Chapter 9 - Realization II

Amerylla's pov

I had to babysit Drake for another day because I had to convince my sisters that I was not exactly lazying about. I have gone for over 6 job interviews for the rest of this week and all of them had called within hours to beautifully reject me.

I really feel that I have lost all my luck the day I met Blaze Lockheart, the day I tricked him and conveniently lost my purse as well.

Taking a deep breath, I tried to not feel down but I couldn't help it. Everything inside my head was screaming at me to accept his job offer but at the same time I knew he would make my life a living hell if I decided to work for him.

I understand that we started off on the wrong foot, but maybe I could try apologizing to him. I mean for scratching his car and then playing smart with him.

Or I could take that cleaning job I got, also the only job that offered to take me. Right now, I just couldn't imagine nor believe I might be cleaning toilets with my business administration skills.

Only problem is Jayda and Shayda will kill me if they ever found out. I wasn't keen on lying to them neither did I want to keep secrets.

I got my 150 dollars the moment I dropped Drake safely at home and considered perjaps starting a business. I mean I could raise 300 dollars for a start up capital and maybe I can start selling some home made cookies or something.

The next day was hell, I woke up feeling like I had been run over by a truck. My head felt so heavy I thought it would fall off my very lean shoulders. Perhaps Blaze Lockheart paid me a visit last night to beat me up whilst I was sleeping.

or I'm just tired.

I groaned slightly and decided to hit the stores early for ingredients for the start of my new business. When I finally arrived back home, I was so tired that I was tempted to start the business tomorrow. Still I dragged my feet and got down to work. Adding, mixing, kneading....i did every one of them on my own and with my very tired limbs.

Once the first batch was baked and allowed to cool, I got down to packaging them and stretching in between once in a while. My brow was flooded with beads of sweat and my back was literally killing me. I desperately wanted to take some rest once the fourth batch was done baking.

But there was still a lot of work to be done, including setting up the stand for the sale. I got to work on raising a small tent just outside my apartment. The owner of the complex was a sweet middle aged woman who seldom had any complaints, in fact I was sure she would be happy to see a self employed woman start a business.

She wouldn't mind at all.

Thirty minutes later, everything was set up and I was ready for a sale. And when my first customer, a high school boy stopped by my tent, I was so happy and excited that I gave him free lemonade as a gift.

Blaze stopped the high schooler as soon as he returned from purchasing a box of cookies. He took a sip of the lemonade and looked at the high schooler.

At least she makes decent lemonade.

"You can keep the cookies there", Blaze said a nudge of his head before handing 30 dollars to the high schooler. They had agreed that the high schooler pretended to buy from her and Blaze would pay him.

The high schooler smiled and then immediately left.

I was so excited because I had already sold to over 6 customers in a matter of minutes. This must be a miracle or the cookies may have turned out really wonderful.

Blaze paid each and every one of the 6 kids, smiling devilishly as he watched Amerylla's happy expression. The pile of cookies at his feet made him feel like a sinister person.

Smile harder because it makes the pain less bearable, he thought to himself.

"OMG, at this rate I might get sold out in 30 minutes tops", I smiled excitedly.

People in this neighbourhood must love home made cookies.

All too soon, every last one of the cookies were sold out and I happily packed up.

The next morning, I sold twice as much in an hour. At this point, I was considering taking a loan from a bank and setting up a factory.

I was so excited.

So I made triple the amount the next day but to my amazement, no one showed up. Not even a single soul. I was so confused that I didn't even notice that a red Lambho had parked just across from me.

Blaze Lockheart stepped out in all his glory and started walking towards me with a huge gift in his hand.

Why was he bringing me a gift?. Maybe to congratulate me on successfully setting up my business. But how did he know?.

I shrugged it off immediately preparing myself to gloat when he stopped in front of me.

He gave me a devilishly hot smirk before he slowly overturned the box in his hands.

One by one, I saw packets of cookies falling onto the side of tge sidewalk where I stood.

And it was no other type of cookies, other than my home made, baked with love cookies.

The surprise must have registered on my face because I saw him try to stiffle a laugh.

I don't even know how I survived that shock but I managed to make my face neutral once again.

"I hate to break it to you but your cookies are so bad that I had to bribe people to buy them", he said in a stunningly calm voice.

I blinked.

and then blinked again.

"No one asked you to do that. And I must say that I really appreciate your pity or whatever it is, but I don't need it", I said firmly even though my throat was clogged with hurt from seeing my hard work on the floor and unappreciated.

He took an involuntary step forward,

"it's not pity. It was a promise that I needed to fulfil. I intended to let you know that you will be better off taking my job offer and paying me what you owe me "

Tears stung my eyes at the thought of my efforts, all the time and the fact that I had been so tired whiles making the very cookies that were now scrunched under his feet.

I don't know how I did it, but I smiled...a genuine smile at that.

And then I headed towards the side of the tent and pulled out all the money from the sales since the first day.

"Well you can have all your money back", I said so calmly that I felt surprised at myself "and as for your job offer, I'm sorry but I'm still not interested"

Saying that, I grabbed his hand roughly and shoved the papers into them haphazardly and watched his face morph into a mixture of both surprise and anger.

And then without looking back, I walked out on him...
