Christa shook me awake, my body flaming with aches and pains.
"Melody, we have to go, now,"
"What's going on, Christa,"
She got me to my feet dragging me out of the alley. she kept telling me not to look back, and good God I wish I had listened. The corpse laid face down on the concrete. Tears streamed down my face, landing on my palms. I went to wipe the tears that had fallen, finding nothing but blood in its place.
"I killed that man, didn't I Christa"
"Don't worry about that now, we need to keep moving Melody,"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to kill him," I said, falling to my knees.
"I know sweetheart, please you need to keep moving,"
We dodged in and out of alleyways, stopping only once to dumpster dive for a sweatshirt. Slipping the sweatshirt on helped to cover up the blood. The bloods stickiness made my skin crawl, but at least I could hide it from the public. We made our way slowly out of the city, my body still burning in pain. We walked into the colony, Keeping my head low I made my way to the war room. Davey was waiting for us, his eyes passing back and forth between us as we made our way up to him.
"I send you out for one errand, and you kill a man," Davey said, his face practically boiling with anger.
"He tried to kill me Davey,"
"Really, is that your excuse melody, I try to kill you all the time in our sparring matches and I'm still here,"
"Its not like that, Davey,"
"God Melody, let me fix you up and then I want to see you in the fitness center,"
I met him a couple of hours later, still sore. I found my way to the fitness center, where Davey was waiting already taped up to practice. When I was little Davey tought me self defense, in reality he tought me different forms of Martial arts. This was the first time how that he hadn't enlisted the help of Carl bronwyn. Carl had the ability not to feel pain, but as a result he could get shot and not know until he passed out from blood loss. This time though doc wanted to see what he could do, even though he said that we were doing this in the hopes that I would unlock an ability.
"you could have died today melody,"
"I well I'm no daisy, Davey,"
"That you are not, but that doesn't give me a reason to bear your casket,"
"Knock it off Davey, I already know the real reason that we are down here,"
"Just because I want a chance to test my new ability, does not mean that you couldn't use the practice anyway,"
I decided that he wasn't worth the argument and got into a fighting stance. He followed shortly after, standing in front of me ready to start. I bounced back and forth on the mat, watching his movements for him to move first. To my surprise he did the same, watching my movements carefully as we continued our dance. I made a quick jab, testing how he would react. He douged quickly, returning two jabs and a oddly placed upper cut. I blocked one, sliding backwards to dodge the others.
"Your getting slow, melody,"
"Say your worst old man,"
He made a quick jab towards my midsection. I countered it grabbing his hand. I wrapped my leg around his arm, my foot behind his head. I swung my leg downwards, slamming his head into the mat.
He spun on his back, kicking my legs out from under me. I tried to kick him off, but I only gave him an opportunity to get me into an arm bar. I weaseled out of the arm bar, struggling to get to my feet. He grabbed my foot and threw me over his shoulder, I landed onto the mat with a smack.
"You need to fight as if you're life depends on it melody,"
"I am jackass,"
"Obviously not, because I am still kicking your ass melody,"
I grabbed ahold of his wrist and managed to get him in an arm bar. He managed to get out of it and up to his feet. We circled around the mat, once again waiting for the right moment. I spun on my heel, landing a round house on his temple. He grabbed my foot after the kick had landed, throwing me forward so he could get me in a head lock.
"Fight like you mean it melody,"
"I am Davey,"
"You think you could protect yourself when your like this melody,"
"Like what Davey,"
"Your weak, and your easily provoked,"
"I'm fine Davey,"
"Oh really, and what would your mother say if she saw you melody,"
"Stop,"
"Weak, afraid. you can't even save her, you think you can protect yourself,"
"David, shut your mouth,"
"You think she would be proud, if you died a weakling like she did,"
"I SAID ENOUGH," I screamed, electric blue energy pulsing outwards.
David was thrown into the wall, dust raining on his scalp. He looked into my eyes terrified, mouthing an apology. I ran out of the room tears soaking my face. I walked past Christa in silence, I wasn't in the mood to deal with people.
"Davey, oh my god what happened," Christa exclaimed, helping him out of the wall.
"I pushed melody to get a reaction, unfortunately I succeeded a little too well I'm afraid,"
"Davey when are you going to tell her the truth,"
"Only when she needs to know Christa,"
"If you don't tell her soon, there may not be another chance,"
"I hate it when your right Christa,"
I walked down the street, not paying attention to where I was, or where I was going. I eventually found my way to a broken down parking garage. My head was spinning, popping an advil into my mouth I thought about the fight while taking a swig from my water bottle. My blood was still boiling, how could he say that. He knows what really happened, I know he was just trying to get a reaction out of me, but it still hurts. The more I thought about it the angrier I got, and the angrier I got the more I thought about it. I screamed as loud as I could, throwing punches into the concrete wall, hardly noticing that energy was starting to collect around my fists. I kept punching, getting angrier and angrier with each swing. The energy around my snapped, pulsing out of my fist in a blast of blue energy, it ripped through the concrete wall. I watched as a hole formed before me, five layers of concrete broke into a giant hole, five walls away I saw the end of the destruction.
