Chapter 28 - Chapter 25- The Loser Committee

1,802 Words

Point of View (Jenna)

Mordecai and I went to bed, having to sneak in since Leah and Azariah were asleep. I laid down in my bed, even though I didn't want to and tried to go to sleep. In the end, I couldn't and I spent the whole night just thinking over what I'd say if Mordecai asked me out again. Except, he might not even ask me out ever again since he's probably embarrassed. Ugh, whatever. Anyway, I got dressed for school and we started making our way there as soon as everyone else was ready. But then Ethan started walked towards us and I couldn't help but gag in my mouth a little. I glared at him until he asked me, "How's it going?" Thats when I glared at him even more. "Are you mad that I didn't come say hi? Is that what's happening here?"

I shook my head, "I could care less what you do with your free time. I'm mad because you stole my best friend, who's gay, by the way."

"Jenna, I'm pansexual," Leah answered.

"If you were pansexual, we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place," I responded, growling as Mordecai pushed my wheelchair.

"Fine, Jenna, then I'm questioning. Ok?" Leah asked, getting kind of mad for some reason. She's never gotten mad at me before... so why is she now?

"I'm not letting it go, though. I don't like him and there's no way that he could possibly prove himself. I'd rather you date Hosea or something."

"But you're not my mom, Jenna," Leah replied. By then, we were at the school and they all walked inside. I rolled inside, I guess.

Then Alexa walked up to me and she smiled really wide, "You're ok."

I nodded slowly, "Ya... I am. I never die, Alexa."

"So... you have a wheelchair now. Looks like Hosea ended up being the last angel you'll ever have the privelage to beat up."

"Oh, trust me, I'll figure out someway to hurt someone. There's no injury, mental or nah, that can stop me from fighting."

"Ah, I'm so glad you're back!"

I laughed, "So does this mean your dark heart is reborn?"

She shook her head, "Nope, it's just been a lot better."

"Oh, so you're actually taking the Leah thing pretty well, huh?"

She laughed nervously, blushing, "What? What do you mean?"

"So you haven't. I'm glad you're still doing ok."

She slowly nodded, "Ya, I guess it's been nice not having to worry about scaring people off, you know? I've figured some stuff out."

"Nice. You wanna sit in my wheelchair with me. Mordecai can push us to class."

"I probably shouldn't..."

"No, it's fine. I like pushing the wheelchair," Mordecai replied.

I laughed, "He really likes the turns." Alexa slightly laughed and sat down next to me in the wheelchair. Until school started, we kind of just ran around the hallways. Oh, and Azariah joined us. I'm not sure why she didn't hang out with Hosea. I guess it was because she'd been keeping Mordecai company while I was gone. I don't know, but I'll figure it out soon enough. I just have to remember how to use my freaking power already. Anyway, we got to class and I sat with next to Mordecai and Alexa, Azariah sitting at a desk with Mordecai.

Then, during second block, Alexa whispered, "I miss her."

"What?" I whispered back, turning away from the teacher.

"I know that I'm supposed to be all independent or whatever, but before she left, I was better."

I shook my head, "No, you weren't, Alexa. You were shy and you never made any other friends."

"I still haven't."

"Because you're still not ready. You don't have to be that social yet," I replied. Then I laughed, "You're not a butterfly yet."

"I guess. Thanks, Jenna. How'd you get to be so smart?"

I shrugged my shoulders, "I don't know. I guess I just kind of understand what you're going through. I mean, I wasn't always this amazingly nice."

She nodded, "That's true. I'm glad you've got Mordecai. He's like your best friend ever."

"Ya... I mean, I guess. We just understand each other, I guess. I-I mean, ya..."

Then the teacher noticed we were talking and said, "Jenna, Alexa, stop talking!"

Time Skip

Alexa fell asleep pretty quickly once we got to 10th block. In 10th block, coincidentally, Diya sat next to Alexa. She even took the fall for Alexa after the teacher was about to yell at Alexa. I guess they'd been hanging out lately and she even asked to trade classes with someone else, but she hadn't sat next to her today because of me. Then the intercom came on and Diya woke Alexa up. "What's going on?" I asked.

Diya whispered, "School dance committee. They're announcing the members."

"Well, I hope I don't have to be on it," I commented, not really listening to the announcement.

Then I heard the words, "...Diya, Azariah, Olly, Hosea, Fatima, Alexa, Allison, Jessica, and Ethan..." on the intercom and I sighed, realizing I didn't have to go.

Diya raised her hand, "Ma'am, what about people who have to stay after school? Don't I have to go to the committee?" I smiled, realizing she was trying to get out of doing her homework.

"You'll have to do your work another day. Alexa, however, has to stay after. I'd be good, though, because you can only do so much in one day. You might have to do it over the weekend," the teacher replied. Then the teacher saw that the rest of the students were holding back laughs, "What are you all doing? School is over!"

