As Erin got further from the house, she became less concerned with her steps and making noise. She was far enough away now that it wouldn't matter. They shouldn't be able to hear her.
Erin noticed the wrought Iron fencing that surrounded the estate of the Octagon House. She walked along it, making sure to head away from the main entrance of the estate. Erin searched quickly until she found what she was looking for; a way out. She looked at the ivy that climbed up the fence. She could definitely work with this. She would use the ivy to make her escape.
Erin quickly began to climb the ivy, thankful for her athleticism and the indoor rock climbing she does every winter. As Erin moved up the ivy she gripped one area but the ivy separated from the fence. She quickly moved her hand to another spot, before she would lose her balance and fall.
At the top of the fence Erin took a deep breath. She gripped the top railing to put her feet loser to the ground and then she hopped down to the ground. She didn't roll her ankle, thank goodness. The climb overall had been successful.
As Erin moved further way from the house and further from the danger of the potential kidnappers the more she felt her body call out in pain to her. She faltered a step, but she couldn't give up now. She had to get away.
Erin did her best to ignore the pain and continued her journey to safety. She wasn't far from the street and Erin stopped for a moment. She looked left and right. Left headed out of town and right headed into town. Should she try to head to a police station? She reached in her pocket to grab her phone. Her face became white, it wasn't there? Erin turned around and looked at the gate. It probably fell out when she jumped off the fence. Should she go back and look for it?
Erin drummed her fingers on her thigh as she tried to think of what to do. They surely knew that she was gone now and every second of every minute was precious. She decided to head into town.
Erin recalled that not too far away there was a speed trap. She had nearly gotten caught by it, that is until she knew the cop was always there. She would head that way, maybe just maybe the cop was sitting there.
The speed trap was a little under a mile away from the house. Erin began to run, to sprint. She had to get there. If she made it to the police officer she would be safe. She would be protected. She ignored her body calling out to her in pain because she knew she could rest when she made it to safety.
Erin came over the hill and she noticed the patrol car sitting hidden by a tree near the road. A wide grin passed on her face. She had never been so happy to see a police officer as she was at this time. She ran towards the cop car.
Erin knocked on the window, as she waited for the police officer to roll it down. She peered at her reflection in the mirror. 'I look like a crazy person' she said to herself. Her hair was a tangled mess with twigs and a leaf or two. Her face, arms and legs had a couple of cuts from running through the bramble. Hopefully he would believe her, she had to do whatever was necessary to make him believe her.
"Yes, can I help you?" The police officer said when he rolled down the window. His eyes crossed over her appearance.
Erin was sure that his face displayed concern. She prayed that he would believe her and quick!
Erin nodded and looked quickly behind her to see if they were there, they weren't, "Yes, some people are after me, they wanted to kidnap me." Erin began to cry, her tears at first were a ploy, but after a couple of seconds they became real.
All the adrenaline she used to get away made her body crash. She felt all the bumps and bruises a hundred fold. She really was going to be kidnapped by those crazy people. But she was safe now, right? Safe.
He opened the door slowly as he didn't want to make any sudden movement scarring the little rabbit in front of him.
Erin looked into his eyes, "please help me."
"Where are the kidnappers?" He asked, concern lacing his voice. Erin could also pick up the anger at her 'almost' kidnappers. The officer appeared to believe her.
Erin pointed toward the direction of the Octagon House. "I don't know if they discovered if I am missing yet. They were last at the Octagon House."
Erin looked toward the road, a blazing red mustang pulled out of the gates and was headed her way.
The officer noticed the girls breathing speeding up, "Is that them?"
"I think, I'm pretty sure." Erin nodded and gulped. She was safe, safe in the police cruiser. She ducked low so they wouldn't see her. But she wasn't so lucky. She could hear the rumbling of the car pull up near the police cruiser.
The officer looked at the girl. "I am going to get out, you stay here. They can't get you, you are safe."
Erin nodded.
She peaked her head high enough so she could get an idea of what was happening.
The police officer stepped out of the car and approached the driver of the Mustang. The officer stopped moving. Erin noticed a woman's hands on his forearm.
She heard another door open, it had to be the passengers side door. She didn't have a good vantage point of that door.
Erin became wide eyed as the door of the police cruiser opened, Hattie was staring at her.
Erin noticed that Hattie was neither mad nor angry. She just opened the door...but...it was locked? Right? She was sure it had been locked by the police officer. She was supposed to be safe. She looked over for the Police Officer and he stood in front of Liz chatting with her.
She was safe...what happened? He was supposed to have saved her!?
