The kitten was still exactly where I had left her huddled to the side of the cage. I tried to pick her up, a little worried that she would scratch me and I was greatly relieved when she didn't. She felt so small in my palms and I could tell she didn't trust me. I didn't blame her one bit.
"Hi," I said to her. "I haven't decided a name for you yet but soon I will. Welcome to your new home." I laughed and dropped her back in the cage.
Suddenly I heard the lock turn and Allen poked his head in, "Hello beautiful." He said when he saw I was still awake. "I expected you to be fast asleep."
"Me too but I couldn't sleep."
"Ah, that is not surprising. You must have been worried about the love of your life."
"Don't push your luck, Allen."
