The day started normally for her, woke up in a bad mood, had some cereal for breakfast and went to school at the correct time. This was her routine during the last ten years. She was fourteen now and the new school year had started. She hoped to get away from everybody's attention, especially Jasmine. That girl only brought trouble to Ellie's life. Why did she want this you might be thinking, well, Ellie was one of the prettiest girls in school, but there is always someone with better looks and a bigger ego, and that was Jasmine, that stupid blue eyed girl was not a bully, more of an inquisitor. She needed all the attention drawn to her and if Ellie got some, she would shout stuff like "Beaner" or "Dirty immigrant."
As those thoughts raced through her head she noticed that a kid that she had never seen before was sprinting down the halls and looking back as if someone was chasing after him. She looked at him, he looked strangely familiar, like they had met in an other time. But she was driven out of her thoughts as he crashed into the principle's office door. Everyone burst in laughter, and she giggled a bit to herself, but immediately felt guilty as the boy tried to hide himself even deeper into his hood.
In that moment the bell rang and she went to the first class of the school year, English, with the terrible, the feared and the desired by every hormone filled male teenager in the school: Mrs. Adams. That lady was snow white's evil clone. When you first look at her she seems sweet and nice but as you get to know her you see the kind of tyrant that she was in class. This thought made her smile, as she started imagining Mrs, Adams in the snow white classic movie, but instead of singing and skipping through the forest she started screaming and beating the evil queen's butt.
She suddenly heard the door creaking and looked up at who was so brave to interrupt one of Mrs. Adams' lectures. "And who might you be?" the teacher said in her signature military voice, "Hell-Hi, I'm Alex Smith, the new transfer student." He replied with a clearly nervous voice. "You're 15 minutes late, care to explain?" apparently the kid got part of his courage back and said "I'm sorry, I was with the principal getting my schedule and then got lost" Mrs. Adams looked at him in disbelief, "Didn't a student show you the school? she finally stated, "No miss, the principal told me to come here without any help." Mrs. Adams let him sit down and he sat next to me, he had a frown on his face, she could clearly understand why, he had embarrassed himself in front of the whole school. He looked real lonely and sad, she tried to get a better look out of him. but his messy brown hair covered his eyes. "Hey, I'm Ellie, nice to meet you" he turned to look at her and said "Hey, I'm Alex, well, I think you already know that" she giggled a bit and said: "Nice to meet you Alex, so, I hear you're new around here, what do you think of our humble school?" Alex got stiff and said nervously "It's really nice, people are welcoming and-" She cut him off "You don't have to lie, I know it sucks, and as long as you stay out of the spotlight you will be safe." Alex opened his mouth to reply, now with a smile on his face, but Mrs. Adams swooped into their conversation and said: "Well miss Garcia, I see you have befriended the new student, but since this is not break and you are clearly not invested in my class why don't you keep chatting outside?" She got angry immediately and said " of course, why didn't you say so earlier! I'm more than happy to go anywhere that's not this classroom. But for your information, you're not kicking me out, I'm leaving!" Alex just sat there looking at the two of them not daring to enter the crossed fire. The teacher looked at him in pure rage, "You too Mr. Smith" Alex left the room without a word following Ellie, which was fuming. "I'm sorry she kicked you out on your first day, she just gets on my nerves." Alex looked at her and swiped the hair from his face and took his hood off "Nah, it's okay... I was late and procrastinating anyways" she giggled "So new guy, why don't I show you around the school?"
Ellie had found a new friend. And as she showed him around school she kept laughing all the time at his stupid jokes and his awkwardness. She showed him the football field, the different classrooms and explained which class which. And they went together to the cafeteria when the bell rang for break. And as they sat, the person that Ellie feared so much appeared. "Hey brownie, you got a boyfriend?" Jasmine said as she sat with them " Jasmine, why don't you go and bother someone else?" Jasmine smiled at her and in the most passive agresive way she said "What are you gonna do about it beaner? You gonna pull a knife on me or something?" Ellie kept her look towards the table and said "I'm Colombian you know, not Mexican, also, what kind of person nowadays uses racist insults?" Jasmine laughed and responded "Oh so you're Colombian then, should I be scared Pablo Escobar kills me, are you going to sell me drugs?" she giggled and then looked at Alex "You know, your little girlfriend here is a looser, seriously, she doesn't have one friend in the world, you should sit with us, if you sit with her you're gonna loose any chance hanging out with the cool kids, come on!" Alex looked at her dead in the eye and Ellie could almost see a glimpse of silver in his eves, though it was probably the light. "Hey, go sit with her, I- I'll be fine" Alex then turned to her. "No thanks, I'm fine where I am." Jasmine looked at him in disgust and left the table.
Maybe he was not so bad after all.
