Chapter 10 - Momentary Bliss

In the middle of the night the wind had picked up even more and raised me from my sleep. I blinked around groggily and saw out the window it was snowing quite a lot, it blew around wildly. I sat up and smiled as when I saw Aiden asleep on the couch. Suddenly the lights outside went out and what little light there was inside was gone. The wind and snow had knocked the power out. I sat there in the dark with my heart rate rising afraid to move. In front of me something darker than the room rose from in front of the bed. My breathing stopped as it got larger and glowing red eyes formed, casting red hues on the blanket. Strangely as quick as it appeared it vanished. I jumped out of the bed and scurried to the couch, lucky I hadn't hit something or knocked myself out. Once I got to the couch I flung myself onto it and onto Aiden causing him to grunt.

"Ungh"

"Sorry" I whispered.

"Freya? Are you alright?" I wrapped my arms around him unsure of what to say but decided it was best not to mention the form.

"The power went out." He moved me a little so he could halfway sit up and look around.

"So it has. Ok stay right there I'm gonna grab some candles, just don't move." I climbed off so he could get up, and cowered in the corner of the couch as he rummaged around. Before any serious panic could set back in Aiden came back and started setting things on the coffee table. My eyes had adjusted to the dark allowing me to see certain things a little better. He was bending over the table lighting candles wearing a drop armhole tank top and low slung pajama pants, the combination was my kryptonite. My brain shut down and heat flooded my body and cheeks. Aiden finished lighting the candles and took a spot next to me taking my hands and rubbing them between his. "Are you doing ok angel?"

"I am now. I've just never been a huge fan of complete darkness."

"Well I'm here now. I won't let anything hurt you." His reassurance struck a cord with me brining me back to what happened in front of the bed. He shifted so we were both lying down, cocooning me in his embrace. I fell back to sleep with the weight of his arms and the feeling of his chin resting on the top pf my head. My breathing soon slowed and synced with his and I was out. As the sun was rising I had woken up again but Aiden was still asleep. I took the time to really look at him. The way the corner of his eyes tilted down by his nose, the little creases in the corner of his lips, his high cheekbones. I started gently running my fingertips over the planes of his face, as I got to his lips he stirred opening his eyes halfway and smiling sleepily. Aiden kissed my fingertips and raised his hand to run it through my hair which had created a curtain between us and the rest of the world. Drawing me in close he sighed and shut his eyes. "It's to early let's go back to sleep." I smiled and closed my eyes enjoying the moment in turn, but sleep was nowhere to be found.

"But I'm awake. I can't go back to sleep" I whispered but he didn't even flutter an eyelid, his chest rose and fell slowly I knew he was back to sleep. I laid there wondering what to do, then it came to me. I would make him breakfast. Unfortunately how I was positioned was a little problematic. If I tried to get up Aiden surely would have woken up.

"What's causing that look on your beautiful face?" I looked at him in surprise as he rubbed my cheek.

"Oh! I'm so sorry if I woke you up."

"It's ok. What were you thinking about?"

"Breakfast actually."

"Are you hungry?"

"A little but more precisely I was thinking about making you breakfast. I just didn't want to wake you."

"That's probably for the best seeing is we need to go grocery shopping."

"Oh ok." I couldn't help but like the way he said we.

"Should we get up then? We can go get breakfast then go to the store. How does that sound?"

"Sounds great. I'll get up then." I swung my leg over and moved to climb off the couch but Aiden pulled me down on top of him and held me.

"I like this" I squirmed trying to move so he wouldn't get hurt.

"Come on I don't want to crush you." He snorted at my comment and held me closer.

"You won't crush me and even if you did at least I died happy but I'll let you go if it makes you more comfortable." I let me up and I smiled over my shoulder at him as I walked away. After getting dressed and starting to leave the bathroom I witnessed a wonderful sight. Aiden had his back to me wearing only a pair of well fitting jeans leaving his back unobscured. I leaned against the door frame as he put a shirt on and turned. He started to put on his flannel and roll the cuffs up and addressed me.

"You ready?" I was actually pretty excited for this mini date as silly as it sounded, it was a small thing but it meant the world.

"Absolutely let's go." We got in the truck and started our day out doing errands stopping first to eat then heading farther down the street to a little grocery store. I jogged ahead grabbing a cart and hopping on the back of it as it rolled for a second until Aiden came up behind me and started pushing. So I just hung on to the back as he pushed from behind, enjoying our time together.
