Opening her eyes again, she took sight of the marble ceiling and realized that she was in an unfamiliar place. She was absentmindedly staring at an empty space when a furry figure blocked her line of sight.
"Bob, so I am not yet dead? Hmm," she stated and smiled disappointingly, which bewildered Bob and disturbed him without him noticing.
"If I had left you there to die, would it be less disappointing?" he snapped at her and quickly left, it was as if he was hurt by her statement. 'What happened to him? Why is he so emotional?' shrugging the thought of her mind, Suyi then made the bed and did her routines.
"Bob, where are we?" she asked immediately after she went out of the bedroom. Bob just scoffed and mumbled sarcastically that they are currently in the Afterlife.
Suyi chuckled and made her way to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. "Did you save me from that beast?" she asked while she chopped ingredients for their meal. Although they are now souls or undead beings, they still feel human emotions like starving, sadness, etc.
"I don't know, maybe the beast spared you"
"Seriously Bob, did you? Whether you did it or not, I am still thankful," she said as she turned her head towards him and smiled brightly, she was not yet done with her mission, and it was not yet time for her soul to vanish.
"Whatever tss" he put his head on his front paw and turned his back on her before closing his eyes to take a nap. Secretly feeling a little fidgety after being acknowledged, if Suyi knew how he feels, she would have laughed at him. After preparing a full course meal for both of them, Suyi prepped the table and called Bob to eat.
"Hey Bob, what's your real name? Why are you in your beast form?" Suyi suddenly asked and glanced at him from her peripheral vision. Bob ignored her for a couple of seconds, then he suddenly vanished after stopping on his tracks and stating he had something to do "I have to go" leaving Suyi all alone.
…
Weeks have passed since Bob left her, although the man annoys her, his presence was somewhat comfortable to have around in this foreign place. When Bob left she met Paisley and told her what happened to her at the forest, the woman was wearing purple lipstick while madly laughing her ass off at Suyi's unfortunate incident. She could only sulk and accept the fact that she is indeed very unlucky.
After Paisley settled down, she told Suyi that, for her not to attract a high leveled beast, she had to go to the forest and farm (kill or fight beast) at a specific time and place. She then nodded then left to go see if there are tasks that could match her level, luckily she managed to get one that is just simply collecting herbs and fighting bug type beasts. The very sight of bugs disgusts her that she could sometimes feel her skin crawl, especially now that their sizes are a few times bigger than how they look whilst she was still in the human realms.
Looking at the peaceful scenery before her, Suyi could only lightly breathe and enjoy the soft wind. Weirdly enough although she was now a transparent soul, she could still feel things that humans and creatures that had flesh could feel. She could breathe and do things that humans can. It was said that if she goes down to the Human Realms, no one will be able to tell that she was there except those who had special abilities like ghost fighters, masters of arts, etc. She could even kill a person there without being detected by normal humans.
Though the idea of going back excites her, knowing what happened to her was more important than temporary happiness she will feel down there.
Suddenly remembering what was written in that book, Suyi's figure slightly faltered, her eyes shaking and her positive energy quickly changing. Inside the book were 10 different names and identities, different lifestyles, races, and personalities, yet all of them died due to unknown reasons at the age of 25 on the same day, different year but exactly the same time.
This had raised suspicion and a strong desire for her to know what caused this, is there a curse on her soul? Or she was just destined to have a short lifespan on all of her lifetimes, isn't that just so unfair on her part? The twenties are the time of our lives where we discover things, learn, grow, and enjoy life?
Suyi sat at the trunk of the tree and looked at her palm intently, she was feeling lost and aggrieved, had she made a grave mistake that she had to die that way? The more that everyone hides it from her, the greater the greed that she feels to seek for the truth.
"You look stupid" a familiar voice sounded, the voice that she had once loved and hated at the same time. Looking up to the direction of where the voice came from, Suyi found a man with brown curly locks, hazel eyes, and thick bushy brows that made his features more attractive.
"Zed?" Suyi uttered, a little breathless and hoarse from being silent for a few hoarse did that to her voice. The man in front of her gave her a small awkward smile, his hands brushed through his locks. She quickly recognized that it was his habit every time he felt anxious or awkward. Finding his actions adorable, Suyi finally broke into a smile and lightly giggled, the man then sighed a breath of relief while rubbing his palm at the sides of his thigh.
"Do you mind if I take a sit?" he asked and deliberately pointed at the log of the tree across her, she then shrugged and told her it was fine.
"Wow, so we're dead, hah," he said, Suyi then snorted and laughed, he was still the awkward man she met before.
"Way to start a conversation. So where's your beloved Becca?" Suyi asked and glanced around. The man's face then turned sour as if he was displeased by the sound of that name.
"You were right, she was just a white lotus bitch. Hah! I don't even want to speak of such a despicable name! She killed me after I helped her get what she wanted and ran off marrying a much wealthy man! Slut!" his voice gradually turning cold the more she spoke about the woman. Suyi was shocked but she was not surprised, she had warned him a couple of times before that Becca was just using him, but he never listened, even threatening Suyi not to touch her. She rolled her eyes and joked at him which lightened the heavy atmosphere.
However, behind them was a huge pine tree and on one of its trunk is a man whose face turned dark, making the poor shadows behind him shiver, unwilling to be sensed and be the object of their master's frustration. The man then stared daggers at the guy who was giggling and joking with the gullible, stupid woman. His knuckles turned pale white and ordered one of the shadows to collect information about the man called Zed.
He then glanced at the back of the woman wearing a beautiful pastel blue dress, her long silky hair cascading down to her thin waist, her gorgeous smile made her cute little dimples show on her left cheek. As magnificent as it looks, he was not humored by the fact that the cause of such a pretty smile is a mere soul who was not fit to even clean her shoes.
Every minute that he stayed longer in there, watching them, the more his mood worsens. He can not let that man get close to her. His eyes flickered with dangerous killing intent and a ruthless smile found its way on his lips making his already handsome appearance appear more attractive, breathless.
