Asher looked at the three. All of them were decently tall, and decently athletic. They were bold, bold enough that they had fought the Lake Kids several times. All of them had top-of-the-line fishing poles rising from unzipped portions of their bags.
Rich, uncaring, dumb, popular, bullies. Asher thought, narrowing his eyes.
"Hello kids," Adah greeted with a smile and wave. "Whatd'ya doing here?"
"Fishing," declared Tobias. He was the only boy of the three. He was tall, had skin tan only by way of constant sunbathing, and was dating Grace.
Cain locked eyes with Jasmine, his cousin. She had dark skin and curly hair which was dyed pink at the ends, which matched with the floral skirt she wore. Like him, she wore a vest, though hers was white with pink frills around the edges and pink zippers too.
Grace stepped forwards, pushing PJ aside as she stepped onto the muddy shore. She was the stereotypical blonde, and thats what made PJ hate her. PJ began to turn to wipe the ground with her makeup-painted face, but Miriam softly laid a hand on her shoulder.
"She isn't worth it," Miriam promised, her green eyes sparkling.
PJ groaned and shoved her hands in her pockets. "One day," she vengefully whispered to herself.
The other two stepped forwards. "You know, this spot is only big enough for three people. I don't think we want to split it today," Grace remarked.
"Asher, Miriam," Adah muttered. The two didn't need any more encouragement. They scuttled back to the vehicles. Adah knew if there was going to be a fight, they'd most likely injure themselves rather than get injured, and besides, this way felt more fair.
"First comes, first served," Cain told Grace, spinning around to face her.
"Hmmm. No. The strongest always wins," Grace said.
All of them were locking eyes, now choosing their opponents. Cain against Grace, Adah against Tobias, and PJ against Jasmine.
"Let's see who's the strongest then," Cain said. He put his hands on her shoulders and used one leg to scoop her legs out from under her. The two toppled to the ground, rolling in the mud.
Tobias made the first move against Adah, grabbing both of her arms. Adah snapped her arms outwards and then kneed the boy in the groin. He bent over and she ran up behind him and leaped onto him, bringing him down.
Meanwhile, PJ was in trouble. She was backed up to an area where the beach dropped off into three foot deep pond water. Cain abandoned hospital previous opponent and ran over to fight against his cousin.
He wrapped his arms around her and she struggled until he threw her into the pond water as if she was as light as a bag of feathers.
"Sorry," Cain mercifully called out.
He felt a pain in his back, and saw that Grace was behind him again. But PJ was ready to help. She kicked one of the blonde girl's knees and then pushed her off balance. Cain ceased the girl by her skinny legs and tossed her into the pond, and she almost collided with Jasmine who was dredging back to shore.
A couple meters away was Adah. She had successfully kept Tobias in a chokehold for a couple of minutes.
Watching it all was Asher and Miriam. Asher bitterly regretted not bringing popcorn, though he did have some goldfish in his bag to supplement his preferred snack.
"Adah, I think that's enough," Cain said.
Adah nodded and gave Tobias a sucker punch to the face for good measure.
"On second thought…" Cain started, picking up his fishing pole. "I think that it's getting too hot for fishing."
He hopped onto the back of the four wheeler and after a minute they began to drive off. Asher's head was swarming with questions - he saw how easily Cain had won that fight.
"Wow, that was great, Cain!" Adah shouted over the wind, taking one hand off of the breaks so that Cain could high-five him.
"Thanks," he replied, slapping her hand. "I have no idea how that happened!"
When they got back they gathered around the firepit.
"You were an MVP. You saved my ass!" PJ exclaimed.
Cain blushed. "Really, I didn't do much."
"Well, this proves something," Asher muttered, loud enough that everyone could hear him. "That it is built to enhance in the case of a crash."
"What do you mean?" Cain asked.
"I mean what it has enhanced all of your senses, Cain. From night vision to strength. Wait, strength isn't a sense, but you get my drift," Asher told him.
"I think I do," Cain said. "How would it take such a short period of time though?"
Asher shook his head. "I don't know. Let's write it off as effects of it being advanced technology."
"Well, now that we know what this can do, can I..?" Cain slid one of his thumbs under the bracelet.
"Not yet. I think your body might react negatively, as your system hasn't fully balanced it out yet. I'm still going to stay beside the 1 week estimate," Asher said.
"Alright," Cain said. "That better not change."
"It might, as more information comes along…" Asher warned him.
"How does someone suddenly get stronger?" Adah asked.
"Did you know that humans can lift five hundred pounds? Almost any single human. But we don't, because our bodies restrict us from doing so as it would hurt us. When we have adrenaline, that tends to sidestep it," Asher told her. "So, in short, Cain's adrenaline-gate is lower than ours."
"Ow. My brain hurts now," Adah complained.
"You're lucky I didn't give you the full lecture," Asher commented.
