I stopped the car in front of the cemetery, and waited for Grai to get this over with.
I tried to light my cigarette, but it didn't seem to catch fire. I grunted, and tried again, only to get the same result. A finger came in front of my cigar, the end of the finger on fire. The end lit up, and Grai moved back, and extinguished the flame on his finger.
"How long do you think I'm going to be there?" He asked.
I shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe one or two hours?" I guessed.
He rolled his eyes, and went inside. I noticed a familiar car just a couple metres away from me as he took his time. I don't know if I was supposed to be surprised or not by the fact that it was Oni at the wheel, but I wasn't. But what did surprise me was that he recognized who I was, even though I had a hoodie over my face.
I threw my cigarette on the ground and grabbed Grai from the collar. "H-hey!" He yelled. He tried to break free from my grasp, but he failed. "What in Delta are you doing?!"
"We're leaving." I said. "Now."
That got him going. He ran to the driver's seat as I sat in the passenger's seat. He started the car and drove as fast as he could to Solstace house. We stopped right in front of the porch, and grabbed everything we could.
"Do you even remember where he's located?" He asked me. I nodded, not bothering to look at him.
"I think he's right around the corner, if I remember correctly." I put on my mask and looked at him. Unlike mine, being a traditional mask, Grai wore a black surgical mask. He put on his hoodie and looked at me, confused.
"What?" He asked me. I blinked.
"You look weird." I bluntly replied. He scoffed and grabbed his knife and gun.
"We're supposed to catch him, not kill him." He ignored me, and took out a grenade from my bag. My eyes widened when I saw that in his hands.
"What did I tell you?!" I yelled at him. He rolled his eyes.
"Relax, it's not for him." He told me. "I'm going to throw it in here once we leave."
I cocked my head, puzzled. "Why would you do that?"
"You'll see." I rolled my eyes.
I grabbed my bag and walked out the door. "Don't take too long."
He shrugged, and headed upstairs. I stood ten feet from the house and waited for Grai. He burst through the door and ran right past me, grabbing my arm as he did. "We gotta go." He said.
"Yeah no shit!" I said as I caught up with him. We ran as the house exploded behind us.
"You better know what you're doing, Grai." I said as we ran. "Because I'm not dragging your body back to Drakon."
We continued to run until we stopped in front of a small cottage, right in front of a forest. "There." I said, pointing at a boy around Oni's age, kicking the ground for some reason. Judging from his broken nose, he got into a big fight not a few days ago.
"Did you do that to him?" I asked my cousin. He shrugged, and nodded. I slapped my forehead. "And what exactly made you do that?"
"He was bothering me, so I punched him." He said, treating like it was no big deal at all.
I shook my head in disapproval. "You're just like your brother."
He growled at me, but continued to watch him. "He's going inside." He informed, pointing at the boy heading into the cottage.
"Pass me the rope." I ordered. He took out a long metal wire covered in yarn and passed it to me.
"Here." He said. "Don't-." I threw the rope around his neck and pulled, causing him to fall. "Miss." He finished.
"Help me out here, would you?" I asked him. He scowled at me, and pulled at the rope so hard I fell down. "Are you nuts?!" I whisper-yelled at him.
He shrugged. "You asked for me to help, so I helped."
I rolled my eyes in annoyance. I turned to see what happened to the boy, only to find the rope laying there, accompanied with a trail of fresh blood. I followed the trail to the street. "He doesn't care if he lives, right?" Grai asked, shattering the silence that stood for so long. I shook my head. He nodded, understanding the situation. "Last one to find him has to carry his corpse back!" He yelled, and ran. I shook my head in disapproval, and chased after him.
