Chapter 8 - And the truth shall be revealed

Rex was surprised at what was happening before him. There stood a man he had never seen before and just came out of nowhere but what made him mad was how the man said that he the one that brought him to this world and Rex was the only one that knew about it as he hadn't told anyone about his little predicament.

He quickly formed his smack hands and lunged at the man but he disappeared.

"Oh my dear Rex. Is this really the best way this start our conversation. By fighting with each other" said the man again from behind Rex. He quickly turned around and tried to grab him but he disappeared again.

"Well I'm going to get some answers out of you. Now hold still, will you" as he frantically swung his hands around trying to catch him.

"And you think throwing hands will help you with that."

Rex then stopped and thought about the man and realized this was his chance to ge the answers he wanted. If what this man was saying was true, then he needed all the answers he could get.

Rex stopped swinging his fists and deactivated them and said "Ok, start spilling. If you are the one the sent here, you've got some explaining to do.

"Now, now. No need to be so hostile, Mr. Salazar.  I'm a friend of Mr Tennyson so that should give you all the proof that I'm friendly" said Paradox.

"You're a friend of Ben, so that must mean you're from his world I take it" said Rex as he deactivated his smack hands and began listening to the man but not letting his guard down.

"Indeed I am. I've known him for quiet some time now."

"Fine, if you're a friend of Ben's, I'll listen to what you have to say but it better be good" grunted Rex.

Paradox reappeared from behind the corner again and said "Good to know that your priorities are here. Now I understand you are frustrated and want answer but I am on a time schedule so I will try to answer them" said Paradox.

Rex glared at the man as he asked "Who the hell are you. And why did you send me here"

Professor Paradox smirked as he said "Well to put things simply, I am a time traveler."

Rex was surprised by what he said. If this was told this a long ago, he wouldn't have believed them. But he remembered the Van Kleiss managed to have Breach create portals through time and space. That and one of the Meta-nanties inside him was a power over time and space. His expression of annoyance and anger slightly changed to a relaxed manner as he said

"I see."

Paradox was surprised by his reactions as he said,

"I'm rather surprised by your calm manner, Mr. Salazar" as he stared at his watch again.

"Well considering what I've been through, its not as surprising to me as you'd think. Now answer my questions!!" said Rex as he yelled with the last words he said. "Why am I here. What for."

Paradox gained a smile on his face as he said "Its simple, my dear Rex. You are here to save this world" said Paradox

"I mean I kind of figured that but what do you mean. Save the world from what. Those Grimm things. Cause it looked like those other guys could take them down without my help" said Rex

"Yes, they can Rex. But there is something more to this world than meets the eye" said Paradox as he hazed at his watch again. "Something far more sinister" he said in a grave voice.

"Will you stop with the cryptic messaging. If you're not going to tell what it is then just send me back to my world. RIGHT NOW!!! yelled Rex, scaring Paradox from his gaze.

"Why would you want me to do that" he asked.

"Because You took me from my family and friends. I just got back my brother and I just cured my world from Evos and saved it. I thought that things would've died down but now I'm even farther away from my friends and family and I can't see them anymore. Plus I don't know when Van Kleiss or the Consortium will come back and I need to be there if that happens. So send me back right this instant" yelled Rex.

Paradox looked at the troubled boy and said "I understand that you're angry and you have ever right to be, my dear boy. But I'm afraid I can't."

Rex looked at the man in frustration saying "why not."

"Because I've already crossed a couple of boundaries and rules by sending you here and if I were to send you back it would cause much trouble for me and possibly this universe so leaving you here for the time being is the best course of action. Plus, are you really just going to abandon you friends and this world just like that without even helping it."

"Why does it need me. I mean that Beacon Academy is a place to teach warriors. I'm sure that that there's plenty of heros to come out of that place."

Paradox just pinched the bridge of his nose and said "Yes but not all of them are good people" as he looked out towards the town. "I am going to be honest with you Rex. This is a doomed world. It's a world full of discrimination, distrust, and criminals."

"What world isn't" said Rex in a annoyed manner.

"But it wasn't always like this. It was once a loving world, with peace and care in it, but its fallen from its once good graces. Now its become a plague. A sickness lives in this world and it needs a cure. And that cure is you, my boy. This world needs you, Rex Salazar" chanted the Professor.

Rex was surprised by Paradox's statement and as he thought more about what he said, tears began to fall down his cheeks again as he said.

"But, why? I mean, d-did you even consider about what transporting me to a world far from mine might do to me. To my friends and family back home."

Paradox grew a slight sad expression and said

"I did, young Salazar. I knew that doing so would make you mad and would make the others scared stiff and worried about you. But you have to understand, I had no other solution. You were the perfect person for this world."

Rex stopped his crying as he asked "What do you mean."

"Rex, my boy. I've watched your battles and I saw how much you've changed. You became more focused, mature, mostly, and you saved your entire world from a terrible virus. Now I knew that if I did take you away, it would be an issue. After all, Evos might've started popping out all over the world again and without you, Providence would've gone back to their original idea for curing Evos. But there was no other choice" said Paradox.

