His walk trough the city gave him a sour face like it usually does, slaves, homeless people and stray cats all begging with their eyes were a common sight in the town of Dalelry, it was not a big town but it had walls, a garrison and a market so it was classified as a "safe" town.
Safe towns refer to towns which can protect itself from the many dangers that lurk outside the city walls such as orcs, giant beasts, beast men etc, safe to say that the outside was not a friendly place and the average person rarely stepped a foot outside the city walls unless they had a team of mercenaries, guards or magic skilled people but those costs a lot of money!
Kajus finally wiped the frown upside down when he arrived outside of the Condottiere's
It was a large building at the south corner of the town, close to the south gate. Behind the big building was a plot of green grass and a small hill even further was the towns walls that were manned 24/7, to his left besides the building on the walls Kajus could see a guard sleeping with a bottle of wine in his hand and the other guard next to him sitting down masturbating. Kajus was completely blown away by this thinking about if the orcs came only a drunkard and a wanker would be left to alert the garrison. He had chills running down his spine thinking about it.
He regained his focus and his nervousness and walked into the clans house, there was a guard inside that stopped him, the guard unsheathed his sword and pointed it towards Kajus.
"state you business!"
Kajus froze, standing there menacingly, close to wetting his pants he crammed out the words " new recruit"
his sweat pouring down. Kajus was well versed with swords and practiced a lot, his father was a ex military officer so he got used to weapons in his early days but he has never faced someone with a sword before.
The guard looked suspiciously at him and asked "age?"
"18!"
The guard looked genuinely surprised but then sheathed his sword and laughed, he walked back to his post and grabbed a jug of ale to sip on.
Kajus stood there still as a mountain trying to calm his nerves, to outsiders he looked ominous and scary standing there tall and still, it looks like he is in complete control and like he is trying not to get mad!
After 10 seconds Kajus started moving to the counter not really knowing how to sign up for the clan, he felt a little lost but he was determined to join this clan!
When he reached the counter he saw a woman sitting there in the chair doing paper works the woman looked pretty he thought, she had blonde hair to her shoulders with a fancy dress on, her eyes looked nonchalant and carefree, her face was pretty and well kept, she obviously uses beauty products he thought.
He cleared his throat and the girl at the counter put up her head and looked at Kajus with a smile she asked " Hi, I heard you wanted to enter our clan? My name is Lionette"
Kajus smiled back and nodded she put her head back down and started doing some paperwork, after a minute she reached out her hand with a small card and said
" just go through the backdoor and look for a big scary guy called Geoff he will test you"
with a smile she looked at the back door as to guide Kajus.
He smiled and said thank you
He slowly walked to the backdoor, his legs already felt like mush talking to Lionette so he couldn't walk fast.
When he got to the yard behind the building he saw a group of people doing exercises and to the right he saw 2 people one was a smaller person it looked like a woman and she was being questioned by a tall man, taller then Kajus with a big scar across his face,
'That must be Geoff and another person joining the clan!'
as he walked towards Geoff and the new recruit Geoff noticed him and gave a glare, that glare made Kajus's walking speed half and his stomach create a big lump, when he arrived he reported to Geoff like he was a private addressing a Lieutenant.
"Kajus reporting in sir" Kajus felt that this guy deserved respect the way he stood and glared screamed battle experience
Geoff answers " at ease, what's your name?" he said in a firm but gentle tone.
"Kajus Bove, sir"
"are you good with any weapons?"
"yes sir i know many weapons my father was-"
Kajus got cut off mid sentence
" I don't want your life story, what weapons are you proficient with?" he asked with a more annoyed tone this time.
"yes sir! Sword, Halberd and bow sir!"
"very good, pick up a bow from the rack next to us and let's test your skills"
Kajus was naturally very nervous and the lump in his stomach hasn't gone away but the more he spoke to people the more felt at ease.
