I didn't know how but Curtis had managed to get top screen even with me getting into the house first. I sunk into Curtis's bean chair a little further as we played away our worries. Then Curtis's dad came in.
"What's up Mr. Delaney?" I glanced at him as he entered the room.
"Jason," Mr. Delaney put on a serious face, "Your folks want you to come home."
"Alright," I tried for a combo move on the game, "Just let me finish this round."
"No Jason," Mr. Delaney snapped, "Your mother said she wanted you home now."
Curtis paused the game. He didn't want to get in between a fight between me, and my parents. We were close so when we did fight, it was bad. I dropped the controller on the bed, and stood up.
"Guess it's time for me to go home," I shrugged as I looked at Curtis.
"I'd say see you later," Curtis fiddled with his controller making it go up, and down the pause screen quickly, "But I'm headed to my new school tomorrow."
I felt a slight twinge in my chest. It wasn't sadness or anything like that. It was anger that made my heartbeat uptick a little. It pissed me off to see Curtis looking so defeated. I went out the door, and down the stairs.
I walked out the front door only stopping to open it, and close it. I walked down the cement path to the street, and continued on down the street. Further away from the shops, and the beaches that were a twenty minute walk behind them. My family didn't have as much money as Curtis's. Our house was about a forty minute walk away from the beach which was still pretty close, but it was a definite step down from the luxury house Curtis's family owned.
It made me a little jealous to be honest. I mean they had a whole room just for games, and the big football TV. I shook off the envy of the game room as I walked. I had worse problems to deal with. Lucky for me my problems hadn't noticed that I'd noticed them yet.
