Chapter 38 - Valerie the bunny

Valerie knocked on the door to the king's study. Unlike the last time, she waited for him to respond to the knocking.

"Come in." Valerie heard from the other side of the door. She opened it with a creak and closed it with that same sound.

"Yes, Malphus?" Valerie asked.

"I see you've already named my bunny," Malphus said with glasses sitting on his nose, looking like they were about to fall off. He changed into a more comfortable casual outfit, as there was no use in staying in the suit he had on earlier that day.

"Well sire, I have just called it what it is. Fluffy." Valerie gave a simple response while holding the bunny tightly and scratching it behind its ears.

"Then perhaps I should name you cute," Malphus said calmly, not expecting Valerie to take it the same way any other girl would, by being flustered.

"No, that is an unfair description of a person. This is scientifically fluffy." Valerie said, a little defensive.

"Maybe he doesn't want to be called fluffy, and for temporary naming him fluffy, I will from now on calling you bunny," Malphus said, as Valerie placed the bunny on the ground and it hopped over to Malphus.

"You will do no such thing! Did you expect me to apologize without saying a name? Who would be so cruel?!" Valerie crossed her arms like a sassy little child, and Malphus grinned at it.

"You could have called him Mr.Bunny," Malphus said, placing the bunny on his desk and going to stand in front of Valerie.

"That's far too basic." Valerie inched closer, determined to prove her point.

"And fluffy isn't?" Malphus also inched closer, but not for the same reason Valerie did.

"It's less basic than Mr.Bunny!" Valerie again then inched closer.

This little bicker went on for about 2 more minutes before they were so close to each other, they were able to memorize each other's breathing patterns.

"Anything else to say little bunny?" Malphus said with a smirk on his face.

Valerie looked less defensive and more lost in the moment, so she couldn't give a correct answer to his question. She just sat and looked, first to his eyes, then to his lips, then lower and lower and lower.

'No! I must not look there, I am married!' Valerie thought to herself and snapped back to her senses. She knew that she wasn't going to win the battle, and Malphus would go on like this all night. The only way to stop him was to tell him he was right.

"Alright fine. It was wrong for me to name your bunny." Valerie confessed in defeat, and Malphus gave her a sweet smile.

"Great. So that means you agree with your adorable little nickname." Malphus went to sit back at his desk, and grab the little bunny who was now chewing the top corner of one of the papers on his desk.

"No, but I know you're going to win the argument anyway, so why bother trying?" Valerie said bluntly.

"Has the little bunny finally started adapting to the high society ways?" Malphus asked in a sarcastic voice.

"I like it when you retaliate, no one dares say such things to their king because they think I might behead them." Malphus rolled his eyes.

"Well, as much as I love to play, I have work to get to. Take the bunny to the kitchen and tell the chef to make it a salad, no ranch, and then take it to Alan and let them play." Malphus sat the chubby bunny on his desk again.

"Alright, see you later Malphus." Valerie took the bunny to the kitchen.

When she left his study, she didn't see the shadow of someone who sat right outside of the room listening to everything they were saying.

'Is that not a maid? Why does she address him as Malphus and not sire or something? She isn't even that pretty.' The person in the shadows thought to themselves. 'Now now, don't think that way. She has never done anything to you except be nice. Do the same.' They were having a battle with themselves.

"Please do invite yourself in, Francis." Malphus had caught her, unlike Valerie, he kept a close watch on what was going on in the halls when she opened and closed the door.

Francis walked in the room looking embarrassed, she didn't put on a big dress because she came to seduce the King, but heard talking and decided to listen to what was happening.

"So, we like playing spy, no?" Malphus gestured for Francis to sit down.

"And what's with the petticoat-like dress on? You look like a slut and it isn't cute." Much like Mary, Francis didn't mind being called a slut. She was happy that Malphus looked at her.

"Well- I was hot, and I wanted to see what you were up to. I heard you talking and I just wanted to make sure you weren't being threatened." Replyed Francis.

"How very kind of you, but I have the best guards in the 4 kingdom area. No one would dare threaten me, and if they did they would die the same day." Malphus gave her a sweet smile.
