Chapter 76 - Calling

"Wait!"

Ethan suddenly heard a voice and looked towards the ocean to see a familiar red-head coming towards them in a hurry.

It was Mera.

"Look, It's the fish lady." Harley scowled as she saw the detestable woman again.

"I did not come here to fight," Mera answered calmly despite what was going through her mind. The man before her seemed to know exactly what her kingdom was trying to accomplish and even tried to give her advice.

However, the people of Atlantis didn't deserve to live in luxury while her people were forced to survive off of sunken ships, searching for scraps!

'Atlantis should pay for our imprisonment! They should pay with their lives! They should! But...' Mera never had any doubt about what she was doing before, but somehow what Ethan said the other day did more than just make her angry.

'He must know something that I don't...I have to find out...plus if I can become friendly with him then-'

"Then what did you come here for?" Harley asked, snapping Mera out of her daze as she stepped right in front of her, blocking her way to Ethan.

Mera looked mildly annoyed, but she didn't let it bother her and continued to speak while looking directly into Ethan's eyes, "I first wish to apologize to you for-"

"Hey, you bitch! I was talking to you!!!" Harley growled as her body started to transform. "I should rip you to-Huh?" However, she abruptly stopped when she felt a hand on top of her head.

"It's alright Harley," Ethan said as he gently stroked her hair with a slight smile on his face.

"But she!-"

"I know what happened. But I'm telling you I'm fine. Ok?" He stroked her hair gently before pulling her into a tight embrace, relieved that she was doing alright after what happened.

Or so he thought.

At first, Harley resisted the hug, but then she started to feel something wet fall from her eyes, alarming Ethan.

She was crying...?

Ethan looked down to see, but she hid her face by keeping her head down.

'Don't look at me.' She said through her mental link with him as she wrapped her arms around his waist, squeezing him with all the strength she could muster as if she was afraid of him leaving.

A boiling rage started to grow with him, he wanted to kill whoever was responsible for making his woman cry. Unfortunately, the person in question was already dead.

Moments later, the sounds of helicopters could be heard in the distance, ruining the moment, but it also signified that it was time to leave.

"Raven."

"I know." The half-demon replied while gathering her mana to teleport them away.

"Azarath Metrion Zinthos!"

And just like that they were gone, leaving the police with a destroyed beach littered with corpses of horrifying creatures.

The proper authorities quickly got involved and the clean up started.

Hundreds of people talked of heroes that saved them that night, but no one knew of their faces as it was truly dark and it happened so fast.

Pictures and videos would surface on social media, but still, no one could recognize them

No one except the Justice League who caught wind of it happening the next day, however, those 'heroes' were already long gone.

After Raven teleported them away, they found themselves back at the RV which they quickly boarded to relax for the rest of the night.

The orange cat Teekl could be found laying in the driver's seat with the two hyenas close by while they gnawed on a bone that they dropped when sensing the state of their owner.

("You've returned..") Teekl said with his mental link to Ethan as he stretched his limbs.

("You seem to be a bit of a mess.")

'Things didn't go as planned, but we're back and with a visitor.' Ethan mentally replied back a bit surprised that the cat was talking to him first. Teekl was a strange cat, and taking him away from his former master was more about an insult than getting rid of Klarion.

What he knew about Teekl was superficial at best, but he never much cared as it was under a contract with him.

("Hmmm?... An Atlantean?") Teekl leaped down from the seat and eyed Mera with his ruby-colored eyes before leaping up onto a nearby table.

'You know who they are?' Ethan asked.

("I'm fairly knowledgeable about their race. In fact, I'm knowledgeable about a lot of things.") He said while licking his paws.

'Why am I just learning about this?..' Ethan frowned.

("Because you never asked.") Teekl grinned. ("And I like being silent...keeps people guessing about me.")

Ethan groaned at that answer, but for now, he had something more important to take care of and walked on by.

'I'm sure there are a lot of things you don't know about me...master...'Teekl thought as he curled up into a ball to sleep.

'What is this?...' Mera couldn't believe her eyes, one moment she was on the beach and the next she was inside some kind of house with objects she has never seen before in her life.

One had to remember that she has always been in the ocean, and although she saw strange things yesterday, she didn't pay much attention as she was focused on finding Ethan.

"You are welcome to take a seat. I'll be back." Ethan gently picked Harley up and carried her to the bedroom leaving Mera alone with the other three.

Once there, he would attempt to lay her down on the soft bed, but her arms refused to let go of him.

"Can't we stay like this...for a while?" She asked.

