So I ran, faster until my lungs hurt, and fire seemingly seared it's way up the back of my throat. Simplicity, it seemed, had gone out the window. My tears mingled with the rain as I turned around to witness my life being robbed of all joy and peace. The life in her eyes ebbed away and the blood dripping from the corner of her mouth was washed away by the droplets cascading from the sky. As she went limp in my arms and the fire burned higher up my throat. I wanted to throw up. At the very least, she deserved a burial, and it killed me that I had to keep running. As I made my way swiftly down the sidewalk I almost prayed I one of the passing cars would have mercy and swerve towards me at great speed. Hell was something but this was worse. The clouds thickened and a figure blocked my path.
"Not now," I whispered.
