At the base of the mountain, Merlin and the others all watched the fruits of their labours as I tried to make a passage through. I tried and tried, but I barely even made a dent in the massive peak. I turned back to Merlin and saw how proud he looked, but I felt like I was just disappointing him and letting everyone down. After three more failed attempts, I finally turned to Merlin and asked him for help, and he was very taken aback.
Instead of just blasting the hole himself, Merlin told me to go with him up the mountain. Arthur turned to follow him like he usually did, but this time he told him to stay behind with everyone else. He asked me what Kevin had told me in regards to him, and I told him that he told everything that he knew. We walked for a bit before he told me that after the death of his last friend, Guinevere, he secluded himself in a cave for years.
He heard about the sorceress with powers to erase all painful memories, but he waited years before he went to her. While there, he chose to keep his memories, but was tricked into taking the pendant. He talked about Guinevere with such pride, but there was also an underlying sadness in his voice. He said, "Guinevere was an incredible queen because of her open mind and kind, just heart."
He said that I'd make an even better queen than she, but I reminded him that I was only a princess. He replied, "not yet," before taking out the pendant and handing it to me.
