I managed to break off a part of the island with some brute force after which I lifted it with magic.
The people were all still scared of their surroundings and definitely did not like to potentially fall into the sea. But once I made some direct commands, none complained anymore.
The only one that liked the floating island was Quetzalcoatl who sat close to the edge and stared over the water. My father found this very concerning and had thus made an attempt to capture the bird so it would not fall of.
Seeing that the bird was almost ready to fight my father so it could have a proper lookout I just picked it up and placed it on one of my horns. That way I could personally make sure that the bird would not fall into the water while it had a clear view of its surroundings.
While I was carrying the piece of the island with the people on it. I made sure not to land on it myself and just proceeded to fly next to it. I was not sure how much I weight but given that I was four meters tall and had some extra body parts. It would probably be a lot.
After a few hours of flight, we finally got to see the mainland. It was not the town where I had found Noah again, or at least I assumed so. It was verry hard to tell what this place had been because a group of demons had decided to build their nests there.
I was pretty proud of myself that I had managed to carry this thing so far and landed the island on the ground. But still no one dared to leave. Not that I could blame them.
Tough there was not a demon in sight apart from me, the eggs themselves had spread some puling black veins of corruption through the entire area.
Allenya stared wide eyed at the sea of eggs in front of us. "How… how many are there?" she quietly muttered.
I just shrugged. "A couple hundred, I think. Tough I should be more worried about the mothers than the eggs. Even if they let their children kill each other once they hatch so only the strongest survive, the mothers will try to kill anything that that comes close to the nest if the eggs did not hatch yet."
Leonor was the first to step off the island and crouched down in front of one of the eggs. Unlike me, she had not seen demon nests before let alone eggs. So, she wanted to take a closer look at them.
"You said mothers. How many do you think there are?" she asked without looking up from the egg.
"Usually, three. A lot of divine things come in threes. For example, an angel will visit you three times if it wants to tell you something. So, we demons like to do the same, just to make fun of that."
I placed my foot on one of the eggs and crushed it. I was happy to see that the hatchling was still small and thus did not take up much of the egg's interior. I had seen some of the humans who were trapped in hell go through great lengths to steal some of the eggs since there was not much else that humans could eat there.
"I will go ahead and kill the mothers. The eggs should be fine for you guys to eat. Just make sure you don't accidentally eat a part of the baby. Well, unless you want to rot away from the inside out."
Flying over the nesting area I was surprised to see some Oni's trapped in the log like veins. The demons probably thought that it was funny that they resembled them so much. And had thus decided to keep them around.
It did not take long for me to find the mothers after this. In fact, they had already been moving in my direction. But not for the reason that I had suspected.
"Well, well, well. I guess it is our lucky day" The only female with wings flew up to my hight and slowly circled around me. "It has been a while since we saw a male that is this strong. And if I am not mistaken you are also verry young. How about you help us protect the eggs and then you can become the father of the next nest?"
I grinned from ear to ear and for a moment the three females thought that they had hit the jackpot. But their joyful expressions soon faded once I responded.
"No sorry. I kind of have to keep these ape descents alive and at the moment you three are the biggest threat to them. so, you must understand that I can't let you live."
The females immediately tried to drive me away. But I had already fought demons that were a lot worse than them.
They snarled, spit fire and bit, kicked and scratched. But in the end, they died protecting the eggs that they would abandon anyways. I could not understand what the point of it all was. But in my eyes, it was quite meaningless.
I turned around and flew back to the humans. when I came back, I thought that the way they distributed the eggs was quite funny.
Everyone had to prepare it themselves and had to use a different egg. That way if they screwed up and ended up dying it was their own fault and no one else would die because of their actions.
But right before I wanted to land, I saw a dark-haired man screaming at the dwarf. And for as far as I could see it, a fight would soon break out.
