My name is Lynn Davenport. My husband and I run a foster home for teenagers. We took the little knowledge we got before the major news outlets started to shut down and get overrun and started preparing. But before we get into that I should explain what we do.
I'm a lawyer and my husband is a top surgeon. We run a foster home with usually five to seven teenagers there at a time. We also help teens by helping them discuss their at home issues and direct them to the best people to fix said proablem. When your foster dad is beating you we connect you to the police and help them get what they need on the father while helping them find a better home. This also weeds out some of the bad homes, and while we weren't fixing the system, I like to think we were helping it.
In our farm we currently have four teenagers and two ten year olds, which is not normal for us, but one of our teenagers has twin brothers that we took in too in hopes of not separating them.
There's Amy, Chase, Parker, the twin's Luke and Jake, and their older sister Olivia. Then me and my husband Aiden. This was our group as we prepared to survive, but it didn't stay that way for long. We prepared a loop describing where we lived and how we were welcoming people and families to stay with us. We were far enough I'm the country we doubted we would run across many of the infected, but close enough to a few strip malls and stores to get supplies when needed.
This meant that we were welcoming people to come stay with us and we could help each other survive, but only if our rules were followed. We had the basic rules of a society.
No stealing food it will be rationed because we don't want to run out.
No injuring others severely or rape we need to stick together if we are to survive.
No murder we can't be killing our own.
The a few newer rules
No loud unnecessary noises we don't want to attract the infected
Light out after dark unless you'd inside with your blackout curtains drawn.
We set this playing on a loop on our radio station as we started preparations. We set up signs in town saying we would offer medical attention if you needed it as long as you obeyed our rules and very quickly took large amounts of medicine. We took food supplies and things such as baby formula in case we meet a family that needs it.
Next came the fortifications. We had a storm cellar allready which led to the barn. First we fortified the barn making it nearly impenetrable unless you climb the rope ladder and enter a code or you come through the storm cellar which we made only accessible through the house or barn. Then we stocked all of our food along with the formula clothes and blankets in the cellar. If we needed to we could ge tif our bit if we get swarmed we need it there. Then we carefully went around our property setting numerous boobs traps diversions and all type of fortifications around the barrier. If we seem over prepared it's because this is something that we've had discussions about over dinner many times. After a week everything was done. And just in time because we encountered our first infected person. Everyone close to us had fled so we had basically been alone but then all of the sudden we saw a small group, maybe five to ten of them walking twords us, and let me say it looked like something g out of the walking dead.
For farm work I got everyone these watches last Christmas where you touch it and the others vibrate. Now those are used as our alert system. As soon as parker saw the group he started spamming the bracelet scaring the rest of us. We ran to his post and saw the group and started preparing. Amy has a weak stomach so she stayed inside with the twins and it was just me, Aiden, Olivia, Parker, and Chase. We prepared our knives and stakes and just as we practices quickly and efficiently stabbed the infected through the head aiming for about where the middle brain is. This theory was supported by the zombie thing but mainly because the parasite takes residence in the brain, but it was just that, a theory. Luckily it was a damned good one or else we would have been out of luck.
It was quick effect and saddening but we quickly took out the infected and brought their bodies back to camp in a wheelbarrow to burn them. First we took photos of their faces and wrote down the date because we hoped if their family survived when it was over we could inform them that we had seen their loved ones.
Little did we know that we wouldn't always have the lixury if being able to catalogue them. Eventually there would just be to damn many.
