Chapter 45 - Chapter 44: Encounter

Getsuga was a strong woman, even while going through all she faced in the town she prevailed. The elf as a race was one that depended heavily on familial and community bond. to put it in game terms, they were a species that got buffs when they lived together and were in harmony

Everything about them would get an upgrade, from the mental and physical state to their learning rate. The elves had always been a race close to nature, perhaps that was why they acted like a pack. Conversely, an elf who despite being part of pack wasn't' accepted and welcomed would get a debuff

Anxiety, depression, a weakened body, lower adaptability rates. Getsuga managed to bear and power through it all, she wasn't sure if her past life experiences and her mentality helped her cope, even when her grandmother died and left her all alone, Getsuga never cried or broke down from the abuse she received

Of course she felt bad and was heartbroken by her grandmother's death, she wasn't heartless, but apart from that time, she had never cried or truy felt broken since her reincarnation. However, as she watched her mother and the priestess burn in black flames, along with the rush and transmission of information from the artifact she was holding on to, her mental defenses crumbled and for the seecon time in this life, Getsuga cried her heart out.

After her blood activated the amulet she was holding unto, getsuga fell into a trance like state, the inscriptions and drawings on the walls of the shrine came to life and the screams of the ghosts turned into a wild and ominous tune audible only to Getsuga

The images, texts and sounds all came together as if creating a movie. Although it looked like she was in a lucid dream or a trance like state, Getsuga was actually living through the experiences and story of the village since its inception

From its glory days with the first born of the moon, she who floated in the sky, a tower underneath her as she filled the battlefield with shadows, a one woman army that laid waste to everyone that stood before her path, regardless of their race or power, from human to abomination

From how she led the faction of elves called the children of the moon, a group of elves with darker skin shade to a major power in that era to her eventual fall and the destruction of her utopia, and the scatter of the surviving dark elves

Most dark elves either died out or joined the main elf clans and lost their dark shade in successive generations, with getsuga's tribe being the last living dark elf tribe. Even that was gone now as they raised their hands against the very one that was supposed to bring them back to glory

She watched and learnt more about her tribe and ancestry than any priest had ever learnt, as none of them had been able to sync with the artifact. Still in the seated position with her back against the altar, Getsuga eventually passed out, it had been a very long day for her.

*Sync with ??? complete, upgrading titles 'The moonfang' and "???", spirit is too weak to bear its effect, reach rank A to unlock its effect*

*Shop now available, reach soul points requirement to unlock*

The system screen flashed arring those words but as Getsuga was deep asleep, she missed it, and it faded back into the darkness

When Getsuga woke up the next morning the phantoms had vanished and so had the glowing texts and images.

The succession ceremony had been completed and all the needed information about her tribe and the artifact itself had been ingrained in her mind.

It was a lot of information to take at once but some part had been locked away for when it was needed. That was how much information she had laying around in her head at that moment

'At least whoever designed this system was kind enough to group, compartmentalize and organize the information in the perfect order. It's like going through a library'

Getsuga thought to herself as she wore the necklace around her neck.

Her immediate problem was taking enough material along with her on her trip and the artifact had solve that problem.

Apart from serving as a mobile nether generator for reasons she still didn't understand, it also had a storage space.

While most of the storage had been locked as she didn't have the energy required to power it, a portion of it, around the size of a small room, was available to her.

This made her glad as her plans could now go unhindered. She stood and stretched her body before turning towards the altar.

"Thank you grandma for everything, someday I'll be back to this spot, for now however, I'm going to try find my path, one that wasn't dictated for me by a prophecy"

After those words Getsuga turned around and left the shrine. A few minutes after she left the area into the residence, a red magic circle appeared above the shrine and it vanished like it was never there before.

It had already served its purpose. The heir had awakened and the legacy had been passed on. Not to mention it had lost it primary power source

The rest of the time Getsuga spent in the town was used to get herself prepared.

She washed off the blood and dirt on her body with a deep and relaxing bath before getting dressed in one of the outfits her grandmother had prepared for her before she died

It was a pseudo artifact crafted by an artisan, it was a combat robe that offered some defense and wouldn't get worn out easily and could bear dirt and long travels

After eating and packing extra clothes, she moved to the residences where she had stashed out all she had looted from the village.

Taking the essentials she had prepared, she also picked what she deemed necessary, food, weapons, some local produce and ornaments she could sell if needed and lots of money she'd use to survive

After all, regardless of the world or era, if one didn't have money, they were doomed to die horrible deaths. However she didn't completely fill up the storage area as she left a bit of space left in case of emergencies.

When she was done with all this she left the village without looking back, not even once

***************************************

Getsuga had spent most of the time on her journey running away from beasts or running after them to kill them after she was attacked by them.

She wasn't sure if it was the protagonist's passive ability to attract hostility and trouble to himself, or if it was an effect of nether she wasn't aware of but due to that she was able to understand her system a little more.

Apart from the status function of the system, there was the shop which she still had not gathered enough soul points to unlock, she discovered that she gained soul points whenever she killed. Regardless of the beast or level of what she killed she gained soul points, however depending on the species and the strength the amount of soul points she received varied.

The artifact around her neck also seemed to glow and the flow of nether felt different whenever she killed. If she wanted to grow stronger and survive, she could never be too far apart from death.

More time had passed than Getsuga could tell, since she left the village she had ranked up once and had increased all her stats by one minor rank, she had lost count of how many she had killed in that short period already.

Death and killing didn't bother her, in fact she was excited by it, but after hunting the same lower species of beasts over and over again with no change or risk, her excitement had died down.

As for how long she had lived in the wild, weeks, months or even a year, she couldn't tell. Having an unstable mental state wasn't helping matters either.

Now she just wanted to find a city and start life afresh.

Still with her back against the tree, Getsuga felt the presence of a group coming closer to her position, the presence felt different from that of the beasts she had encountered so far, so she either had a new beast opponent or she she had encountered her first intelligent species

Either way she had to prepare for battle.

'Using my art would leave me in a state of bloodlust and I'll be weakened afterwards not to mention I'm being to starting to rely a bit too much on it, so I'll go back to using weapons as Grandma taught me'

Two daggers in sheathes appeared directly strapped to Getsuga's side, one on each thigh, adjusting her body forwards, getting into a position where it would be easier for her to strike, a quiver filled with arrows on her back and a medium sized bow in her arms.

Without getting up or making a sound she pulled an arrow from her quiver and lined it up on the bow and aimed in the position she detected the presence from.
