"Sir they are here", a soldier wearing a black suit said crisply. When the general waved his hand, the soldier stepped aside and let the three inside the room.
It was Carl who entered the room first. He was a tall thin man in his thirties and walked with a slight limp in his left leg. He was followed by a man with broad shoulders and a bald head. Formerly a soldier, he was known in the mercenary business as the Falcon.
They were followed by Kaylee, a red-headed girl who appeared to be very nervous. Mathias looked at the soldier and the soldier nodded a yes.
Kaylee was not a mercenary but an expert in Psionic research. She had been put through weeks of brutal training to use with the Mirrors and all her previous runs have been smooth. But still, she was unsure of why they would require her help for these missions.
Mirrors are mech suits that are operated remotely by using a system called Mind-Melt. Both the mercenaries had been using such Mech suits for combat and for their skills were highly paid.
"Take your seats", the general barked at them. "We have confirmation of enemy combatants in the area. We move now or we will miss the chance to extract artifact forever"
A 3D projection opened up and in it showed a small hill; within the hill was a superstructure.
"This is the facility we have discovered. Your mission is to enter the facility and extract the objective..."
As he was explaining, Carl started yawning. Mathias threw a dirty look at him but continued. "... your vitals will be monitored by Ray here...", one of the senior technicians gave a nervous smile at the mercs.
The general kept talking for a few more minutes. Carl was almost asleep and tried his best not to fall flat on the ground. This was not the first time they were doing it. This was almost the sixth or seventh time, they have had these false flags. "The Legion is getting desperate every passing day!", he thought to himself.
Once the briefing ended, the Mercs and the Technicians headed to the control center from where the pilots operate their Mirrors. Before long, the mercenaries were suited up and connected with the Mind Melt system.
As the process started, in another area in the massive ship, a transport ship was deployed. It was on course to reach the superstructure on the planet surface in the next few minutes.
*Melt Complete!*
Carl opened his eyes and his vision was that of the Mechs.
Their mirrors are still in the process of being transported. He immediately checked his inventory and found his mech fully loaded with ammo. "Maybe this time I get to fire this baby!", he thought.
"All synced up?", Falcon asked over the comms. "Yes flawless", Carl replied.
".. yes...", said Kaylee. The others chuckled over the comms.
"All mechs, this is Ray! Bogies at here six....", Ray almost screamed through the comms.
