As he walked into the restaurant Jason couldn't help but have an overwhelming feeling of anxiety. The association had called Jason for a meeting about his recent job performance. Jason knew what performance they were referring to.
A few days before he had tried to interfere in a bank robbery, in addition to the fact that normal bank robberies were supposed to be handled by at least level fifty hero's, this bank robbery was very high level and dangerous due to it being headed by a level seventy-six villain named The Crustacean. Now that we know these facts let's go over Jason's hero stats.
Name: Jason Henning
Age: 22
Hero Name: The Henn
Power: None
Level: 12
Slogan: I need a slogan?
As you can clearly see he shouldn't have even thought about going near this robbery; However on that day he just happened to be depositing money, money that he got working as a hero, at the bank at which the robbery was occurring. So, of course, he got cocky having just been paid as a hero, and he tried to fight the seven-foot-two crab man.
He left the bank with three broken ribs, and a woman who was in the bank suffered a broken leg during the fight. She was also now sitting across the table from him at the restaurant.
Between the glare the woman was giving him, and the pressure from the rest of the people in the restaurant Jason almost didn't notice her lawyer, who was sitting next to her, say the words he feared most.
"MR. Henning, MRS. Darlington is suing you for five hundred thousand dollars."
"What! I don't have that kind of money!" Jason yelled standing up and slamming his hands on the table.
"MR. Henning, calm down," The association employee sitting next to Jason hissed. Jason then looked around the restaurant and noticed that everyone had gone quiet. Realizing the embarrassing actions he awkwardly sat back down.
After regaining his composure the association employee who Jason only knew as Will said, "Ma'am please reconsider, Jason was just trying to do his job. He is part of the hero association after all."
"You're right he is part of the hero association," MRS. Darlington's face softened as she looked down at her lap, only to become a sinister smile, "then I ask that the hero association fire him."
"Wait a min..."
"Don't say another word unless you want, my husband, your chairman to get involved."
Jason looked to his side and saw the pale and hard face of Will looking back at him with sorrowful eyes. Before Will could say anything Jason noticed the waiter passing by and stood up.
"Hey, buddy."
"Yes sir."
"Where's the can?"
"Um, down that hall to the left," the waiter said pointing down the hallway.
Jason quickly walked towards the bathroom ignoring the painful glances from the table he had left behind. After he slammed the bathroom door closed he did something he hadn't done since he got dumped by his girlfriend a week before.
"Mom... I... I don't know what to do," he said over the phone while sobbing.
"What happened my little Spartan."
Jason then explained the story to his mother.
"Well that's no good," his mother said in voice that sounded like it was meant to sooth an infant, "ooh, I have an Idea..."
"Re... really?" Jason said wiping away his tears with his free left hand.
"Yep, listen up, you are going to go out there and tell them you quit the association."
"But..."
"No... no buts. If they don't want you there then you shouldn't want to be there."
"Alright mom, I'll quit. Bye," Jason hung up immediately and then pressed his back against the bathroom wall and slid down in order to sit on the floor. "All I wanted to do was save people," after saying this he quickly stood up and marched to the sink and stared at himself in the rectangular mirror above it, he closed his eyes, "I wish I could save people."
Suddenly, he felt a breeze. He opened his eyes and saw that he was still in... the bathroom. "What did I expect I'm not some storybook hero, I'm not even a regular hero," Jason walked over to the bathroom door, grabbed the handle and closed his eyes. He took a deep breath and blew it out, "guess I'm moving back in with mom," he opened the door and then his eyes, only to meet a blinding light that forced him to close them again.
Using his hand as shade Jason cautiously opened his eyes, yet he couldn't really tell if he had because what he was seeing couldn't possibly be real. Instead of a restaurant full of glaring eyes, he found himself standing in the middle of a cornfield. He spun in a full circle unsure whether he was confused, happy, or scared. Maybe it was all of them.
After a quick scan of his surroundings he saw a woman who seemed to be picking the corn a few hundred feet in front of him, a forest to his left, a road behind him, and a large house to his right. At first Jason thought about speaking to the woman, but thought it would be impolite for him to interrupt her work.
So, fearing he would get lost in the woods, and realizing that he didn't know where the road would lead, he decided to go towards the large house. He knocked on the door of the house. feeling uncomfortable, Jason began rocking back and forth, then he knocked again.
"Yes." Jason jumped slightly at the voice that originated only a few feet behind him. It was the woman from the cornfield. Now that she was closer to him he could see her features much more clearly.
She was a brown haired girl with tan white skin, most likely from working outdoors, he decided. However, her most noticeable feature, at least to Jason, was her eyes. They were a deep foggy blue, they reminded him of the emptiness of the middle of the ocean.
After calming down he regained his ability to speak, "Yes, um, I was just looking to ask someone where this might be."
"What do you mean."
"I want to know where I am on a map."
"I see," the woman responded, "I take it you're a traveler."
"Guess you could call me that."
"So, stranger what should I be calling you."
"Um, you can call me... Henn," despite her looks she was still a stranger to Jason, and for now he would like to keep it that way.
"Okay, Henn, if you travel to the right on that road over there the town of Kinterham should be just a two maybe three hour walk."
"Thank you..." he paused.
"Jess," she answered.
"Well then Jess I'm off," Jason said as he took a step. Unfortunately, he was only two steps away when he heard a scraping sound, and turned around only to see a wooden plank coming straight at his face.
