Chapter 74 - Dryad goddess

The process of making these potions was arduous but I thought of it as good practice. Fine control over using an innate understanding was a very desirable skill so I should take every chance I could get to train it.

Soon all the divine power I had gathered was used up and turned into precious potions. I stored the potions and retrieved the other things I had harvested.

Since these had been real gods and not just an oracle I'd gotten some physical materials too. The flesh and blood of a god were filled with energy and consuming it would no doubt be beneficial. The main problem with consuming gods was that some of them looked human and that left a bad aftertaste in most people's mouths.

Due to such ethical concerns, the flesh and blood of gods were blended into pills that could be easily consumed. The appearance of these pills reminded me of cream-colored pearls. Their name had long been the subject of many discussions but had finally been set as divine nourishment pills.

Making them was an easy task since the materials themselves held all the effect and didn't have to be changed. All I did was bring them into a shape that made consumption easier on the mind.

The bones, scales, and other such materials were stored again since now wasn't the time to be making weapons and other types of equipment.

The only left before me now was faith and a whole lot of it at that. The faith pearl I had condensed was around one meter in diameter and filled with glowing swirls of misty faith.

If I had to give an assessment of its quality I'd say the faith of Eclesias' oracle had been purer but what else would one expect from weaker gods. They were at the bottom of the divine food chain and had to take whatever they could get.

I could make some potions of clear mind with this but I had a better idea. I went to find Rose. She was squatting in a small herb garden and held a petit looking watering can. As her hand tipped forward ever so slightly a light drizzle was released and the herb seemed to stretch upward as if it wanted to touch the one watering it.

To tell the truth the herb didn't just seem like it tried to touch her but it truly did try to do so. Right now their movements were so minuscule that no one would notice unless he knew beforehand but if I were to attack her now...

Every plant in the area would attempt to stop me with everything they had. Their efforts would seem clumsy and suicidal but none of these plants had a consciousness. Their instinct to protect was subconscious and their actions would always be the simplest way to achieve their goal. In this case, they'd all grow and form a living barrier between Rose and anyone who had the intention of harming her.

Good thing I had no such thoughts.

I stood there for a while just admiring the tranquil view. Rose only noticed my presence at the edge of the garden when she set down her watering can and looked around. Being protected by nature at all times made her a little careless sometimes.

"Abel, what brings you here? Did you miss me?"

"We saw each other barely half a day ago. Can you really miss someone after such a short time?"

Rose pretended to pout adorably and went in for a hug. She pressed her face against my chest and tried to hide her blushing face.

"That was a boring meeting! I don't want to talk about that boring stuff."

"Then how about we do something fun now. During the fight with those gods, I got my hands on some faith. Since your treehouse is already a special existence I thought we might be able to make some improvements."

At my proposal, Rose smiled adorably and started hopping around. Her joy radiated out and the entire garden's flora began to wave along as if cheering.

Together, Rose and I moved up to the top of the treehouse where she placed her hand onto the bark and established a connection to the tree. I held the giant faith pearl and began to draw out the energy held inside.

With Rose acting as a conduit to feed the faith to the tree. There was no resistance whatsoever and the tree slowly became saturated with faith. The faith bonded with the remnant magic Rose's frequent presence had left in the tree and started to condense.

The tree was a living being but didn't yet have a conscious mind the faith could bond to. With no other choice, the faith began to form a consciousness within the tree to create a mind it could then bond to.

Faith-made minds were blank slates, they would learn from observing their surroundings. This was an opportunity for someone with a powerful mind like me to shape that newly formed mind.

As the mind was formed I reached out with mine and made contact. With Rose as the conduit, the resistance the mind should naturally put up wasn't there at all. I smoothly entered the tree's mind and started making changes.

I wiped away the pride that was inherently imprinted into a faith-made mind and replaced it with the desire to protect. To protect the oasis and its inhabitants and to spread the beauty of nature throughout this desolate realm.

To help it achieve this purpose I started to unload massive amounts of knowledge related to nature and other useful tidbits of knowledge into the mind. Rose's mind also reached out and crammed some additional gardening and nature knowledge in there.

After we had finished placing all that knowledge I allowed the remaining faith to bond to the newly formed mind and serve its purpose.

The faith bonded to the mind and a glowing radiance emerged from the tree as a god was born.
