Exactly after one hour and forty-five minutes, Byeon Da-Jung reached Woo-Jin's hometown. Seeing that, Woo-Jin's hometown was now located in the richest city of the entire country, Da-Jung was awestruck by it.
The life which even she had before hitting rock bottom, was also nothing compared to this. Eight years back, Da-Jung disliked traveling to his hometown because he lived in a very poor province. And she always wanted his parents to come over to the city to stay.
But now that she saw the city where Woo-Jin's home was located, she couldn't do anything but just stare at it being petrified.
Heck! She didn't even have a car of her own. The cars which she had eight years before were all sold to clear out her debt. But no matter what she did, her debt was still not cleared.
"Thank you very much! Here is your pay!" She handed the money to the cab driver and exited from the cab holding the bag of fruits and few flower bouquets. She had been meeting her in-laws after a long time and she couldn't go empty-handed.
Hah! Life was so unfair!
Da-Jung looked at the location in her phone to check if she had come at the right place. Indeed, she had come at the right place. These huge mansions were just making her awestruck. And above all that, she had dressed so plainly that she felt inferior.
"Is it to the right or left?" As she looked at the red mark in her map, she couldn't make out if the house was on the right or the left. She zoomed in on the map, but all she could see the marker pointing in the centre.
"To the right!" Just as she was about to call Woo-Jin's father, she heard some familiar voice behind her.
Da-Jung turned around. She was surprised to see Woo-Jin here. "What are you doing here?" Just by seeing him, it felt like she had completely lost her soul.
Woo-Jin's parents had invited him today. No wonder it was for this reason. They wanted to see him and Da-Jung together. He felt it very tricky that his father had commanded him to come, sternly.
"Shouldn't I be asking that question to you, Miss Byeon? What. Are. You. Doing. Here?"
"Your father invited me. I couldn't happen to decline his invitation so, I came." Da-Jung could not hide the truth and she couldn't also create any misunderstandings so, she said clearly.
Woo-Jin nodded in approval and noticed the heavy bag which was in her hand.
"Give it to me, I will carry it." However, as he stretched out his hand to take it, Da-Jung pulled her hand away. "It is fine, Mr. Yang!" She said coldly and walked inside the house.
Just upon seeing the fascinating view, Da-Jung knew that she was going to be astounded when she would witness the inner view and yes, she was! The house was really beautiful! No, you couldn't refer it to a house, it was a mansion.
Even if she was rich, she hadn't witnessed such a beautiful house in her life before.
Woo-Jin noticed her reaction and smirked. For once in a while, he felt like he had shown her what an actual rich life was. When he saw his parents approaching, he elbowed her and Da-Jung looked at him with a frown, she then noticed the couple who were approaching her while being plainly dressed and she immediately greeted them.
"Hello, Father-in-law! Hello, Mother-in-law!" She bowed to them and handed them the flowers. "It was not good for me to come empty-handed so, I bought these." She smiled and the servants took the flowers and the bag of fruits from her hand.
Seeing the couple who were still dressed plainly even after having such an extraordinary life, she was tender-hearted. She immediately walked towards Woo-Jin's mother and held her by her arm. "How have you been, mother-in-law? It really has been a long time since I last saw you both." She smiled while speaking to her.
Woo-Jin's mother was still the same, a soft-hearted woman who had supported Da-Jung many a times. Now that she saw his mother again, tears started to form in her eyes. It really had been a long time and she actually missed her in-laws too.
Even if Da-Jung was divorced, she regretted to not have been in touch with her mother-in-law and father-in-law. It wasn't their fault that she had ended up like this. It was her and Woo-Jin's fault.
Her chest tightened upon seeing Woo-Jin's mother's frail condition. Four years and she was no longer the healthy-looking person anymore.
Somehow, Da-Jung couldn't stop her tears and a small droplet ended down her cheeks and it was caught by Woo-Jin's mother. "Omo! Are you crying? Aigoo! Why are you crying, my dear?"
Da-Jung instantly shook her head and wiped her eyes. She took a glance at Woo-Jin and noticed him looking back at her. She immediately glanced away and shook her head. "I wasn't crying, mother-in-law!" She let out a stiff laugh and continued "Just something went in my eye."
Woo-Jin's mother understood her and didn't continue with the matter. She took Da-Jung inside her room.
Taking out a box from inside one of the drawers, she handed it to Da-Jung. "You know... this box... it has been passed on from generations in our Yang family. It was given to me by my husband's mother and I should have refused to take it with me when you came to give this to me after the divorce but I just couldn't...
I thought about it every time. And even now also, I thought about it that, if, I was to meet you, I would give it back to you! After all, you were the daughter-in-law of Yang family. Even if you are not, I would like to give this to you."
Da-Jung looked at the box which was in her hand. It was the same box which she received on her wedding day from mother-in-law. She really was very happy to receive such a beautiful gift and she had loved it so much that she was reluctant to give it back. But since, it had been passed on from generations, she had to give the box. She couldn't keep it for herself.
Now that, the box was again in her hand, she looked at Woo-Jin's mother with surprise. She had a deniable look on her face. "I can't take this, mother-in-law. It will go to the next person whom Woo-Jin will marry. So, please..."
"I only want to give this to you! Even if Woo-Jin was to marry someone else, only you will be the one whom I will consider as my daughter-in-law!"
Hearing that, moved Da-Jung's heart and she hugged her. "I'm sorry! You had high hopes with me but I couldn't fulfill them." And hopelessly, the tears rolled down her cheek and Da-Jung cried while hugging her.
Woo-Jin was coming to invite these two for dinner and he couldn't help but hear their conversation. He smiled when he realized that Da-Jung still had that respect for his mother which she had before. He was impressed by her and once again, he felt his heart beat louder, louder than a drum.
