Chapter 1 - A shelled girl and a boxed boy

Ash had three problems at the moment. The first and most annoying one was the silent creature sitting next to him. He could have sworn she was a statue if he hadn't see her walk in.

The second and nearly just as annoying problem was his parents. Though they smiled at him Ash had learned the language of smiles. Right now his parents were screaming "behave for a single day then you can go be an idiot"

Ash of course smiled back. Though he doubted his smile looked real or even close real. Glancing to his side she wasn't even trying to smile. She looked like a husk.

Looking closer again he could have sworn she was a statue. If it wasn't for her trembling lip he would have thought she snuck off. Biting her lip he could see the red that leaked out.

Looking foward again he watched the crowd. The third problem he was having was the question wouldn't stop. The cascading into his head bouncing around. No matter how hard he tried to stop them they wouldn't.

Right now he had a thousand plus questions about Lilly the girl next to him. 'stop looking at her!' But for the hundredth time already he looked over at her.

Tearing his eyes away he knew there was only an hour left of this. Yet again he considers running off. Looking outside through the roofs skylight he can see the first stars peak out. Emerging from behind the fluffy looking clouds.

Most everyone had already left. Only close family and friends remand. Looking around for Lillys parents he couldn't find her anywhere. In fact he actually recognized everyone around.

None of them were related to Lilly in any way. Now he had even more questions. As his father walked towards them she didn't even look at him. Her eyes glazed over like newly cut glass.

Maybe she was dead? No dead people can't blink. Ash smiled at his father. His legs ached from sitting all day. Worse was his back that felt horrible. Plus all the noise of the people and the heat of the day had left him with a headache.

If someone asked him he probably could produce well over a hundred complaints in the next five minutes. Nobody would ask him though.

"You have behaved well today son," Ash fights the urge to smile. His father rarely praised him. Right now he was trying to be angry though not happy about anything.

"You and your wife may leave. As we discussed you will be sharing a bed chamber. Please escort her there," Ash groans at the idea of having a complete stranger in his room.

"Thank you sir," Her voice sounded smooth and much like a singer's. Ash couldn't help but wonder if she did sing.

"I'm sorry for the selfish request but may I please have my own bed chamber beside my husbands," Ashs father looked taken back by her request. It seemed so out of the ordinary. 'Dammit no more questions,' instead more flooded his mind.

"Of course not. You will be sharing a bed chamber!" The icy anger in his father's voice sent shivers down his spine.

"I apologize for my selfish request then sir," Her voice sounded brittle. Honestly she acted looked and talked like she was brittle. Ash never would have guessed she would ask for anything like that.

Drawing herself up she waited Ash to stand up as well. Rolling his eyes Ash stood up and hurried away. She followed right behind him easily keeping up.

Annoyed Ash begins to run seeing if she can keep up with that to. Running in a long dress isn't easy so he figured she would end up falling behind. Instead she kept pace with him quite well.

"If your going to run please at least help me tear off part of my dress," She sounded winded but still her voice sounded like she sung.

"What are you talking about. A lady should never cut her dress. Who taught you!" Narrowing her eyes for a second before her face quickly returned to it's normal hallow state.

"Thank you for stopping," Her voice even sounds emotionless. Ash shivers in the warm night area confused and creeped out by her lack of emotion. Reached down for a sharp rock on the ground. She pulls the fabric at her knees forward.

Using the rock she tears a hole in the fabric. From the hole she continues until all of the fabric below her knees is on the ground. Spinning around with a fant smile she looks at the much more comfortable dress.

"Sorry I'm not the lady you think I should be," Ash scoffs with annoyance before running again. Pushing as hard as he can he just wants to get away from her. Despite this she runs after him keeping up with him quite well.

Ash had never seen a girl run or jump or over all act like Lilly was. It was annoying and endlessly annoying. Running towards one of the watch towers at the edge of the mansion. He knows it well and can climb it will ease.

He doubts she even knows how to climb. He can't help savior the victory he knows is coming. As soon as he gets to the tower he grabs the bricks and begins to pull himself up. Looking down he sees her climbing after him with determination in her eyes.

Now he was determined to get away from her. If he got away from her maybe all of his questions about her would disappear into the background. Climbing faster he got to the top to see the whole time she was just a few feet below him.

He could help but stare at her with wondering eyes. Pulling herself up she sat down on the roof of the tower and looked up the stars that dotted the sky. The determination in her eyes had fizzled out and her blank eyes had returned.

"You are not a lady," he glared at her. No girl would ever be able to run like that after him. He was faster than most not to mention he could beat all of the other guys in competitions. This girl must be a demon.

"Sorry," Her voice is emotionless again. "I'll leave if you wish," Slipping back down the side of the tower. Ash watches as she climbs down it. Once she gets to the bottom he expects her to head into the mansion. Instead she lays down beside the tower. Curling up into a tight ball.

Confusion fills Ash. He wasn't even annoyed at her now. She seemed so weak and just like a push over. He was probably just unconsciously running slower so she wouldn't get to far behind.

This whole marriage was stuiped any way. He was only sixteen why did he have to marry any way. Also why did he have to marry a complete weirdo who didn't even act like a lady. Why did he have to do anything at all.

Why didn't any of her family even come to his wedding. It seemed weird to him even. Yes his parents never attended his tournaments but that seemed normal. They atleast came to the wedding. 'I there just trying to ruin my life,' he growled.

The night air began to grow cold and more stars emerged. The moon appeared to. Currently it was a crescent. Looking down he saw her silhouette still curled up at the base of the tower. He got the impression that she wasn't asleep.

Annoyed he began to climb down the wall as quietly as possible. Hoping she wouldn't get up and follow him. Finally as his feet hit the ground he found her sitting and watching him. Know she was probably going to follow him he rolled his eyes at her.

Instead she looked down at her lap. She seemed so alone. So weak. Part of him wanted to protect her the other part wanted to feed her to the wolves that ruled the forest.

"I'm sorry if I ruined your life," instead of her hallow voice she sounded anxious. Yet again he was torn between scoffing and storming off or saying something to her and walking away calmly.

He decided to scoff and storm away. After about thirty feet though he glanced back expecting to be followed by her. Instead she was just sitting there mumbling to herself. Hadn't she only run after him half an hour ago all the way out here and up a tower.

Edging closer to see what she was saying. "idiot, loser, failure, mother and father were right. Worthless, if I died he wouldn't even notice," Suddenly she stood up and ran towards the forest without even notice Ash standing only a few feet away.

As she ran Ash wondered if he should follow her. She was right though he wouldn't care if she died. But he could feel his heart pounding in his chest as she ran away. Before he knew what he was doing he was running into the forest after her.
