Life has never been easy for my family. I always worked on the field, my father actually worked as a merchant before he met my mom. I don't how they both met, but I guess my mother was a peasant who supplied my grandfather's business.
In essence, my father got into a fight with his father and he ran away with my mother. They went on to work in the fields and have 4 children. Me, I'm the oldest; my sister Kate, and the twins Pat and Abreigh. We live in this small village on the edge of the Southern Empire, farming and selling potatoes, and that's all I could ask for. We don't really need anything else.
Every morning I woke up before the chickens, fed them, and collected anything they laid. I then woke up Kate to collect potatoes and sort them in shape and size, for 8 hours until noon. We usually ate around the 14th bell, after Pat and dad went to the well to collect. Mom was the one making the cooking and looking after Abreigh.
More often than not we would eat some vegetable soup and a glass of water.
We would then have the whole afternoon to then walk around town, I would go out with some other friends, and Kate preferred staying home playing games with the twins.
I hung out with two friends Max and Alice. We were really close to each other. Max and I would sometimes pretend we were knights trying to fight for Alice, who was locked behind the castle of the Northern Kingdom. I really liked them
Then the Queen died.
Someday after my 5th birthday, I was playing with Max and Alice, our usual game then we heard the first explosion.
"What was that!" Max shouted. he grabbed his wooden stick tighter.
"We have to get out of here!" I shouted at him.
I grabbed Alice by her hand. We had to go to our parents, but I didn't want to leave them.
So I decided to follow them to their houses first, mine was the furthest from where we were anyway. I sometimes think about how things would have been if I had left them both alone.
I didn't know what was happening. Who were these people? I saw people in black armour sacking houses and grabbing everyone they could find. The man I used to sell potatoes to with dad was standing in front of his ransacked house holding his wife crying. I didn't want to think what they did to her.
There was fire everywhere and you hear the cries of women and children. I had to get to my family, Kate, Pat and Abreigh were probably holding hands in the living room. But I had to help Alice and Max first.
TAS
I heard someone tripping behind me. I turned around Alice had tripped over.
"Alice! Are you alright?" said Max.
"I'm fin- watch out!" she couldn't even finish her words when someone approached from behind.
"What are you kids doing here? this is a really dangerous place for the three of you."
I looked at the man speaking. He was wearing black armour.
