Chapter 18 - Advanced moves

On Saturday, Ben was the whole day with his tracer friends. It became very fascinating to do Parkour. In the beginning, Ben could only strengthen his body and do the basic moves, but now he was taught the advanced moves. With his high learning capability thanks to the skill, Ben learned all the moves at a shocking rate.

These moves were categorized in Vaults, Landings, Bar techniques, Wall techniques, and Combinations.

Steven: "The speed vault is perfect to quickly overpass a belly-high obstacle.

You have to run toward the obstacle, launch off of the leg on the same side as the hand placed on the obstacle, brush hand on the object just enough to launch yourself forward over the obstacle, and come out in a one-footed run, landing on the leg you used to launch over."

The training was still a bit painful as small mistakes were common in Parkour.

Luke began to like Ben, but he still picked on him: "How about reciting the name and the use of each move you learned today? This will help you memorize it!"

Everyone understood that learning the moves didn't mean to be able to recite them one the first day of learning, but they said nothing as it wasn't a bad way to begin memorizing.

For Ben, it was just a painless exercise, he already learned the name, the description, the technique, and the warnings and with his skill, he memorized it at home.

"Firstly, the Speed Vault, it is used to quickly overpass an obstacle, such as a low wall, railing or barrier, while preserving forward momentum for additional movements such as a roll or an underbar.

The Lazy Vault is used for moving over an obstacle sideways or diagonally while still running or moving forwards.

The Thief Vault is a slightly modified movement of the Lazy Vault and the Dash Vault. It is used as a slightly faster alternative to the Lazy Vault.

The Dash Vault is done when a practitioner jumps over an obstacle feet first then leads the body away from the object with the hands.

The Kong Vault is a movement used for moving over an object and gaining distance. Kongs are useful for moving over long objects, such as large barriers.

The Kash Vault is a vault consisting of a combination of the Kong Vault and Dash Vault. The Kash Vault is executed similarly to a Kong Vault, but during the middle of the vault, the traceur swings his/her legs through their arms instead of going straight over.

Turn vault is a jump over an object, which places the tracer on the opposite side of the object in the cat position ready to dismount to the next obstacle or ground.

Secondly, The Cat Leap is used to land on a vertical object, such as a ledge, a wall, or a fence.

The landing of a crane involves the practitioner landing with his or her leg on top of the object, with the toe of the other foot perpendicularly touching the side of that object.

The Safety Tap is a type of landing, it is used for smaller drops and when rolling is not possible. It is performed by rolling from one shoulder to the opposite hip.

Quadrupedal landing is the act of landing on all four limbs to dampen a drop as much as possible.

Thirdly, the Lache is a move used to swing off of a bar or branch. After swinging the traceur can grab onto another bar or branch, or land in a precision, crane, or cat.

The Underbar is a Parkour movement where one swings one's body under a bar in a fluid manner.

The bar kip is a move used to go from a hanging position to a cast position with the bar at the waist.

Fourthly, A Climb Up is a movement used to go from a hanging position to the top of a wall. It is similar to a muscle-up, but also using the feet to push off with.

The Cat Leap is a technique used to land on a vertical object, such as a ledge, a wall, or a fence.

The wall-run is used to gain height to jump over tall obstacles or simply run horizontally on a wall.

A Tic Tac consists of pushing off of a wall, similar to a wall run, but moving across the wall rather than up it. It is usually used to get over an obstacle next to a wall.

Lastly, the Wall Pop is a vault used to get over small ledges. It is similar to a wall run but without the need for a climb up.

A Cat to cat is a leap from a cat position into another cat on an opposing wall.

A Double Kong is a type of vault. It is similar to a regular Kong, but is used to get over two obstacles or one long obstacle."

Everyone was shocked by Ben's monotone voice reciting, they knew that Ben was probably not a bad student, but the fact that Ben was talented in Parkour and in memorizing was truly surprising.

Going home, Ben was worried. Before going he disinfected his wounds, applied a plaster on each of them, and changed his clothes, but he still looked quite beaten up with his scratches and his bumps on his whole body. If he went now home, he would worry his parents to death. He won't be able to go Sunday again to parkour.

´What should I do? Even I didn't think I would end in this state. It was like a rush of ecstasy, the more I succeeded the more I wanted to continue. So what should I do? I can lie to my parents, saying I was beaten up on the dark street, but this excuse will just work one time. Why not sleep at Alex's house? No, if I sleep at his house, his mother could call my parents and inform then of my injuries. Jonas's house would be the best case, our parents never interacted much and he should just be a few stations away from the university.´
