Chapter 87 - CHAPTER 86: preparations

We continued our journey. I had no idea where we were going except that it was a place in the north.

The man that had survived the secret missions was often talking to the five broken humans and my friends during that time.

I guess that he could pick them out of the crowd due to their behaviour around me. unlike the others, they did not mind coming close. And did not look as anxious whenever I looked in their direction. This is why he did not find Hakim's girlfriend Sarah. She hadn't known me that long and so she perfectly blended in with the other people.

But since I could not come close to the caravans; I could not hear what he was saying to them over the sound of other people talking. Though they just walked away most of the time.

But so now and then Beatrice, Hakim or Gert stayed. I had the feeling that I was a little overreacting, but I send the man that I corrupted that was apparently named Carl, to try and eavesdrop.

I was originally planning on completely taking over his body, but he did as I asked right away so it wasn't necessary.

But the man immediately stopped the conversation as soon as he noticed that Carl was listening.

I did not try it again after that. I did not trust Carl that much and I was not sure if he would tell what I had been doing as soon as he felt like he had some safety around someone who was known for actively fighting demons.

After this I decided to just prepare for the worst and leave it be afterwards.

I waited until nightfall when the carriages would stop. There were no tracks left due to the use of magic. so that it would be harder for the demons to find us when they leave the stone City.

The dwarf was as usual tacking care of the horses. I silently I walked over to him, while still being warry of my surroundings. I did not want the man to overhear us.

The horses became scared when I got close, but they were trained to not immediately run away. Therefore, it wasn't that much of a deal except for the noise that I was obviously trying to avoid.

The dwarf noticed the odd behaviour of the horses and turned around.

"Hello Gustave. What is it?"

"Can you maybe write down how you summoned me? I want more people to know how to do it. Just in case something goes wrong."

"Sure." the dwarf said with a smile and he immediately went back inside his carriage. After some time, he came back with a pen and some paper.

I watched as he wrote down the steps and the symbols that needed to be used. He explained that a sacrifice or a deal wasn't really necessary for me to enter this world, because I already had a connection with it.

When I sked him about the symbols, he answered that both my names were translated to those symbols along with some that were supposed to help me move between realms.

Even without the translations, the steps were five pages long. I thanked him when he was finished and walked away from the carriages.

The real reason why wanted the steps to summon me was because that man probably wanted to kill me. I figured that he felt a lot of shame due to his failed mission and he wanted to make up for that by killing the demon that was, in his eyes, planning something that involved the people here.

I wasn't actually planning something, and only wanted those I cared about to be safe. But he couldn't know that. Therefore, he would try to kill me anyway.

I knew that unless something intervened, I would only be sent back to hell. However, I needed a way to come back. the man would probably keep an eye on the dwarf and those that had a close connection with me so I couldn't count on them to bring me back.

But the chance that I got killed wasn't that big to begin with. This was just a fallback for the worst-case scenario.

The best idea that I had now was that I would hand it over to one of the broken humans and order that one to flee as soon as I got killed. And when that human was far enough to not be disrupted, he or she would summon me again.

I hoped that Beatrice and Hakim were only looking for information, because I trusted them the most. But I decided not to give it to them yet because if something happened with the papers I micht not be able to return to this world, so I needed to know for sure if they were truly loyal.
