It was weird for Rodger and the others to set foot on dry land again. They kept waiting for their feet to try and shift below them, but it felt great to have it firm below their feet. Rodger started to organize the others. When Devan spoke up, "Shut up. Stupid Fool, you are in charge of nothing around here. Your only purpose is to identify the girls, and to look completely helpless to get people to help look for them."
Then Devan moved in close and whispered in his ear so that the others couldn't hear. "If you cause me any trouble you will just disappear along with the rest of your family."
Rodger looked into his eyes and knew that the guy would do it just out of fun if he took a mind to.
Devan said. "To me, you and your friends are just dead weight, but you might become useful if you can help me find them."
