I stumbled into the door with bags in my hands. We were in a small cafe. Little wooden tables were covered in checkered cloth and had wooden seats with checkered cushions to match. And there was little vases with flowers to top it off. I looked at the beige walls and saw old famous rock band albums and posters of people I don't know. Then there's a bar on the far left of the small cafe with red bar stools and a door on the servers side of the bar that (after looking through it's window some more) seemed to lead to the kitchen. I then looked at the stairs that were behind another door on the left side of the bar.
What caught my attention the most were the lights. They were little chandeliers with strings of glass beads that dangled from them.
I only looked at my surroundings for a few second before catching the eyes of a woman. She was probably in her fifties, but she was beautiful. It wasn't a beauty that made her seem unapproachable and overly important. It was a beauty that came from her experiences. She looked wise and respected. Her eyes looked like they had the answers for all, but she didn't seem cold. She looked warm and welcoming. I could see a few grey hairs sprouting on her head, but she made it work. Something about her is familiar. It took me a second to put my finger on it, but then I realized that she had the same dark eyes as my mother, brother, and I have.
She was sitting at one of the tables and had her legs crossed. I was staring so hard at her that I didn't notice the other woman at the bar who was in her late forties. She had more of a small town girl beauty. You can see that she grew up in this town and she knew so much about it. She had soft eyes that were dark blue and she softly smiled at me.
My dad came through the stairs door and interrupted the silent staring.
"Oh, you guys finally made it inside! What took you so long?"
I just blankly stared at him.
"um..okay so lemme get your bags." Dad took as many bags as he could out of Johnny and I's hands leaving only two. As he turned to go through the stairs door, a guy came out and held it open for him as he looked to the lady at the bar.
"Ma, did you call me?" he let go of the door once Dad was up the stairs and walked closer to me.
I took a small glance and looked away, but I had to double take. There he stood. Tall, a jawline sharp enough to cut me (CUT ME!), and broad shoulders. Wearing a white T-shirt that clung to his body and grey sweatpants. He has this amazing ginger hair and freckles. I looked at his straight perfect nose that led down to his amazing lips. Then I looked at his light brown eyes and panicked realizing that he was also looking at me. Oh god, this is embarrassing. I wiped my face, because I'm pretty sure I was drooling, and I looked away.
I'm pretty sure the blond headed lady at the bar was also staring at me. She transferred her gaze from me to him, "Yes Roger I wanted you to help get these bags and show this young lady to her room." She waved her hand in my direction which brought his gaze back to me.
that's when I realized that I haven't introduced myself! I feel so rude right now! I haven't said a word since I've walked in the door and I've just been standing here like an idiot. I'm guessing Johnny had ran up the stairs after dad while I was busy staring at the guy who's name is apparently Roger.
I shrunk back more towards the door as I started to get insecure and slightly nervous. I'm not much of a people person, because people haven't really been that nice to me most of my life. I usually just keep to myself. There stood this angel of a guy in front of me and I can't even say hi. I mean he did look amazing while I looked like a mess.
I had lost my hair tie long before I walked through the door and my hair was a complete and utter frizzy mess that reminded me of a lion's mane. My circles got worse because I was tired and I was wearing a red "I love New York!" hoodie with green shorts. I didn't even match! I looked a mess!
I shook myself from my thoughts and looked at the expecting faces around me. Roger walked up to me.
"Hey my name is Roger. You must be Mr. Avasanta's daughter?" He gave me a breath taking smile and put out his hand for me to shake it.
I just looked at it. Come on! Shake his hand! It's simple! You take your hand and you shake his! Introduce yourself! I inwardly got frustrated with myself.
before I could say anything the beautiful elegant lady sitting at the table finally said something, "I'm pretty sure that you were able to speak last time I saw you! Of course you were still stuttering over your words then, but I'm sure you know how to speak now." She smirked as though it was meant to be some sort of joke or as though she found something humorous.
I blinked at her with a blank face. I finally snapped out of my daze and got out of my head. I wiped the sweat off of my palms before shaking Roger's hand.
"Sorry, I-I'm bad at words. My name is Victoria. Victoria Avasanta" I smiled awkwardly and continued to shake his hand. Wait.. I think i'm supposed to let go now. How long do hand shakes last?
Roger pulled his hand away from me while I stared at our hands. Glancing from my hand back to his and then back to mine.
"Oh so you can speak? For a second there I thought you were mute." He awkwardly laughed and his mom snickered with him. Oh wait that's a joke. I'm supposed to laugh. I forced a small, quiet laugh.
"lemme introduce you to everyone. I'm Roger as you already know. The beautiful lady over there at the bar is my mother, Anna." Anna smiled and I nodded towards her as he continued to speak, "This elegant woman right here is Nina. Ah- well, i'm sure you already know that. Since...you guys are family and all." He stepped back and looked at the both of us.
I don't remember Nina at all, but you could definitely tell we were related. Those dark eyes only belonged to our family and seemed to always dominate over the eye color of anyone who gets married into our family. A girl with green eyes can marry a guy from our family and indefinitely their kids' eyes would turn out as dark as their father's.
"I know you don't really remember me, but I'm happy to see you again. You grew up beautifully." Nina gave me a warm smile, "and I also know that I'm your mother's cousin and technically not her sister, but we grew up very very close just like sisters so I'd prefer if you called me Aunt Nina." Aunt Nina got up and walked towards me. She then wrapped me in a warm embrace.
It's been forever since I've felt this feeling. The feeling of someone's arms around me. Holding me close. I know that it was a simple hug and it was just meant as a greeting, but it felt nice. I haven't felt this since my mom's funeral. I hesitantly wrapped my arms around her and hugged her back.
She pulled away and looked me in the eyes, "You look just like her. Beautiful and elegant. And Oh! You have her eyes, but then that makes sense because everyone in the family has them." She laughed and pointed to her eyes. "Though you do look a little tired and we'll get you to sleep as soon as Roger gets these bags and helps you take them upstairs." She nodded to Roger. My eyes softened and my heart started to ache when she said I looked just like my mother.
"Let me just explain a couple things to you so you're not confused in the morning. Anna is a friend of mine. We both own this establishment and we live upstairs. You guys got lucky because there were three extra rooms upstairs that we've been using to store junk in. I spent all weekend cleaning those rooms out for you guys. One room for you, one room for Johnathon, and one room for your dad. We open up the cafe at 7:00, so if you're not up by then I'm sure you will be with all the commotion that you'll here from down here."
I nodded and glanced at Roger. He had pulled a chair and sat down waiting for Aunt Nina to finish talking. Wow he was something out of this world.
"You got it?" Aunt Nina spoke and my attention snapped back towards her. I nodded my head.
"Okay so Roger will take these," Aunt Nina handed the two bags by my feet to Roger, "and he will show you your room. Get some rest for tomorrow!" She hugged me again and Roger started leading the way towards the stairs.
Before I followed him up the stairs I stopped and waved, "Goodnight Aunt Nina and Anna and thank you!" I then started up the stairs.
