A few more weeks have passed, and the final two trumpets called. From now on it would just be the bowls containing the gods' wrath along with the three beasts. After that we would have to search for the rift in space and we would be safe in the original world of Leonor.
Tough it would be a slight problem in case the rift had already closed. But then I would just wait until someone opened a regular portal in one of the temple-like structures. Tough I doubted that I would be able to take everyone with me. In that case I would just let everyone behind except my direct friends and family.
Another problem that this approach would bring was that I would have no connection to that world myself. so, I would have to make deals with people so that I could have an anker to hold onto.
Not that I wouldn't be able to. But it would just be inconvenient to keep that person alive otherwise I would get send back to hell.
I sighed and stood up. Once again, I walked towards the entrance of the cave. There was something outside. I was sure of it.
It was a demon that was just as powerful as me, if not stronger. But apparently it couldn't bother to hide its presence. So, every demon within a few kilometres' radius knew where it was.
Still, it left me with no option but to hide my presence as much as I could. Demons liked to display their strength. And what better way to do that was to fight someone who was on an equal level with you.
If even for a moment it realised that I was here, then it would surely try to fight me. And if it did then I was not sure if I could keep everyone here safe.
I furrowed my brows and turned around. That demon outside was a true bother right now. I would not be able to hunt for the humans. Maybe I should eventually accept its challenge and try to drive it away. Tough it would be a huge risk. If I were to die right now, I would no longer be able to protect the humans, and all of this would be a waste of time.
I walked trough the main part of the cave. It was a large open area. I would even be able to fly trough this space. Due to the immense amount of room here I had to always keep some flames burning in every corner. Just in case a demon or other monster would escape my perception. Then it would be easier for the humans to know what was happening ahead of time.
Noah and Beatrice were handing out food in front of one of the largest fires. Some people turned their heads to me when they noticed that I approached. They were already warming up to me now. which was to be expected unless it was something personal, like with the man who killed me a few years back, and even the father of Zosimos. But now that the majority of the people here would no longer freeze up in fear it would be a lot easier to keep order.
As soon as I came close enough Beatrice kneeled down in front of me. While Noah kept performing the task of supplying the people with food.
Beatrice looked up just enough so our eyes would lock when she talked to me. "Greetings my lord. How can we be of service to you?"
I smiled. "No. I'm not here for a request. I just wanted to thank you two for your effort. And I would like you two to stay in charge of these people. Even If I can't be around at all times."
She looked at me in confusion. She was clearly grateful for my praise. But something about what I had said deeply unsettled her.
"You are not leaving, are you? Please, we need you here. don't leave us again."
She bowed so deep that her head almost hit the floor as she begged me to stay.
I carefully helped her up. "Don't worry. I am not planning on leaving anytime soon. It is just that there is no guarantee that I can always be around. If we eventually can't go through the rift of space, then I will have rouble with staying in the human realm and I will have to return to hell every now and then."
I glanced over the room. "But there is also something else. Come with me, I can't let the other humans hear this."
The few rules that my father had set up for me were as the following. Keep yourself safe. Don't harm others in any way unless it is necessary. And try to live a good life within these boundaries.
Because of this I would not go around and yell out that there was a potentially dangerous demon outside. Tough I would have preferred it that way. If the people were scared that meant that hey would do something about it. and at least keep themselves safe.
But the knowledge that I might fail to protect them and that they would die if that happened would surely leave some mental issues later on. So, I decided to just tell Noah and Beatrice so that they could act accordingly in case something was to happen.
Noah kept performing his task while I dragged Beatrice away to one of the side tunnels of the cave. Here I told her about the other demon that had been nearby for a few days now. But I reassured her that she could summon me again in case I were to lose.
Tough I did not tell her that I was not sure whether or not this would actually work. In hell I could not get summoned to a different part of hell. And I did not know if this world was already being accepted by hell.
Beatrice took a few deep breaths to calm herself down. She was even more determined to keep charge over the humans now that she knew how much I trusted her.
Now that I had explained most of what was going on outside, we parted ways again. she would return to her tasks and inform Noah about what I had told her. And I went and looked for Leonor.
It naturally did not take long for me to find her.
She looked up at me with a warry smile while she was trying to introduce Quetzalcoatl to Zosimos.
"What is it?" She asked with her gentle voice.
"Can I borrow your notebook? I want to write down how you can summon me. You know in case something happens while I happen to be in another realm."