"Bye, Alexa," Diya said, "I'll meet you out front."

I started to try to navigate my way out the door, but then the teacher said, "Where are you going? You've been gone for who knows how long and you still haven't gotten caught up."

"But I learned stuff while I was taking that nap," I replied, then I got emotional, "I've learned the meaning of life."

She glared at me, making me too scared to do anything except for sit down, "Right. Anyway, you have about 20 worksheets to get done."

"That's not too bad," I replied, realizing I'd get done immediately.

Alexa frowned, shaking her head, "Jenna, we have a packet every unit we do."

"I don't get it."

"A packet takes us two weeks to get through," she replied as the teacher plopped down a tall stack of papers, "They're each 15 pages long, front and back."

I buried my head in my arms, "I'm dead now, aren't I?"

Point of View Change (Diya)

I turned left out of the classroom and went to the gym. When I went inside, I realized that everyone else was already there. I shrugged my shoulders and made my way over to Ethan and Olly since they were the only ones there that didn't look like they wanted to be there. I'd probably get all mad at Ethan because of the Alexa thing. I guess I get how it's not really his fault, I just don't like that ended up hurting Alexa. But then I heard someone exclaim, "Diya! Come meet my friends!" I groaned and then turned around, following her. I took one glance and decided that they were the exact opposite type of person that I'd hang out with.

Then one of the teachers yelled out, "The meeting is starting!" I sat down, but this girl bumped into me.

"What the heck?!" she yelled, glaring at me.

I looked up to see Allison, "Oh, it's you," I replied, growling.

"What does that mean?" she asked, looking me up and down.

I laughed, "It means that I'll beat you up if you make me mad."

"Just stay out of my way."

Then Jessica walked up to us, panicking, "No, no, stop! Chill out, guys... come on."

I whispered to Allison, "Tell your girlfriend to shut up. Oh wait, I guess you haven't got the guts to do it yet."

"Shut... up," she growled back. Then Jessica put her hand on Allison's shoulder. Allison flinched, stepping away, "Don't touch me." She walked away into the hallway.

"I-" Jessica started, her face at a loss for words.

Then Fatima started talking, "I ended up getting voted as the leader for the school dance. We need to decide on a theme. So, does anyone have a suggestion?"

I raised my hand, smiling, "Betrayal."

"That's so hilarious, Diya," she replied in a sarcastic voice.

I looked over to see Azariah say, "Happily Ever After!"

"YES! Things like that!" she exclaimed, pointing at Azariah, "Any other suggestions? We can just vote."

"Under the Sea," Jessica replied quietly.

"I'm still accepting suggestions," she replied, but then she rolled her eyes and said, "Let's just vote. Who wants Under the Sea?" I did not vote. I decided I wouldn't vote at all. "Now who wants Happily Ever After?" I opened my eyes and realized she was glaring at me.

"What?" I asked, "What'd I do?"

She kept glaring, "You didn't vote, so I got three and three."

"It's not my fault Allison left."

"Ummm... it kind of was, though. I guess we could just do half and half," she replied, shrugging her shoulders.

"Wouldn't that be titanic, though?" I asked, laughing.

Then Azariah broke in, "That wouldn't be happily ever after, though."

"Nope, not going with that. I meant The Little Mermaid. Is everyone in agreement?" Fatima asked and so we all raised our hands, "Ok, it's settled. The Little Mermaid school dance. Everyone come back later with a decoration to contribute!"

Point of View Change (Jessica)

I walked into the hallway, trying to find her. I can't lose her too. "Allison?" I called out, "I'm sorry."

"It's fine," she replied, coming out of this dark hallway with her hands in her pockets.

I laughed to myself, "You're so edgy..." She frowned, "I love it."

"Oh... nice... Look, I'm into you," she said, now standing in front of me, "I know that we both still have dark hearts, but... you're the only one who's never made me feel like a piece of garbage." I looked at the ground for a second, but then I looked back up at her and put my arm around her neck. I guess she isn't as tall as I thought. I closed my eyes and... kissed her? I don't know. She pulled away, "Wait a minute... what?"

I laughed awkwardly, "What?"

"How are you such a good kisser?"

I laughed, shrugging my shoulders, "I don't know. Maybe it's just the person I'm kissing."

"So... are we dating?" she asked. I frowned, at a loss for words. The last person I dated thought she knew she was the one. They always think that they'll be the only one, but they can't trust me... can they, Cecilia?

"I don't deserve you," I replied, looking at the ground, "You shouldn't have to deal with me."

She put her hand on my chin, lifting up my face, "But you get me... and I want to." She leaned in for another kiss and I kissed her back.