"What do you mean. What about Ben, he's your friend, why don't you ask him to do it" asked Rex.

"I did think about it, but Ben is a more busy boy than you might think. He has a lot more issues in his Universe than you. I know you hate me for doing this....."

"You're damn right I am. This isn't my world, so its not my problem" yelled Rex.

"You're right but tell me this" asked Paradox.

"What" said Rex

"Are you really going to abandon this world and its problems. I thought you were a hero."

"I am but I still don't know what I'm suppose to do here." asked Rex.

"Well like I said, there is more to this world than meets the eye. Let me tell you something Rex" as he took a seat on the edge of the roof as Rex joined him.

"As I said, This world was once a prosperous one, with great vegetation and great people. But it has sadly been demolished by a Plague. A plague that has sickened this world. And like any other plague, it starts from a source. And that source goes by the name of Salem.

"Salem, the witch?" asked Rex.

Paradox chuckled at the boys mention as he said

"Well I suppose that's a good way of mentioning it. But yes. She was once a lovely lady. A princess even, but darkness soon corrupted her and she became a monster. And the world only became more and more sinister because of what she left behind. She is the reason that Grimm are roaming the world. And it's up to you to stop her" said Paradox.

"Ok, so point the way to her and I'll go teach some manners" Said Rex as he stood up on the roof again and cracked his knuckles.

"Unfortunately, I can't do that, young Salazar" said Paradox as he stood up too.

Rex just stared at him in disbelief as he asked

"Why not, just point to where she is, knock some sense into and bam, I can go back home" said Rex.

Paradox just sighed at his reasoning.

"Like I said, You've matured but mostly. You're not ready to fight her yet" said Paradox.

Rex just formed his Smack Hands and said

"How am I not ready. You said you've seen my fights. So you should obviously tell that I can pack a punch."

Paradox sighed again and said

"You may have great strength, but that doesn't matter to her."

"What do you mean" Rex asked.

"She has great regeneration powers so even if you hit her with your strongest punch, she can just heal herself and get back up. A power you have too, but not as great as hers. She can get her face bashed in to where no one could identify her and not die and just simply grow that face back. A luxury you don't have if you don't get back your real strength" said Paradox.

"Real strength. The heck does that mean" asked Rex.

"You know the old saying, True strength lies within you and well..." stopped Paradox as he poked at Rex chest and said

"That couldn't apply more to you than right now."

Rex just began to think in question about what he meant by that "True strength lies within me. Within.....me

He then realized what he was saying as he said

"You mean the Meta-nanites."

He nodded in agreement.

"But I shut them down permanently. They can't be activated again" said Rex.

"Yes, you did shut them down but who says they shut down forever" said Paradox in a way that made he seem like he was trying to tell Rex something.

"What do you mean" said Rex, not understanding what he was talking about.

"Remember, my dear boy. Your parents and brother were the ones who made them and the ones that made the meta-nanites listen to you. But that doesn't mean they're gone for good. After all, not everything can always be permanent" said Paradox.

"What do you mean by that" questioned Rex.

"I'm saying that they could be reactivated again. How to reactivate them? Well that's for you to figure out. When you do those powers might come back and only then can you defeat Salem" said Paradox as he looked at his watch.

"My time is almost up. I've been here longer that I anticipated. Just work hard and fight to protect people. That is what you like to do, yes. Being a hero. Saving people, smashing some bad guys, as you use to say" said Paradox as he began to walk away until Rex grabbed his coat. "You can't leave. I still have questions. And can I ask anyone about who Salem is. ."

"I know you do but I must go. And no, you can't tell anyone about Salem. That time will pass soon. You just have to wait. I will hopefully return soon to help but until then, I believe you are looking for a teammate, am I right?"

Rex then remembered what he was suppose to do and knew that he couldn't leave Blake alone. He sighed in frustration with a hint of sadness in it as he looked at Paradox and said

"Can you at least tell my friends and brother that I'm alright and that we will see each other again. Please" said Rex as he tried not to cry.

The Professor turned around and held the boys shoulders and said

"Yes I will. Now you have work to do. You should start by going to the docks tomorrow night. That's where you'll find Ms Blake" said Paradox as a white light began showing up in front of the Professor.

"Farewell, Mr Salazar. Until we meet again" said Paradox as was about to vanish before saying "You are a hero, Rex. And this world needs one right now, so be their hero" finished Paradox as he vanished in a flash of light.

Rex shook his head and turned to look out towards the town. "This world needs me says that Professor. Well I guess that's all I can do for now."

Rex looked out towards the town as he said "Whoever you are, Salem, I'm coming for you and if I get my powers back, that regeneration of yours won't save you."

Rex donned his goggles and formed his wings and flew off towards the docks.

"Don't worry Blake. Rex Salazar is on his way" said Rex as he flew off towards the docks.
