Bella's mouth fell open, she was astounded. Maybe because it was that she never thought about Altereds in the way that they may have families or have had. She never once considered the possibility.
Kieran laughed, "Don't look so surprised. It isn't that big a deal."
Finding her voice, she said, "I didn't know you had a sister."
"Well, you do now."
"What happened to her?" Bella's first assumption was she grew old and died but by the tone of Kieran's voice, she knew there was much more to it.
He took her hand and held it. "It is a long story, remind me to tell you another time." He smiled and winked at her and kissed the back of her palm. It was so unexpected that Bella blushed and looked away. "Now, that is a girly expression. Looks good on you."
