Chapter 6 - Chapter 5

With our backs being pushed because of the force of the ride, I knew I was grinning. "You will love this!" I screamed as it sent us down into a loop that arched to the left and then into a downward spiral.

I heard her and others screaming joyfully as it was approaching a loop de loop. After the machine passed the first loop, it got stuck on the second loop. With glasses threatening to fall to the ground, and blood slowly rushing to our heads, I hoped the mechanics would fix the problem.

After a while, I could feel the blood rushing to my brain; I heard the machine creaking sounds, causing the front wheels to snap from the railing, making us look like a screaming, swinging pendulum. 'I'm not dying today, none of us are if I can help it.' I thought as I focused my hands to grow microscopic scales as I chopped the metal frame a few times before it fell to the Earth.

With my back now free, I pulled the second metal contraption away as it fell; with that, I let gravity take over as I descended toward the Earth. As the people became more defined, I turned invisible and grew my wings and flew to the roller coaster. As I soared up, removing the invisibility spell, I noticed that someone was falling, but instead of screaming in terror, the person turned into a gargoyle and flapped their wings to reduce their falling speed.

With the other gargoyle stopping in mid-flight, it stood in the air with its hands slowly raising, emerald eyes glowing; I noticed the Earth rising into pillars as they slowly held the rollercoaster in place. Quickly, I flew to the terrified passengers in the front end of the ride and removed the protective metal from the swinging death trap. "It will be okay, the other one and I are here to help you. Just calm down, please." I asked as the child nodded his head.

I cushioned the child by his armpits, careful not to scratch him with my claws as I flew down by a building. I repeated the process as hastily as I could. With a third of the ride empty, I moved onto my friend, who looked at me terrified. "Stay away from me!" She exclaimed and screamed as I removed her protective gear.

"Can't do that. Not unless you want to see your family again." I said, carrying her bridal-style as she relentlessly punched my nose. "Stop! It doesn't…" I stopped as I heard metal creaking from above us, "no!" I cried as I wrapped my wings around us and dived downward, performing a barrel roll. Upon nearing the ground, I stopped with a loud beat of my annexes, hovering a few inches from the pavement as I gently laid her down.

With my friend out of the way, I flew quickly, afraid that the wheels would break from their rails. "Hurry!" I heard the gargoyle scream tiredly as I neared the damaged machine.

As I went closer to the next person, the wheels holding the ride to the rails snapped. With a burst of my wings, I held onto the back of the rollercoaster and flapped my wings furiously. I felt it drop because of the pillars of rock and dirt returning to their original place.

"Cut them! Cut the sections with the empty seats, do it!" I screamed, beating my wings faster as the other gargoyle went to work on doing what I asked. Hearing it grunt, I heard what sounded like water and air slashing against steel.

Hearing it pant, I felt the weight of the ride get lighter, but only for a second as I felt a jerking motion. The element bending stone-being flew towards the end of the machine and gripped onto space beside me. "Can't you make a cushion of air?"

"Can't. Mentally exhausted." It spoke, pulling its tired muscles into helping me lower the rest of the ride with its screaming passengers. As we were nearing the ground, both of us gave our wings a final humongous flap. We used our tails to balance ourselves like kangaroos once we were on the ground, then we carefully dropped the butt of the ride.

With everyone on the ground safely, they removed their harnesses hastily and ran to their friends and family. I saw the child I rescued with his family as they approached us. They thanked us as we both nodded our heads and took to the skies. "So, any idea how we will turn back without the humans freaking out?" The gargoyle asked.

"I have an idea, but I'm not sure it'll work on other people… especially if they're from another clan."

"Let's try it, I mean, what do we have to lose?"

"How about exposing a millennia old mystical organization or being government lab rats?" I told it, nodding our heads in agreement as I touched its shoulders and focused on us becoming invisible. "Do you feel your body tingling?"

The gargoyle nodded its head as we calmly flew towards the nearest bathroom. Once on the ground, we folded our wings back and wrapped our tails around us before entering the restroom.

