element mages who can make us a ramp?"

"We do but they can only work if the ground hasn't been tampered with. Also, they will be vulnerable while they do it."

"That's good enough. We'll ascend the wall through a ramp and overrun them with sheer numbers and raw firepower. They won't even get the chance to use any tricks they may have up their sleeves."

A strategist of sorts. However, not a very bright one as it would appear. His "make a ramp then charge" strategy took too many things for granted. Yes, the ground hadn't been tampered with so a ramp could be made but what if it was collapsed again?

Sand was an element that many knew for its fickleness ability to change its shape in an instant. If the ramp were to turn into quicksand while they were on top of it...

Furthermore, flexing your firepower was fine but they were going up against an unknown enemy so how the heck did they get the idea that they had superior firepower?

For this maneuver to succeed he should have added at least a diversion or two and preferably a way to keep the ramp steady and in place. An amateur strategist was what this human was but the bunny people were hanging at his lips. If possible I would have liked to capture the human and find out his story. Something about him was different like he didn't belong here.
