Another unknown period of time had passed. I was almost certain at this point that time didn't work the same here as in any of the human realms.
I stayed away from the temple like structures and buildings that could be compared to that. I did not want to be tempted in entering other worlds for now.
Tough I thought that they were interesting, and I was eager to learn more about the different realms. I did nit want to be responsible for spreading the corruption any more than what I had already done.
I did not know what the intentions were of the entity that wanted to spread this disease over the worlds. And I did not want to be caught up in this mess once the angles came to clean up.
("I mean, they have to intervene eventually. Right?")
I was getting a little worried about why it took them so long before they would do something. ("How long will it take them to stop this? How could they just let this happen?")
I knew that the life of one man wouldn't be much of a concern for one of the gods. Afterall, people died almost all the time. But these were entire worlds that were being swallowed up. And it seems to be spreading much faster. Almost every day, I found more and more pieces of worlds that were scattered across the abyss. More and more zones that didn't blend in as well.
This should have at least attracted their attention.
I shrugged it off and decided to look for food.
It was a little harder for me to find some thing to eat compared to other demons.
When regular demons killed each other, they would have the flesh, as well as the soul of the other demon to feast on since there was no were else, they could go.
But when I killed a demon, I could only eat the body because the soul along with all its power would be absorbed into my mark.
Yes, I could survive purely on meat, but that didn't satisfy my desire for souls.
I smiled when I caught a familiar scent.
With high spirits I followed it to its source and immediately beheaded the human that was wandering around.
It was rare to find one around here that had such a healthy soul. Surely the demon that had decided that it owned this human would angrily show up later, but I did not let that bother me for now.
I immediately swallowed the soul.
However, when I stared to eat the body, I noticed something strange. ("Isn't this person rather small for an adult man?")
he was clearly human and nothing else seemed out of proportion. I sighed when I connected the dots.
This was why I didn't notice any extra spikes or thicker scales, even though I had killed countless of demons by now.
This man wasn't small. I had just grown a lot.
At this moment I was about twice the size of an adult human, far surpassing three meters.
I stood up and whipped some of the blood from my face. I was still waiting for the moment that I would be summoned back.
I started to worry. ("What if Beatrice died? Is there still a way for me to get back to that specific world if she doesn't summon me?")
But in the end, I could not help but doubt if it were still worth it. ("Were they still waiting for me or did they just not care?")
I looked around. Scanning the endless horizon for a certain demon that would attack me for eating its human. but I did not immediately see it, nor did I pick up the scent of the demon.
("Did they all want me gone or was it just Gert? Could I really judge them all for something only one did or should I count them as responsible for the fact that they had failed to stop him? No, they weren't there. They couldn't have known… but how can I know that for sure.?")
In the end I decided just to wait a little longer. If I was summoned back. then I would find this out on my own. If not. Then so be it.
I quickly prepared for battle when I finally saw a small dot on the horizon approaching at an amazing speed.