"Yeah...of course we can." He let out a sigh and climbed into the bed with Harley still attached to him. Once in bed, he gently ran his fingers through her hair, trying his best to soothe his mate.

Ethan didn't quite know why Harley cried, but he bet it had something to do with what happened today.

'If only I was stronger I could have finished the fight much sooner...' He thought however, he wasn't the only one with that thought as Harley was thinking just about the same thing.

She was so happy to have Ethan by her side, it was like a dream she never wanted to wake up from, but deep down she had a feeling that he'll go somewhere she couldn't reach...

'Fuck...' Harley cursed as she closed her eyes. The near-death experience was a cruel reminder that she still was too weak, but she didn't expect to cry in front of everyone.

Was there something more to this?

And with that in mind, Harley started to drift off to sleep where she would dream for the rest of the night.

One that would change her life.

It was an entire hour before Ethan left the room and during that time things got a little awkward as Pamela, Raven, and Myra didn't know what to do with their guest

The guest in question stood up on her feet the entire hour and didn't move a single inch despite being reminded that she could sit down. Of course, it wasn't a problem for someone like her, but as time pressed on, she started to get annoyed.

'How dare he make me wait for so long! I came to apologize and before I could even do so I was taken away to this place!!' Mera scowled, folding her arms in front of her chest. 'I am the Princess of Xebel, I am destined to be queen! I will not tolerate this any longer!'

"Excuse me-" Her words were cut short when Ethan finally exited the bedroom with a somber expression on his face, but before she could ask him anything, Myra ran up to him.

The tall woman said nothing and just hugged him out of nowhere, squeezing him extremely tight.

"Myra you don't need to console me." Ethan groaned, feeling slightly embarrassed of how it looks whenever the giant of a woman hugs him.

However, she did accomplish what she set out to do as he seemed a bit more relaxed.

"Sorry." Myra quickly apologized after releasing him from her clutches.

"Is she ok?" questioned Pamela as she put down the book she was reading. "Was there anything wrong?"

"...For now she seems fine. She fell asleep before I could ask anything." sighed Ethan as he rubbed his slightly tired eyes.

"Excuse-"

"Although I like the quiet, it is strange not to hear her voice," Raven admitted as she stopped her meditation.

"Exc-"

"Hopefully she'll be back to her annoying self in the morning," Pamela replied. "What's the plan now? We're leaving New York right?"

"That's the-"

"DO NOT IGNORE ME!!" As soon as Mera shouted everyone stopped and glared at her, forcing her to close her mouth.

"Oh, I nearly forgot about you."

"W-what?!" Mera couldn't believe what she was hearing right now.

He forgot about her?!

The woman before Ethan was a beautiful specimen, she was a warrior princess with an outstanding body with curves all in the right places.

Important women of the DC universe all have incredible looks, but there is definitely a tier list, and Mera scores fairly high. Long gorgeous ruby red hair, mesmerizing blue eyes, and power over the element that makes up over 70 percent of the planet Earth.

She became the wife of Aquaman after finding out he wasn't such a bad guy and after listening to the Shell of Sounds which Ethan noticed was wrapped around her neck.

The shell was a strange thing as it could replay messages from people that speak into it and that particular one was left by her deceased mother.

Although, despite the positives, Mera is also known for her temper which caused quite a few problems.

Perhaps he could snatch her up before Aquaman and soften her up, but as of right now?

There was no way he was getting more involved with the woman, one redhead was enough for him.

More than enough.

"You were asking for my name right?" Ethan asked after remembering what happened earlier.

"You!... Yes, that is correct." Mera wanted to say more, but she decided to keep it to herself.

"My name is Ethan and these are my wives Pamela, Raven, and Myra." He said, pointing to each one respectively. "The one that doesn't like you is named Harley."

Mera's eyes opened wide from shock, "Your...wives?" The Xebelian had a slight hunch, but still...

'What a greedy man...' She thought, unconsciously taking a step back.

"I'm guessing you didn't stay around just to hear my name. What do you want?-Hm?"

*Beep Beep* Ethan's phone suddenly went off and he looked at it to see Sandra was calling him.

"Sandra?" He answered the phone.

"I need you in Gotham City...as fast as you can."

Hey, been a minute, hasn't it? I had the worse case of writer's block I have ever had in a while and I couldn't figure out what to write. I've rewritten this chapter over 7 times already as I didn't like how it turned out.

I still don't think I completely like this one, but I hope it at least gets a passing grade. Thank you for the people who kept on giving me stones! I appreciate it!

Be on the lookout for more chapters soon!

The next side chapter will focus on Harley and then after that, it will be on what's happening with Wizard as it's important.