Upon opening the door to the men's room, we waited for a man to either enter or come out, as to make it seem that the door didn't move on its own. After waiting for a few minutes, a father and child pushed open the door as we carefully slid past them. We halted our movement, to see if anyone was in the stalls in case anyone heard us.

After checking, I let go of my companion as I used my body weight against it. "Thank you, if it weren't for you, I would have lost a friend, and families would lose their loved ones," I told it, nodding its head towards me as we both changed back into our human flesh. "So, element bender, why are you in my clans' territory?" I asked, moving away from the door.

"I have no business with youse Cameo. My choir class took a trip from Brooklyn to this place because of the hard work we put into our concerts. Names Randy, Randy Garvone." He said, taking out his hand for a shake. I stood there, looking at his eyes, and body language before I shook his hand.

"Kyle Kenway, I was… reborn into this world a few months ago. Thank you for not lying to me." I said, after shaking his hand, he walked past me and opened the door. And soon, I followed, with my hood up from the hoodie.

Walking through the crowded sea of people was easy for me; it was like I was a snake weaving through the grass. I found Amelia, thankfully, with her parents. "Kyle!" She exclaimed as she rushed to me, "what happened? How are you unharmed?"

"I'm fine, I don't know how but I'm fine," I said as she hugged me and looked me over. I looked over her shoulder and saw my people walking towards us, and they did not look pleased. "Excuse me, I need to talk to some people," I told her, walking up to the pissed off group.

I stopped with less than a foot from them. "Lad…" Catriona whispered in a snarling voice. "You almost let the mundane world know about us. Explain." She ordered, sending a shiver down my spine.

"I… I didn't want to die, and I also didn't want my friend or the other people to die. But at least I activated my stealth as I changed. Not like that other gargoyle, who helped." I told them.

The three elders looked at each other, unaware that the person in question was right behind them. I was about to speak up when he spoke.

"Excuse me, I'm Randy Garvone. My classmates and I are here on a school field trip. I sincerely mean it when I say I do not intentionally come into your territory. My leader does not know I'm here." The brown-haired teen said, giving the Queen a slight bow. Catriona looked at Ezekiel as he reached into a pouch hanging from his belt and brought out bright blue diamonds and gave them to Catriona.

"Listen up, lads…" She said, pulling Randy and I into forceful hugs, slipping two stones into our hands. "We will take these two Illusion Quartz, and we will fly to the outskirts of the park, I will speak an incantation, and that will wipe everyone's memories of the event and any evidence they have of our existence. All we need is to make sure they connect."

"That's good, but I need my friend to think I didn't fall to my death and get out unharmed," I told my leader as she gave me a second gem and told me to touch my friend with it with the mental image intact. She ordered Samuel to get Randy to a safe place where anyone would see him.

After listening to her instructions, we went our separate ways with our rocks intact. Turning my head before turning into an ally, I saw that Samuel had a firm grip on Randy. Stepping into the shadows of a wall, I became invisible, allowing for my feet and hands to turn into those of a gargoyle, while the rest of me remained human. Clinging to the wall with my face towards the bricks, I climbed.

When I reached the top of the building, I turned the rest of my being into a grotesque creature. The change was painless; it was the effect of rippling water, except for water, it was stone, magically produced from the amulet around my neck. With my form complete, I unsheathed wings and flew silently into the sky with the Illusion Quartz held between my blackened claws.

Even though four out of five were invisible, I could still tell where all of us were because of the talisman. Pinching the gemstone with my fingers, it rolled to my palm as it glowed. As it burned, a line shot out from where Samuel was and connected to mine. Once done, my gem shot out a path between Randy, hidden on the Superman ride, and Ezekiel.

I turned my clawed hand a little as the beam connected to Ezekiel's gem, and I established his connection to Randy's. Once the pentagram connected fully, time inside stopped. Rides, people, and birds, everything just stopped. But the world outside resumed.
