The next day while Valerie was tending to Malphus' needs, she heard little parts of conversation other maids were having. She sometimes heard 'Malphus' maid' and 'so cute' and 'Malphus' and 'together'. At first she pieced together a sentence that said 'Malphus' maid and Malphus look so cute together' which had her grinning like a fool.
Soon enough she heard the missing pieces to the puzzle that were 'Francis' and 'Anthony' and 'I hope they stay a while' and ' can become smitten as well'. With these words she soon turned the puzzle to piece it as it should have been, to say 'Malphus and Francis are so cute together! I hope they stay a while so Malphus' maid and Anthony can become smitten as well.' Which, had her smiling, not because people thought Francis and Malphus were cute together, but because people believed she would become smitten with the Rosters butler.
From every butler Valerie had seen, including Anthony, they were mean little things who lived to serve a high-class families. They never had a love interests and were uninvolved in anything that didn't contain their Masters or Mistress'.
If Valerie was ever to date someone while being married, it most certainly wouldn't be a heartless butler. Not saying that the butler is heartless, but how could you love someone who acts so mean to other people. No, I'm not talking about people who are in a bad mood at home so they tend to ignore them and be rude to them, no I mean full on attitudes with everyone for any or no reason, is horrible to everyone and no one likes.
As she was thinking her thought, she heard her name being called.
"Valerie!" she snapped her head up to look at Malphus who had called her "I will be escorting Lady Francis to a nearby horse racing. Go get dressed." Valerie made her way to the tiny cell like place that was given to her and changed.
They rode about in a wide carriage with Malphus and Francis on one side and Valerie on the other side. She sat in front of Francis and was once caught staring at Francis' beautiful dress. Francis smiled sweetly and mouthed the words 'do you want to try it on when we get back' and Valerie nodded her head happily.
Valerie had to hold their food and serve it to them at the horse race. She didn't enjoy going up and down the stands to give them food, but at least Francis gave Valerie a few of her fries. They were the most seasoned fried potato sticks she ever had. Anytime she ate potatoes she ate them raw, or baked with nothing on them. She has eaten mashed potatoes put there was nothing more than butter in them and a pinch of salt.
After the horse race, they went to the best shop in the kingdom, which was oddly just down the street form the horse racing center. Malphus bought Francis a total of 10 dresses, and Valerie was the one to handle the money and hold the dresses. Luckily they didn't walk from the horse racing center to the dress shop so Valerie didn't have to hold the dresses for too long.
Once they arrived back at the castle they were greeted by the butler.
"How was the horse race, who won?" asked Anthony as the took the dresses out of Valerie's hand.
"Caballo marrón won, just as sire expected." said Valerie as she willingly gave Anthony the dresses. Normally dresses wouldn't be very heavy but the dresses Francis got had cages underneath the fabric so they were heavier than normal dresses.
"Aw that's a shame I really thought Caballo Dorado or Caballo de plata had it this time." Anthony shook his head in shame.
The man wasn't a bad guy and was very pleasurable to talk to. How come none of the maids converse with him? He isn't bad looking either.
Malphus saw Valerie smile at something Anthony said and glared at them. The glare was so hard and cutting, the butler turned around but Malphus was quicker and looked away. The butler turned back around not seeing who or what was looking at him.
