"Two days. Then you should be back in the castle." Malphus said with a mediocre look on his face. Oscar's parents weren't in the kingdom, there were in a Singapore kingdom half-way across the continent, and the thought of Valerie being alone with Oscar was unsettling to him in many ways.
He knew they weren't in the kingdom because he kept records of when people went in and out of his kingdom using carriages, and they did recently.
"Thanks, Malphus. Alan will be coming with me to become acquainted with Oscar." Valerie said leaving his study.
Malphus blew a puff of air and took off his small square glasses that were hanging from his nose. The two main things he woke up for were leaving, following them was the kingdom. Even if it was only for two days, the castle felt boring and sane before they arrived, now that they'd be gone, the castle would be calm again.
The first day, Malphus was happy to see that he was getting the amount of work done he was before Valerie arrived, which was 5*'s the amount he got done when she was around. He found that maybe having Valerie around was a bad decision and he scolded himself for letting him get off track by a girl.
The next day, he was completely and utterly bored, so he had to apologize to himself and told himself he'd made the right decision of having Valerie near.
"Look at me, I'm talking to myself now," Malphus said flipping through paperwork to see if anything was missing.
Soon after he heard a knocking on the door.
"Come in," Malphus said putting down his yet-to-be-finished paperwork.
"Hey, Malphus." Francis entered the study and closed the door shut behind her.
"Hello Francis, what is it that you need?" Malphus asked, immediately realizing he was wasting his time.
"I love your castle, there's so much to do and to see, but I'm a little bored. Do you think we could possibly go somewhere?" Malphus looked and her and unnoticeably flinched.
"Sure, why not. I have nothing to do other than run two kingdoms anyway." Malphus huffed. He was being sarcastic but he knew that Francis knew that he was still agreeing.
"Great! So, where do you think we should go?" Francis asked like an excited child who was about to go on their favorite ride at the carnival.
"There is a very nice theatre not too far away, and it plays at this time so we could go and come back just after lunch. That is if we don't eat out." Malphus said, practically planning what they would do while explaining what they could do.
"That sounds nice, what play with they be playing?" Francis simply asked.
"I'm not sure we'll see when we arrive, but right now I need to change into something that's viable for me to leave the castle in. You can change to if you want, I'll have Stan get us a carriage ready." Malphus said standing up from his chair and walking over to the door.
"I think I would like to change into something more appropriate," Francis said, and then left the study to go change.
After 30 minutes, the two were ready to go to the theatre. Francis wore a blue dress with white puffy princess sleeves. She had about 20 layers of fabric, each ending with a layer of lace, and a nice big cage under it all. Malphus wore a nice tuxedo.
They entered the theatre and were greeted by dim lights, few people, and big comfortable red velvet seats. There was another theatre right beside it, one that the middle-class men could afford- if they saved up for a while. That theatre has less comfortable seating and less professional lighting. If anyone could afford to go to that theatre, they surely would but money wasn't the easiest thing to come by and so most people didn't even get to enjoy the wonderful world of on-stage acting.
Surprisingly, Malphus had a good time watching the play. Mostly because Francis wasn't bothering him because she was so engulfed in what was happening on stage.
The actors truly made him believe they were worried, or sad, or scared, happy, or shocked when they were acting.
'Maybe I should work on my acting skills. It could be useful for some lying.' Malphus thought as the play wrapped itself up.
'It would have been better if I could enjoy this with Valerie. Just being around her makes things so much better. I shouldn't have given her those two days off.' He thought, and then got trapped in his own mind. So trapped he didn't notice when the lights turned on and Francis lightly shook him saying 'It's time to go home.'
