About a week later, it was a Tuesday and Mýa was at School. Her Chorus teacher had asked her to go to Mr. Fernandez classroom to give him some papers he needed. Mr. Fernandez taught a Basic Spanish 1 class, the papers Mýa were delivering were lists of classic Spanish songs and newer, popular Spanish songs. She had already taken basic Spanish in Middle School and had taken Spanish last year. She liked the language and liked to learn a little bit more whenever she had a chance.
She knocked on the door and heard the teacher say, "Adelante" (Come in or ahead) so she opened the door.
When she walked in she noticed the teacher looking at her with an agitated expression. She hoped it was the classes fault, not hers. Before she could say anything, he spoke, "Como mi clase no participará y tenemos una visita no bienvenida, supongo que veremos qué sabe." (Since my class won't participate, and we have an unwelcomed visitor, I guess we will see what she knows.)
Because Mýa knew some Spanish she happened to understand the gist of what he said. She knew he was agitated and mentioned his class, so they must not have been doing well. She also heard him say unwelcomed visitor, which would be her.
He then continued, "¿Qué puedo hacer por ti hoy, jovencita? Tengo una clase que necesita MUCHA ayuda para atender después de que yo me ocupe de lo que necesites." (What can I do for you today young lady. I have a class who needs a LOT of help to attend to after I deal with whatever you need.) Mýa understood almost all of the sentences this time.
She was annoyed with how he was treating her, it didn't matter how his class was acting, she was here to give him something her teacher had kindly gotten for him. She was doing something for him! She decided to let him know she wasn't going to be messed with, she had already had an average to bad day. "Siento molestarlo señor, traje las canciones que necesitaba de mi maestro." (Sorry to bother you sir, I brought songs you needed from my teacher.)
Mýa then held the song lists out to Mr. Fernandez with a smile. Mr. Fernandez was stunned, he quickly recovered and apologized, "I am very sorry about that. I shouldn't have picked on you like that, Gracias for the songs." He then turned to the class, "If you guys were willing to learn Spanish at all, I would be so content if you would be at least a third as fluent as she was."
He smiled again at Mýa and she nodded before walking back towards the door. As she was almost to the door, she felt a pair of eyes gazing at her and looked up to see Zeke basically staring at her. She quickly looked away and walked out of the classroom. As she headed back to the Chorus room she kept cursing at her terrible luck. Of course Zeke was in that class and saw her. She hoped he would forget about it, at least she didn't see him again for the rest if school. She might not even see him on the bus if she got lucky.

She was not lucky, as expected, Zeke found her right as school was ending. She hadn't even got to the bus yet when Zeke caught up to her and started asking about Spanish Class. He was interrogating her with so many questions about Spanish! "I didn't know you know Spanish. Are you fluent? When did you take a Spanish Class? How much do you know? Why didn't you tell me?....." it went on and on.
Mýa couldn't even understand what he was saying most of the time, she just sighed and tried to get on the bus and sit at the seat she normally sat at. However, Zeke wouldn't let her. He pulled her back to his seat in the back of the bus and made her sit down, he then sat next to her closer to the aisle and trapped her in. Once she was seated, he started asking her again about Spanish. She held her hands up said, "Woah, Stop! You kidnapped me and are bombarding me, chill out. I took a Spanish class in Middle School and took a class for a semester my first year in High School. I also have a few Hispanic people I talk to and have been doing some online courses. I am not completely fluent though, I can carry some conversations and wouldn't be completely lost in another country."
Mýa then took a breath and added, "Now that I have answered your many questions, can I go now?"
Zeke frowned 'Do I make you so uncomfortable and ready to escape?' he thought. He quickly got rid of his frown and smiled, "Sorry about all the questions. What I really want to know is, will you consider being my tutor? I suck at Spanish and need to get a decent grade for me to be able to play Baseball and not have to retake the class. We have a bug assemble coming up and at this moment I won't be able to pass it."
Mýa thought for a minute. She looked at his hopeful face, "Fine, I am not the best person to tutor you, but I would love to help.
Mýa brought her phone out of her bag. "Let me text my dad and ask him if he is ok with me hanging out with you today and the other days." She said.
Zeke smiled, "Cool," he replied.
He was very happy, his plan was going perfectly! He had a feeling that Mýa's dad would agree to it. Zeke and Mýa's dad were actually rather close, and they trusted each other pretty well. So because Mýa told her dad they were studying, her dad would trust them and most likely would let them hang out. He made Mýa believe he was really struggling with Spanish, but in reality he wasn't the best at Spanish and did need some help, but even without tutoring he would pass his class. He just wanted to be able to spend more time with Mýa, because even though he saw her basically everyday at least once, that still wasn't enough. (I admit it, he was a little crazy). He also thought that this way he would get a better grade, and he could hang out more. It was a win-win, and he didn't believe Mýa had any objections.
After Mýa got done texting her dad, they were both quiet. Mýa sat staring at the bus seat in front of them, and Zeke was looking around and taking glances at her, she also kept looking at her phone to see if her dad would reply and help her lift the awkward air between them. About a minute later, Mýa got a reply from her dad. He sent her a text saying that he was fine with them hanging out a few times after she got off the bus. After reading the text message, she turned to Zeke, "My dad says that it is fine. Now that we have that figured out, and I know that I can tutor you when we get off the bus, I'm going to go back to my seat."
Zeke frowned, 'does sitting with me make her so uncomfortable that she wants to leave? Or is it that she doesn't want to be seen together on the bus?' He shook his head, 'Stop overreacting Zeke, you just have some work to do with your relationship.' "You can if you want." He said, " is sitting with me so horrible?" He fake pouted.
Mýa laughed at his childishness. She wasn't afraid of being seen together, she just didn't want to let herself think too much about them sitting together. She was still trying to lose her feelings for him and didn't want her teenage brain to make the situation look like he liked her back, because she knew in the back of her mind she hoped he might like her back. Plus things were getting a little awkward because she didn't know what to talk about and wasn't sure how to start a conversation today for some odd reason.
"No, sitting with you is not horrible, Silly! I am just tired today and I know you normally sit back here with your bus friends and I didn't want to intrude. I was going to go back to my seat and possibly take a nap."
"Oh," Zeke said in relief, "don't worry, you aren't intruding or whatever. There are actually like four empty seats spaces back here, so my other friends have plenty of room. You can still take a nap back here if you want. We are getting off at the same stop so I can wake you up."
Mýa thought for a minute, "Are you sure you don't mind?" she asked.
Zeke smiled, "Of course, it's fine. I will wake you up when we need to get off the bus."
After he said that Mýa gave him a smile, made herself comfortable (as comfortable as possible on a bus), and dozed off for a little 50ish minute nap. After she had fallen asleep, she didn't realize that Zeke kept gazing at her and moved her hair out of her face a few times.
