Chapter 5 - The supposed master of The Mother of Evil

Expecting to see a splash of blood and hear the cracking of Olivia's chest, Tye braced himself. However just inches away from Olivia's chest Tye's hand abruptly stopped its movement. After this confusing turn of events, Tye focused his attention on Olivia's face, which had gone from a terrified frown to a sinister smile.

Olivia laughed, "of course you can't kill me. I am the one who bit you, after all. Which makes me… your master." She then broke out into hysterical laughter, "I can't… believe it… I'm the master of THE goddess… The very creator of my kind!"

She laughed again and again struggling to breathe. In anger, Veralive let out a shout that shook Tye to the core, "Aaaaaaaaaahhhhh." She then began to slam Tye's fist into what could only be described as an invisible barrier around Olivia.

This only caused Olivia to laugh more. Veralive slammed the fist into the barrier until it began to bleed. At the sight of the blood, Olivia became serious and stared into her attacker's eyes and calmly commanded, "Veralive, oh great mother seal yourself until your vassal deems it necessary to release you." Tye suddenly regained control of his body, but along with control, he lost most of the strength his body had just felt. This caused him to drop Olivia onto her feet.

As soon as her feet touched the ground, Olivia kicked Tye in the chest causing him to fly several feet and land on his back, gasping for air. She took several steps forward and looked down at the pitiful Tye writhing in pain. "I would kill you, but killing the vassal of Veralive would be considered a crime among my kind," she examined Tye from head to toe, "no matter the circumstances."

She began walking towards the stable, "If you wish to find me again, travel to Dastin, I will be there for the next three weeks." She hopped on a horse and wrapped a scarf around her face. "In a few minutes, that man," she pointed at the goon who was still watching for the sunrise, "will attack you when the sun's light touches his nose. If you can't even handle him, you have no right following me."

After driving her heel into her horse's side, she was gone. Olivia had left. Tye looked off toward the horizon seeing that the sun was beginning to rise. Confused he began to crawl towards a tree afraid of the sun, remembering that he was now a vampire. A creature who could never be touched by the sun's light, unless they wanted to die.

As soon as he began to crawl towards the tree, his head felt a slight pain. Though it was not the pain that worried him, it was what came with the pain. It was a voice. The distorted voice of Veralive.

Don't worry, her voice echoed in Tye's head, the sun will not be a burden to you. Tye held his head as she spoke almost overwhelmed by the pain of her echoing voice.

"Get… out," he said his voice proof of the pain he felt, "it hurts… get out." He groaned and kept crawling towards the tree for cover.

Why do you resist my council, Veralive began slightly aggravated now. However, even after saying this Tye continued to crawl. This only angered her further. I said stop!

This shout caused Tye such pain that he couldn't even speak, let alone crawl. "Why should I listen to you. You're just trying to get rid of me!"

How do you think killing you would benefit me? If anything, you dying would probably kill me as well. As the goddess said this Tye decided to stop and listen. She had saved his life from that endless hallway, after all.

"Fine, I'm listening, explain to me how a vampire could survive in daylight."

Easily you're not a vampire. At least not a full one. Due to you summoning me, your body remained mostly human. You may be stronger than most humans, you still can't match the speed and power of a real vampire.

Tye was still not completely convinced, but that didn't matter. Even if he died his father was gone, and he noticed that Olivia had taken the supplies he packed. He had nothing left to lose.

So, he stood up and faced the rising sun. That's when Hawk rubbed against Tye's leg. That's when Tye realized that he still had something, but it was too late the sun had just come above the edge of the trees in the distance. Tye raised his arms to brace himself for the pain of the sun burning his skin as the light touched his forehead.

However, instead of pain he only felt the light's warmth. He was fine, he was still human. Relief washed over him as he dropped his arms and relaxed his shoulders.

That's when he closed his eyes and felt the warmth of the light as it traveled from his brow to his chin. He had just survived the worst night of his life, and soon he would have to travel through the forest. A place filled with monsters beyond imagination, but for now, he could relax in the light. At least, he wished he could.

Duck.

"What?" Tye opened his eyes and saw a huge fist coming towards his face. As it plowed into him, Tye could feel the fist break his nose. Tye fell back stunned.

As Tye tried to regain his bearings he was thrown easily ten yards away into an oak tree. Luckily, he was thrown far enough for the attacker not to instantly attack again. This gave Tye enough time to stand up and take in his surroundings.

That's when he saw the attacker, and he remembered Olivia's words. Gerald's assault had begun.
