But other things will.
Oscar insisted on sleeping with Valerie because it had been so long since they slept in the same bed together, Valerie agreed because she realized it too.
She didn't get much sleep that night though, she was too worried about the rendezvous with Edwin.
Again? With that word, rendezvous? From what Valerie understood, it still meant two people romantically meeting up.
She and Malphus never technically romantically met up, but they did have a crush on the other the whole time. That's some form of rendezvous, yes?
Nonetheless, when her clock struck 11 pm, she got out of bed, wrapped a shawl around her, and left.
She crept around in much the same motion she did when she was younger, looking every direction once in a while to make sure no one caught her.
She made it to the observatory without much problem, except for when she almost knocked a vase over and had to quickly catch it and put it back in place.
She entered the observatory to have the door slam behind her, she turned around to see it was Edwin.
"Oh, Edwin, you scared me!" Valerie said in a normal voice, they were close to guest rooms but not so close that one would hear them talking.
"Good," he said before he pulled her to him, making her drop her shawl, and kissed her. She put her hands on his chest trying to push him away but failing miserably.
Once she finally got them to separate she asked,
"What about Dorthy?" He shrugged and replied,
"What about her?" This reminded Valerie of the one time she saw a play and the female protagonist was meeting up with her lover at night while the antagonist and her lover were married. It made Valerie mad and wonder how someone like that could be a protagonist.
"She'll find out!" Valerie said angrily, "They all will!" Edwin ignored her.
He rubbed her butt and grasped it gently, then slid his hands up her body to go the same to her bosom. He slid his hand around her neck and squeezed it tightly, making her scream in pain and weaken her push against his chest.
He yanked her hair making her have a surge of energy and push him away.
"I'm cutting you some slack this time, I won't let you escape next time." He said as he licked his lips and leaned back against the wall behind the door.
Valerie thanked the gods, grabbed her shawl, and left.
On her way back to her room she bumped into Malphus.
"What are you doing up at this time of night?" He asked as she bumped into his chest, looking backward making sure no one was following her or saw her.
"I was in the observatory, I see now why it has you so fascinated," Valerie said, a shiver ran down her spine though there was no wind and it wasn't cold.
Malphus looked from her eyes to her lips, seeing that they were now swollen. He took his thump and rubbed it and Valerie shivered again.
"Were you kissing the stars too?" Malphus cocked her an eyebrow and Valerie laughed through a voice crack.
"Of course not, that's silly. They are so hot that they will melt my skin and they're millions of miles away." Malphus hummed and retracted his hand.
"See you in the morning?" Valerie nodded before she was pulled in for a quick kiss.
They parted ways as Valerie went back to her room and Malphus headed towards the observatory. She was shaky and frantic, while he was calmingly angry, so much even the air was afraid of him and it turned chilly.
When he got there, he found nothing, but the air was heavy and smelt sexual. Then he scanned the room again and found a strand of long brown hair on the floor, identical to Valerie's. But then he found another piece of hair that was short and blonde, not curly and brown like Oscar's but more like Dorthy's boyfriend's hair- whatever his name was.
There was a chance that Edwin's hair could have been left there before Valerie's hair was, but it was unlikely that two people would be behind the observatory doors at separate times for no reason.
It was more of a chance that Valerie met him there that night to invest in a scandalous night with him. Malphus tore the hair to shreds with jealousy and anger.
He made a plan and would put a stop to this. This wasn't like Valerie, she seemed very uncomfortable when she was heading to her room in the first place.
Malphus dropped all the hair and walked back to his room, tall and proud, and menacing.
