Chapter 79 - Lake Huron

"FIND HER you fools!" Mr. Williams screamed. "Stop worrying about me, I am fine. Find her NOW!" The attack team left their boss in the mangled car. He looked at his body. DAMN! Again, really? He couldn't worry about his body right now. He needed to find her and clean up this mess.

He opened up his phone and searched for: 'Cleaners'.

"Yes Boss?"

"I want you to get here now."

He hung up the phone and stepped out of the wreck. If he had been human he would have been bleeding profusely. The truck hit the limousine on the side he was sitting. He doubt he would even be alive. However, he was not human and he was alive and angry. She had slipped through his fingers, AGAIN.

He took in a deep breath his anger began to consume him. The anger sated his hunger. Somebody was going to die. Many people were going to die.

His phone began to ring. He answered it. "Boss they have been spotted, they are headed east, towards the lake."

"Get a car to pick me up and don't lose them. Whatever you do, don't lose her."

He hung up the phone and didn't have to wait long for his ride to come. His people knew better than to make him wait.

Ania was headed East, she didn't know where, but she had to get away. Emmeline's heart was beating furiously. She kept the pressure on Gregory's wounds, she didn't know what else do do.

"Gregory, dear. Please stay with me." Emmeline shook him gently. "Please Gregory stay with me."

Gregory opened his eyes and weak smile appeared on his face. "Emmy. Its okay. I'm not afraid to die...again." Gregory attempted to joke, but his laughter came out more as a gurgle. "I'm sorry I couldn't be strong enough."

"Emmy, I was thinking we could abandon this car?" Ania spoke maintaining her eyes on the road.

"Gregory, dear. Do you think you could hobble along if Ania and I supported you?" Emmeline asked.

"Mm." Gregory barely managed.

"Ania, whatever we do we are going to have to make it quick. I think we are going to have to make it happen sooner rather than later." Emmeline spoke her tone fast. She was anxious. When would this nightmare be over?

"I think we are almost somewhere. We have to be near the lake, right?"

"I'm not sure Ania," Emmeline had only been to the lake once, and it was a very long time ago.

"Apparently we are in a lake town. Its on Lake Huron. Hopefully we can figure something out. Ania nodded.

They abandoned their car and then Ania and Emmeline split up temporarily. They wanted to try and fool their followers into the wrong direction. Hopefully it would buy them some time. Ania caught up to Gregory and Emmeline.

Emmeline was thankful it was already dark. She hoped this would be enough cover to give them even more time.

They really had no true plan. They were just running. Maybe they could cross the river and escape over into Canada?

Both Emmeline and Ania were looking around. There had to be something around here something that would help. They continued to walk albeit slowly. Gregory was having more difficulties the longer they walked. Maybe they should have stayed in the car?

Emmeline supported Gregory while Ania ran ahead to scout out different areas. She came back breathless, "There is a boat dock. One of the boats still has the keys left in it."

Emmeline didn't care that they were going to steal it. Their lives depended on it. Ania came next to Gregory and supported his opposite side. With the two of them assisting their wounded comrade they made it slower than Emmeline would have liked.

They maneuvered Gregory into the boat. It was a small fishing boat with a small motor. If they could get over to Canada in the cover of darkness they may be safe.

Ania turned the key into the ignition and the boat roared to life. Ania cursed, she hadn't expect that little boat to make such a loud noise.

In the distance a group of men and their leader were near the SUV searching for the missing people. When they heard a boat roar to life the boss spoke. "I think it is a little too late to be fishing." The man hissed and began to walk toward the sound of the boat. As he moved in that direction, he picked up the smell of blood. He rolled his eyes in the back of his head and moaned.

"Get her. I want her NOW!"

Emmeline heard screaming from the land. Her heart stank. She could see the vague movements of a group of people. They had already found them? She looked at the land not too far away from their reach they needed extra time.

"Let me." Cough "Let me distract them."

"NO!" Emmeline shouted.

"I'm a dead man anyway," Gregory coughed up blood. "Maybe this very reason is why I could never cross the veil. My unfinished business to protect you, to protect you both."

Emmeline nodded tears falling down her face. Ania and Emmeline both said quick goodbyes and hugged him. He would lead the boat away from them while the two ladies held each others hands and jumped ship.
