SHE couldn't believe her eyes. She stood. She wept.
Joey entered the room one step at a time, allowing the pain to flow through her like her tears did.
The room was dusty.
She could barely breathe. She looked around the room, trying very hard to remember anything. Anything at all. But surprisingly, she couldn't remember anything except the fact that this was her sister's room. Rachel.
She began to sing again, approaching the broad window and trying hard to remember Rachel. Opening the dusty curtain, she stared beyond, still singing. Memories of Rachel were the only thing she longed for. She stayed in the room for almost throughout the day.
Her father raped her elder sister.
And her.
She kept staring.
Meanwhile, After about 30 minutes of no word,Paschal had to ask what was going on because, he was lost. "Please,I need to know what's happening here?" "You don't need to know anything"Max resigned. Mariam followed suit and went to her room. Davidson left immediately for the lounge and Wilson decided to take the luggages inside, leaving only Paschal and Chloe in the corridor.
"She's my sister" Chloe answered Paschal's hanging question. Paschal focused his gaze on hers, listening.
"My sister, Rachel was the first born and I didn't even realize it" she continued; "well now I know she's dead all because of dad. He raped her and I think he also did that to sister Joey, don't you think so?" She asked Paschal then continued; "well, it's nice meeting you Mr Paschal,I'm Chloe" she blushed.
"What song were y'all singing?" Paschal asked not withstanding.
"Oh,Rachel always sang that song to put me to sleep. Yes,she always. I don't know how Joey and Ma learnt the song but I knew it a long time ago" she paused taking in the memory now. "Rachel was my best friend"she concluded.
"How so?"
"She always fed me,played with me, taught me my assignments, bathed me and put me to bed. Well, she taught me so many songs, you see? I just don't know why father would assault her. Do you?" She blinked.
Paschal thought about what she said; "perhaps that's why Joey's so angry about what you're father did. 'cos from what you've said, she's too good to die"
"Do you think so?"
"Where do you think Joey would be?" He discarded her question.
"I'm afraid I don't really know. But she'll soon be back in her room when she feels to---" Chloe got interrupted by her calling mother. She was confused about who to finish with first.
"It's Okay. You can go. We'll talk later Chloe" Paschal let her go.
