Chapter 4 - Chapter 3

And finally the moment came. He stood in front of a door and not even he himself was sure what to expect on the other side. Inhaling and exhaling deeply he gripped the doorknob slowly tilting it down hearing a satisfying click as the latch bolt slid from its place. "Here goes nothing…"

"Freeze! Hands where I can see them!" he bolted through the door his gun pointed everywhere. His eyes scanned the small room for any sign of potential danger, landing on the darkest corner of it. A chair was place in the darkness. And it wasn't empty. Never letting the chair leave his sight, he made a slow jump to a light switch and flipped it on. And screamed.

A woman stared at him blankly a small smile playing on her lips. No, not at him; she just stared in front of her, nowhere in particular. And that would all be fairly normal if it wasn't for the ropes tightly securing her wrists and ankles in place. But the highlight of the body was a thin red line that flowed from a left corner of her mouth, creating a crimson red pathway down her throat. Something in his mind triggered and he recognized the woman. The last one to kill. The president.

Suddenly he felt like vomiting. Of course he's been to crime scenes before but something about this one was making him all nauseous. Maybe it was a sweet smell coming from the room on his left or maybe it was a small woman that suddenly came running in and stopping in front of him wearing a sick smile while saying: "Oh, I see you found my guest," like it's the most everyday thing to have a dead body in your apartment. He looked at the woman head to toe, she was dressed nothing like he would have expected; her clothes were relatively normal, some black leggings paired with a black T-shirt. And then things got weird; an apron tied around her waist, a cooking hat on her head and a pair of bright pink crocks was certainly not what he expected a killer to look like. So caught up in her appearance he completely forgot the sole reason he was in fact there in her apartment. She moved and he finally snapped out of his trance, aiming his gun at her again. "Wow, chill dude! I just want to sit down, I'm not going to do anything." She quickly raised her hands almost mockingly low and stepped back sitting on a rolling chair behind her. He suddenly felt weird as she sighed and looked down at his feet. What made him so uneasy was the fact that he had her head at the gun point, but she still acted like everything was fine. "You do realize that you still have safety switched on right?" Mentally he cursed himself for being so careless, as he switched the safety off. And that was the moment he saw a glint of discontent in her eyes. Even still, it wasn't panic or shock – she was simply showcasing mild irritation, the very slightest hint of alarm. He smirked slightly and said: "Hello there. I am detective Theo Byrne from police CSU. I'm here to arrest you until the court decides on what to do with you next. But before we proceed with the standard procedure I'd like to ask you a few questions." She just nodded and he continued asking her the question he wanted to ask since the day he heard of the Red Lips case. Now he knew the answer but still decided on asking a question: "Why in the world are you murdering those people?" She rotated around in her chair, twirling her hair around her fingers. "Because it's fun!" He scoffed: "What are you, a kid? That's why you do what's fun? If you are, this is not the type of fun you should be having. Grow up, I'm sure you are not young anymore." She stopped her endless spinning and looked him dead in the eye as she stood up and walked towards him. "Growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional darling. I do what I want, how I want, with reasons that I know. Everything I do is planned. And by the way it's quite sad seeing as you'll only be able to live through one of those two phases. Bye bye pretty boy." The last thing he saw before drifting into unconsciousness, his nose filling with luscious smell lingering in the air, were her cherry red lips pressing on top of other woman's head leaving a heart-like shape of red colour.
