A bright, sunny morning with birds chirping on the branches of the trees. Shades can be seen on the trees. People walking out of the buildings. Cars passing through the streets.
I woke up like it was the same day everyday. Hello and my name is Zero, I am an orphan.
I was named Zero because I was the first orphan picked up when the orphanage was established
However, it is not like your ordinary orphanage. At the age of 8, we were forced to train our bodies everyday. It was tiring and exhausting, every month we were injected with some sort of liquid.
After it was injected our bodies felt like we were on fire. I could only describe it as horrifying and gruesome. Some kids even died. Fortunately, 2 years later after we were forced to train. Someone reported the orphanage for child abuse.
Thus the remaining children were set free. Although no one was willing to take us. We were seen as monsters that plague the surroundings, The government decided to take a step and help us until we reached the age of 15. Providing our daily needs and funds.
The last day of the government helping us was yesterday. August 16 2054.
Before August even started, I took a part-time job on a local restaurant in the afternoon. Salary was decent. So I can support myself as long as I want to.
The day today was also the opening of the classes. First year of Highschool. The school's name is The Institute of the Era.
But something went wrong, monsters suddenly appeared out of cracks all over the world, It appeared on the sky. The military can't even do anything about it because the flesh of these monsters are so tough, bullets even bend when they it reached the flesh.
I was at the classroom at that time. The teacher in front of us was getting eaten by a monster. Screaming can be heard throughout the school.
However, since I was trained when I was a child. I managed to get out alive. I was in the storage room of the first floor of the school.
The school has four floors indicating the years of students that occupy it. First floor is for First Years, Second floor is for Second Years etc. Meanwhile the fourth floor has a gymnasium, cafeteria, a pool and the teachers lounge. Basically it's like a mall.
Because the school is so large with the size of a football stadium. It has elevators and a moving staircase for students and teachers to use.
I was trying to find the light switch in the room.
I found it and opened the lights but I realize.
I wasn't only one here.
There was a girl on the corner, hiding behind the boxes. Shocked when the room was suddenly lit up
I decided to call out to her.
"Hey, I'm sorry if I scared you or anything. Did you also run away from the monsters?" I asked with an apologetic tone.
"Yes, I barely escaped. I even say my friends getting eaten. What the hell are they?!" She looked calm, but can't stay put. Looking a bit scared.
"What's your name, Mine is Zero. Nice to meet you. You?" thinking that it was incovenient not knowing one's name as I bowed down.
"Yui, Nice to meet you too." She replied and bowed down too.
I was about to talk to her when suddenly.
[The Selection has chosen Yui and Zero as the two new holders of the Phantom]
"What?!" Both were shocked, reason is because the voice indicated us.
